He broke the kiss, picked up his T-shirt, and placed it against the fence post. “Lean against this.”

As soon as she did, he pulled her panties down as if he was in a race against time. He tapped her leg and she stepped out of them. He spread open her ankles so far she almost had to bend her knees to remain upright.

“Don’t move.”

His authoritative demand had a spasm rolling up her body. He leaned closer and licked her pussy.

“God, Cam.” Her eyes almost rolled back in her head. The divine bliss surrounded her.

“Don’t come.”

That command startled her. “Why?” Her breath whooshed out.

“Trust me. It’ll be better that way.”

When he flicked her clit, any response she might have had disappeared. He slipped a finger into her opening, and her world seemed to tilt. The fresh air carrying the scent of sage mixed with the sunshine and brought to life all that was good.

Cam curled a finger and hit a sweet spot. She swooned. “Please, Cam. I need you.”

His tongue made a path up her belly and landed on her tit. “I love this one.”

She had no time to ask about the other one. He twisted the nipple and pressed on the tip. A blast of pain pierced her but quickly radiated intense pleasure straight down her clit. The combination spiked her need.

Cam alternated between breasts, sometimes sucking, sometimes drawing the bundle of sensitive nerves between his teeth, and at other times drawing the hardened crest between his fingers and rolling it.

He leaned back. “I can’t wait.” He picked up the condom he’d set on the post, ripped the foil with his teeth and slipped it on. He spun her around so she faced the post.

He dragged the jeans back a little, allowing her to step farther from the fence and rest her hands more comfortably. His face planted on her back as he pressed his cock to her opening. Instead of impaling her, he massaged her breasts and trailed kisses across her shoulders.

Mandy eased her hips back in the hopes he’d get the hint. “Hurry.”

“Let me savor you for a moment.”

He’d only pressed his cock in an inch, and already his size stretched her. Her slick walls wept, ready to accept the rest of him. She wiggled her hips, urging him on.

One hand roamed downward as he sucked on the shell of her ear. “You smell like fresh flowers.”

All she smelled was her sex perfuming the air. Cam pressed on her clit and she milked his cock in response.

“Oh, shit. Don’t do that, angel. I’m so on edge.”

“So am I.”

Perhaps it was her strangled cry that convinced him, but he cupped her breast with one hand, and pressed on her clit with the other. He drove into her.

Her feral cry didn’t sound human. He groaned and moaned as he thrust into her.

“Angel. You’re so fucking tight. So perfect.”

He dropped his chin on her shoulder and kissed her cheek. The hand on her breast disappeared only to capture her hair the wind had blown. His chest heaved and his cock forged a wide path into her.

Each stroke built her fire. His hands created chaos and helped push her closer to that final moment when her body reached nirvana. He pressed on her clit again, and she hissed through her teeth, trying not to come, but each thrust lit her up. Her muscles convulsed and her body clamped down on his cock.

His fingertips dug into her. His cock pulsed hard.

To hell with not climaxing. She had no control. Sparks lit up her body. With his cock fully embedded in her, her orgasm washed over her from pussy to limbs. “Cam!”

He buried his head in her neck and, with cock pulsating, shot his jism into the hot condom. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. “Holy shit, angel.”

She had the same sentiment. She didn’t want to move, didn’t want to think—only feel. Mandy pushed aside right from wrong and thrilled to the moment.

Cam rubbed her arms and pulled out. He dug into his backpack and pulled out a bandana. “Let me clean you.”

Unable to move, he reached around and wiped her dry. Cam stood and leaned against the fence post. “You know, I’ve lived here my whole life and yet have never made love at this fence before.” He smiled. “This might be my new favorite spot.”

He crossed his arms over his chest, leaned back, and closed his eyes. She’d never seen a more beautiful man in her life.

A cloud blocked the sun, and she remembered the random shower when she had been with Vince. “Maybe we should get dressed.”

He opened his eyes and glanced at the sky. “Good plan.”

She pulled on her panties and jeans, stepped into her boots, then hopped off his jeans. Cam picked them up and dusted them off.

“I hate to wash these. Maybe I’ll hang them up, and when I look at them, I’ll think of this glorious moment.”

She laughed. “I never took you for a sentimental man.”

“That’s the odd thing about it. I’m not.”

They finished dressing, picked up the rifle, stowed the cans and ammunition in his backpack, and headed to the car.

“Thanks for the lesson, but I need to practice.”

He cocked a brow. “You really want to learn how to shoot?”

Cam slipped in the front seat and she climbed in the passenger’s side. “That’s why I asked you.”

He jammed the key in the ignition. “Hell, I thought you wanted to get me alone so you could ravish my body.”

Had he not winked, she might have punched him.

She rolled down the window and checked the sky again. The cloud hovered over the sun, but what had been dark gray was now closer to white. His Jeep handled the land quite well, but she held onto the handle to keep from jostling too much.

He slowed. “Shit.”

“What?”

“That’s Sharon’s car.”

She had to think who Sharon was. “Sharon, as in your ex-fiancée, Sharon?”

“As soon as she gives me back the ring, she’ll officially be my ex.”

Crap
. She prayed what happened on the range wasn’t some kind of needed release, though maybe she was as guilty.

Sharon rounded the side of the house, stopped, and smiled. A frown appeared as soon as Mandy exited the car.

Cam’s torso straightened and his jaw tightened. He faced her and placed his hands on Mandy’s shoulders. “Don’t listen to anything she says. It’s over between us.”

Mandy blew out a breath. “I should be going.”

Too bad her car was parked next to Sharon’s Mercedes. It looked a lot like the one she’d owned. In fact, if she rewound her life to a few months ago, some might have said they were twins—same height, same coloring, same style of dress. But that was the old Mandy.

