“They’re okay.” Why couldn’t Josh react the way she
expected? His amused tone confused her. She shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “I’ve
had better.”

He trailed the finger still wet from her mouth down the
column of her throat. She bent her head to give him room to explore. A long
moment passed before he hooked his finger around the collar of her shirt. Her
pulse raced. A tug and he exposed her upper chest. She froze in anticipation. He
bent closer and pressed an open-mouthed kiss to the swell of her breast. A soft
sigh escaped.

Lips brushing lightly against her achy flesh, he asked, “How
about that one?”

She swallowed hard. “Nothing special.”

He sighed but the way he licked his lips warned her he
wasn’t done with her yet. Excitement built within her. She silently berated
herself for the eagerness she couldn’t deny, but offered no resistance when he
lifted her arm.

He glided the tip of his forefinger from her wrist to the
edge of her sleeve. His barely there caress undid her. She squeezed her eyelids
shut on the sight, but not seeing his exploration didn’t dim its effect. The
soft scrape of his stubble over her open palm weakened her knees and the swirls
of his tongue over her skin fanned the desire raging through her.

“Better?”

“No.”

Her breathless answer brought another rumble of laughter
from his chest.

“You’re tough on a man’s pride, baby.”

“I’m just telling the truth.” She drew a deep breath into
her lungs, hoping to lessen the lust adding a husky edge to it. “Your kisses
are nice.” Another inhale filled her lungs with Josh’s rich signature. Quivers
danced along her inner walls. Her pent-up air escaped in a rush. “That’s it. Nice,
not spectacular.”

He dropped to his knees. She tensed. With her skirt pushed
up, he had a perfect view of her panties, blue to match his eyes. He didn’t
peek or try to touch her intimately. He lifted her calf and kissed his way up
to her knee, teasing the crease with quick flicks of his tongue before moving
higher.

Her heart knocked hard against her rib cage. He couldn’t
mean to kiss her…
there
. A fresh wave of arousal flowed. She inched her
bottom closer.

“What are…”

He nipped her sensitive flesh. She barely stopped her
answering moan from escaping.

“What are,” she dragged in a shaky breath, “you doing?”

“Trying to rebuild my self-esteem, kitten.” He raised his
head. With his heated eyes on her, he reached up and caressed her inner thigh. “I
can’t let you walk away from me unsatisfied. Now, can I?”

“You don’t have to…I mean, this isn’t…”

He brushed his knuckles against her dripping sex. Her
rebuttal turned into a groan. He fisted her panties. A rough tug and the thong
ripped, the sound of tearing cloth echoing in her ears along with her pounding
pulse.

He shoved her skirt up. With the loose material pooled
around her on the desk, he dropped his gaze to her sex.

“Fucking beautiful.”

The desire adding a low drawl to his voice fed hers. She
squirmed. A hand on her thigh stopped her restless writhing. He trailed his
fingers over her scorching skin, from her knee to her slickened cleft. She
panted.

He spread her lower lips and blew warm air on her sensitive
opening. Her head fell back on a moan. “This gorgeous sex is mine, Mira. You
know it. I know it.”

Before she could say anything, he lowered his head and licked
her in a slow, controlled swipe from the bottom of her cleft through her
drenched opening to her clit. Another pass and he dipped his tongue inside her
sheath. Her inner muscles tightened on the tip, but he didn’t linger there. He
flattened his tongue and dragged it over her swollen lips. Once at the top, he
circled the sensitive nub before capturing the bundle with his teeth. Nibbles to
the button sent tiny spasms through her core.

If he sucked, she’d explode. The release hovered so close
she could taste it. He didn’t give it to her, though. He eased away and pressed
a firm hand to her belly.

“I need more room if I’m going to kiss you properly. Lie
down, baby.”

Josh lying on a wooden floor. Open eyes, open mouth,
blood dripping off her claws.
No!

