, p 301, where Larkin specifically recalls in 1959 that it was in August 1955. What we know about his movements that month strongly suggests that it was Saturday the 13th. As for Whit Saturday that year, it was on the eve of a national railway strike, and it is temperamentally unlikely that Larkin would have taken the risk, not knowing how he was going to get back.