Something inside her twisted. She didn’t want to walk away. Letting Sharon know Cam was now hers seemed right.

As if she was unaware of their history, she stepped up to Sharon and held out her hand. “Hi. I’m Mandy.”

Sharon didn’t shake her hand. Instead, she faced Cam. “We need to talk.”

Poor Cam looked like he’d been dumped barefoot and naked in front of a herd of racing buffalos. Mandy placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. “Thanks again for everything.” She stood on her toes and kissed his cheek. “Call me!”

With as much fake cheer as she could muster, she bounced toward her car, pretending as if she stood on top of the world. She scrambled onto the seat, and with shaky fingers stuck the key into the ignition. Instead of backing up, she jetted forward and slammed the brake in time not to plow Sharon over. She mouthed, “Sorry.”

Paying attention, she put the gear in reverse, backed up until she could execute a turn, and drove off—but not without taking one more glance in the rearview mirror.

Cam was in a clinch, kissing Sharon. Her stomach tumbled. Tears brimmed her lashes, and she sniffled to keep them at bay.

As soon as she made it to the end of the drive and turned toward the Circle Bar ranch, she slapped the wheel and cursed up storm.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Chapter Seven

Cam pried Sharon’s arms from his neck and stepped back. “What are you doing here?” He failed to keep bitterness from his tone.

“Cameron, don’t be like that.”

She reached up again, but before her hands touched him, he grabbed her wrists and held them at her side. “Be like what? Should I be happy you ran off without a word?” The engagement ring twinkled, and he was tempted to rip it off her finger.

Her bottom lip protruded. At one time he might have found the pout sexy, but not anymore.

“I was overwhelmed. I needed time to think.”

“Did racking up twenty grand in credit card charges help clarify your thoughts?” Vince had made him see the light. Cam had finally cancelled the cards two weeks ago.

“I’m sorry about that, but I was depressed.”

He didn’t need to hear her excuses. “What do you want?”

“I came to apologize. I realize I want both you and Vince.” She tugged her hands out of his grasp and placed them behind her back.

He wouldn’t be surprised if she knelt and lowered her head in a submissive gesture just to get his juices flowing. This time it wouldn’t work.

“I’ve found someone else.” No need to discuss he’d only met her. The connection with Mandy had been formed, the likes of which he hadn’t known with Sharon. Thank God he’d come to his senses.

“That woman?” She nodded to the drive.

The dust from her departure was only now settling. “Yes.” Sharon didn’t deserve to learn anything about her.

Sharon lifted her gaze. “Where did you meet?” Her tone might have sounded friendly, but the trembling chin was a sure sign of anger.

“I’m not playing twenty questions.” He inhaled deeply to force down the anger.

Her lip curled. She tore off her ring and threw it at his chest. He didn’t try to catch it.

She spun and strode toward her car. When she reached the driver’s side, she faced him. “This isn’t over. Mark my words.”

She gunned the engine and floored the accelerator, as if meaning to do as much damage to the ground as possible. She raced down the drive, bouncing all the way.

“Good riddance.”

At seeing her again, he expected his heart to pound. He’d also pictured this reunion many times and the outcome had always resulted with them in bed. Now Mandy had changed all that. He felt sorry for Sharon and disgust for himself. He’d been blind, and nothing Vince said had gotten through. His friend had seen her as a gold digger. Cam had pictured the perfect wife, the mother of his children. “You were a fool, Cameron Longworth.”

He shook his head, picked up the tossed ring, and headed inside, hoping never to confront her again.

* * * *

Not until Mandy pulled behind the bunkhouse did the tears dry. What had started out as fun and romantic and ecstatically fantastic, ended up humiliating. She rushed out of the car, and as she rounded the corner, ran into Sam.

“There you are.” Her boss smiled.

She worked hard to appear cheery. “You need me?”

Sam handed her a piece of paper. “Here’s the information on the first responder class. Sorry, I didn’t get this to you earlier. The class starts tomorrow. Every new hire needs the certification to take people into the woods.”

The job application had stated the requirement. “No problem.” It would give her something to focus on besides Cam and Vince.

“One other thing.” Juliette ran out from the house. Sam turned around. “Excuse me.”

Mandy’s heart ached. Seeing those two at the birthday party made her realize how much she’d wanted children. Letting Craig talk her out of it should have clued her in to the fact they weren’t compatible.

Sam picked up her daughter and held her on her hip. She tapped her daughter’s nose. “You’re getting too big to pick up.”

“Mommy. You’re the one who’s too big.”

Sam kissed Juliette’s forehead and set her down. “Go find Heath and tell me what he’s doing.”

Juliette squealed. “Okay, Mommy.” She dashed off.

“She’s adorable.” Seeing the little girl’s joy helped eliminate her sadness.

“She is, but she’s also a handful. I wanted to let you know about the annual fundraiser my parents have every year. It’s to help raise money for foster children, not only in Intrigue, but nationwide.”

She wished Craig had been into charities. “Sounds wonderful.”

“All of my women help with the affair.”

That sounded fun. “I’ll be glad to do whatever you need.”

“The event is in two weeks. They like to sandwich it in between the Fourth of July festivities, which Heath, Wade, and I host every year, and Labor Day.”

“Sounds good.” She’d missed the Independence Day affair, and according to Lilly, it was spectacular.

Sam turned at the sound of tires coming down the drive and shielded her eyes. “It’s my sister, Jenny. She’s a teacher, too. I’ll introduce you two at the party.”

“Great.” Mandy wouldn’t have to lie for a change. She loved kids and could talk about them all day long.