She shook her head and tried to close her thighs. She had to
protect him. It was selfish of her to take her pleasure from him when she’d
only end up pushing him away. His big shoulders stopped her. “Josh, wait. I—”

He rubbed his chin against her bare mound and her words got
lost on a surge of lust. The stubble on her sensitive cleft heightened the
pleasure. He raised his head, skin glistening with her arousal, and rested his
cheek on her thigh. Desire-ridden eyes met hers.

“Why, kitten?” He dipped his finger into her core, swirled
the tip and pulled it free. He used his wet digit to paint a swirling design
over her lower belly. “Do you want me to stop?”

She opened her mouth to say ‘yes’ but shook her head. Weak.
She was so weak.

Another lopsided smile tilted his mouth. He spread her legs
wider and replaced the caresses of his fingertips with licks of his wicked
tongue along her inner thighs. Each small flick brought him closer to her
dripping core.

His breath bathed her opening. He repeated his earlier teasing,
tracing her lower lips with the tip of his tongue. On the third pass, he pushed
his tongue inside her core. He curled the tip to drag along the walls of her
vagina. Her inner muscles twitched.

“Oh gods.” She closed her eyes to focus on his kiss. The
drag and push of his tongue ignited her nerve endings and left her quivering.

She tried to ease away from the sensitivity but couldn’t
move. He firmed his grip on her legs and forced them wider apart. A sense of
vulnerability overcame her, leaving her—the predator—whimpering and desperate.

She grabbed the edges of the desk to stop her restless
squirming. It didn’t help. She was ready to combust. With his mouth still
pressed to her core, he growled. Vibrations raced straight to her womb. Her
eyes rolled back. A throaty groan escaped.

He pierced her with his flattened tongue, parting her
muscles as she imagined his cock would. More cream flowed. She undulated under
him, needing to come but not wanting to lose this feeling. He made a hungry
sound and changed his invading thrusts to lapping licks as he drank her up.

“Josh,” she whispered.

His appreciative moan in response was the kind females
yearned to hear. It meant her lover enjoyed her taste and what he was doing to
her.

Another thrust and curl of his tongue had her back arching.
She strained as she fought the urge to fuck herself on his tongue, rub her sex
into his face and come. She wanted to orgasm for him and give him her pleasure.

Josh made love to her with his mouth, each thrust winding
her tighter and readying her for a release that would rock her world. She
writhed for him. Her moans filled her ears and the sound of her breathy cries seemed
to spur him on. He quickened his prodding thrusts. With his thumb pressed to
her button, he rubbed her clit and took her up so quickly her lower body
quivered.

“Josh, please.”

She felt his answering groan deep within her womb. A series
of flicks to her sensitive nub and she careened into a mind-blowing release.
Waves whipped along her core and spread throughout her body. She hung somewhere
between ecstasy and reality while Josh kept thrusting into her with his
flattened tongue. He lengthened her orgasm, adjusting his strokes until she
shook under the force of it. Gentle licks brought her back down. She closed her
eyes, limp from her pleasure, and enjoyed the slow movement of his tongue as he
lapped up the last of her release.

He tipped his head back on a moan. His chin glistened, his chest
heaved. The muscles of his arms bulged. He looked strong, primal and damn
pleased with himself. Meeting her gaze, he gave her a smile. It reignited her
desire. She wanted him to eat her out again, fuck her, anything to ease the
flames burning deep inside.

He stretched over her prone body. With his elbows bracketing
her arms and his fingers resting against her neck, he stared into her eyes. The
possessiveness she saw reflected in his gaze worried her.

She opened her mouth to remind him nothing had changed
between them, but never got the words out. He slipped his tongue between her
parted lips. Her arousal flavored the slow, drugging kiss. Josh’s scent and his
hard body over hers added to the fire he fanned within her. She linked her arms
loosely around his shoulders.

She lost track of time as he worshiped her. Finally, he
broke the kiss. A smile lit up his face, the kind a man wore when he knew he’d
sated his lover.

“Was that kiss any better?”

The sound of muffled screams stopped her admission. Josh
jumped back, tugging her skirt down as he stepped away.

