herself.

Do

The

kept

She

herself
backward
until

to keep

Paddy

filled
her

She
reached
for
her
neck,
remembering
the
poke
of

omething
sharp
before
her
world
had gone
black.

Who
would
do
this

over

the

No!
It
can’t
be!

Her
cry
stuck
in
her
throat.
“Meeka.”
S
he
cried.

No,
no,
no.
This
is
all
my
fault.

“Meeka,

Pad

begged
between
her

The
floor

as

he
crawled
with
her

body
over

S
he
tucked her long
sable
locks
behind her ear and away
from the
girl’s

Please

she
placed
Meeka’s
head
onto
her
lap.

Meeka

her e

Panic clouded her
face. A

“Meeka,
it’s

It’s
Pad

Meeka
croaked.
“St

She

It

It’s Padd

So

“You

Meeka
accused.
“You

Paddy
didn’t
know
how
to
begin
to
reassure
her,
but

had

“I

Meeka.
I’ve

Her

to

“You
took

from
the
house.
You
said
it

okay
with
Kerrigan.”
Tears

face,
leaving
tracks
in
the
dirt.

“Meeka,
I
promise

Think
about
it.
Catz
wouldn’t

A

He

Meeka
felt
the

tears sting
her