He cursed. In one quick move, he grabbed a flannel shirt
draped over his desk chair, wiped his face and turned for the door. She sat
there, too relaxed from her orgasm to move. The loud thump of a body hitting
something and the sound of splintering wood brought her back to reality.

A shifter’s roar rang out. She knew that enraged call and
Aron’s bellowed curse confirmed her suspicion. The fight was her fault.

Chapter Fourteen

Mira followed Josh down the hallway to find chaos had taken
over the bar. Humans scrambled to get out of the way of the two huge males
fighting in the middle of the dance floor. Both remained in their human forms,
but Kade’s swirling eyes betrayed how close he was to losing it. Mira rushed
forward.

Josh grabbed her. Hands on her hips, he lifted her and
dropped her into the waiting arms of the bouncer. “Stay here, kitten. I’ll
handle this.”

The human wrapped his beefy arms around her. “Josh is right,
Mira. You don’t want to get in the middle of this one. That new guy tossed me
clear across the room when I tried to stop them.”

He meant Aron. Kade was well-known at the Black Widow. She
didn’t bother fighting to break free of his hold. The man was as stubborn as
Josh. She also didn’t want to hurt him. Not all mortals were as tough as her
beloved human.

A few feet away, Josh shoved the fighting shifters apart. “Break
it up.”

Kade paid no attention to the order. He tried to sidestep
him to get to Aron. Josh flung an arm out, stopping him. Kade shifted his angry
gaze from Aron to Josh. His lips lifted in a silent snarl. Josh backed the
pissed-off shifter into the wall and got up into his face.

“Remember where you are, Kade.” Josh’s warning drifted to
her over the crowd’s murmurs.

Another human bouncer held Aron back. He towered over the
male but didn’t use his strength against him. He turned his head. She followed
the direction of his gaze. Zoe stood off to the side, eyes wide and arms banded
across her chest.

“Let go.” Mira pushed at the hand holding her. “Fight’s
over.”

The male released her and she moved in a beeline to the
frightened female. She stood in front of Zoe, the urge to protect her strong. “What
happened?”

Zoe peered past her to where Josh spoke in hushed tones with
Kade. “I was dancing with Aron one minute. Then Kade pulled him away from me
and started pummeling his face. I don’t know what started it.”

Mira knew. Jealousy. Zoe was Kade’s beloved human. He might
not want to be saddled with her, but no way would he let another shifter touch
her. She belonged to him. Poor Zoe. She didn’t know what she was in for. Guilt
welled. If it hadn’t been for her insane jealousy, Zoe wouldn’t belong to Kade
in the first place.

“I’m sorry, Zoe. This is all my fault.”

Zoe frowned, the confused look so similar to the one Josh
wore on occasion. Up close, she could see the similarities between the
siblings. They had the same eyes and straight nose, only Zoe’s features held a
delicate edge. A cleft dimpled her chin too. How could she have ever thought
this woman was Josh’s lover? She’d been clouded by her animal nature, too
territorial to see straight. It wasn’t an excuse, just the truth and one that
shamed her.

“It’s not.” Zoe shook her head. “You didn’t tell Kade to act
like a Neanderthal.”

“It is. If I hadn’t hurt you in the first place, Kade wouldn’t
have made you his beloved human.”

“Oh, please. Don’t be ridiculous. Kade didn’t have to do
anything. I was fine on my own.” She shook her head, amusement glinting in her
eyes. “Between you and me, I think the cat was looking for a reason to get his
mouth on me.”

Not likely. Kade avoided commitments and turned his back on
several females his cats had taken an interest in over the centuries. His honor
would’ve forced him to tend to Zoe’s injuries, especially since it had been his
order that kept her from seeking out human medical intervention. He didn’t act
impulsively, especially when his choice was a life-long obligation.

Kade appeared next to them, forehead creased and mouth
pressed in a thin line “And I hoped you enjoyed it because it’ll never happen
again.”

Zoe’s grin returned. “We’ll see, my pretty kitty.”

Kade’s eyes narrowed. “Stop calling me that.”

Zoe blinked innocent eyes at him. Mira hid a smirk behind
her hand.

“But it’s true. You are pretty and you’re my kitty.”

“I am not pretty nor am I
yours
.” Kade growled the
last.

She tilted her head and pursed her lips. “So did you succeed
in defending my honor,
my pretty kitty
?”

Kade bared his fangs, a sure sign Zoe was getting to him. Thankfully,
no humans were close enough to see. If Josh’s sister wasn’t careful, she’d find
herself on the receiving end of a focused cat’s attentions. Something told her
Zoe wouldn’t want that. There was a wildness about the human. She’d resent
being tamed.

Aron pushed Kade out of the way. He inhaled deeply and
turned furious eyes onto her before flicking his gaze to Josh who stood several
feet away, talking to his bouncers.

“Damn you, Mira. Did you bring me here to shame me?” Aron
looked down at her, derision on his face. “So be it. You’re on your own.”

Mira grabbed his arm. He glanced at where her lightly tanned
fingers wrapped over his darker skin. “No, don’t leave. I didn’t want this to
happen.”

Aron’s eyes focused on hers. She felt the intensity of that
gaze, despite the contacts hiding his unique black and gold eyes. They matched
his blond hair with its single black stripe. He turned his head slowly to
settle his piercing glare on Josh. The muscles under her fingers rippled and
the faintest prickling of fur tickled her palm. Not good, not good at all.

A low, rumbly growl trickled past his lips. He pulled his
arm away and strode toward Josh, his intent clear.

“Aron, stop!”

He kept walking. Josh turned and lowered his chin. He spread
his arms out to the side, hands flexing. Inviting the fight. Excitement flashed
across his face, but Aron wouldn’t fight fair. There’d been murder in his eyes
when he had focused on Josh.

She ran forward and grabbed Aron. He shoved her away and
continued his steady approach. She turned worried eyes to Kade. He gave a small
shake of his head. Why wasn’t he getting involved? Damn, stubborn males.

Desperate now, she jumped in Aron’s path and pressed her palms
to his chest. He stopped and shifted his enraged eyes to her. She sensed Josh’s
approach. His hand landed on her shoulder inches from her scar. A whip of electricity
skipped through the seared entry points. It startled her and her hands dropped
from Aron’s chest. She peered over her shoulder at Josh. He slid his gaze from
Aron to her, a fierce stamp of possession in his eyes. The sight left her
breathless.

“Let her go,” Aron ordered.

Josh looped an arm around her waist and yanked her against
his chest. He settled his palm over her lower belly. “No, I don’t think I will.”

“I wasn’t around the last time, but I’m here now. Mira is
mine to protect, always has been. You’ve signed your death with your deplorable
act. Nobody will ever force her again,” Aron declared in a low voice.

What was he talking about? Forced her? The words clicked.
She settled against Josh, her anxiety easing, and shook her head. Heat flushed
her face. “Josh didn’t force me to do anything, Aron.” She cleared her throat. “I
meant I hadn’t planned on…talking to Josh tonight.”

Aron snorted, the relief on his face evident. “I’d say you
did a lot more than talk.” He shook his head and reached for her hand. “No
matter, say good night to the human, Mira. We’re leaving.”

She placed her hand in his. Josh took her other so she was
stretched between them. How fitting. It was the same battle taking place in her
heart between what she wanted and what she should embrace.

Josh stepped into her, pressed their chests against each
other. Blue eyes captured hers. He stroked his thumb over the corner of her
mouth, a light touch that made her tremble.

“Thank you for the kiss, Mira. It was wonderful.” He brushed
his lips over her cheek. “Dream of me tonight.”

Aron tugged her away, mumbling under his breath about
foolish romantic humans.

“Let’s go, female. The night’s young and I’m not done with
you.”

She allowed Aron to lead her away, but her eyes stayed locked
onto the blue ones she knew would meet her in her dreams later tonight.
