For this prayer, you need a rosary, which is a string of beads with a crucifix. A short string of five beads is attached to the crucifix, which is joined to a circular string of beads consisting of five sets of one large bead and ten smaller beads, known as “decades.” Each decade is recited in honor of a mystery of the life of our Lord and His Blessed Mother, beginning with the Annunciation of the Incarnation and ending with Mary's triumphal Coronation in heaven. There are three sets of mysteries: the five Joyful Mysteries, the five Sorrowful Mysteries, and the five Glorious Mysteries. Although the entire rosary consists of fifteen decades, it's customary to recite five decades at a time, while meditating on one set of mysteries.

To say the rosary, make the sign of the cross. Take the crucifix of the rosary and pray the Apostles' Creed (the prayers appear later in this section). Move to the first large bead and pray the Our Father. For the three small beads, say one Hail Mary per bead, followed by the Glory Be and the prayer that Our Lady of Fatima asked the Fatima children to add after each decade: the Decade Prayer. For the next large bead, pray the Our Father.

After these prayers, move to the circular section of the rosary. For the first large bead, announce and meditate on the first mystery, then say the Our Father. A Hail Mary is said for each of the ten small beads, followed by the Glory Be and the Fatima Decade prayer. This completes one decade of the rosary. Proceed to the next mystery and repeat the process until five decades of the rosary have been said. Conclude with the Hail, Holy Queen prayer. (After completing the rosary, I also like to say the St. Michael prayer.)

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be to the Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Fatima Decade Prayer

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins; save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.

The Five Joyful Mysteries

(These are said on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as Sundays from the beginning of Advent until Lent.)

The Annunciation

And when the angel had come to her, he said, “Hail full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women.” (Lk. 1:28)

With the Fatima Decade Prayer after the last decade, the rosary is concluded. The Sign of the Cross may then be made to close the devotion. Catholics, however, customarily add the Hail, Holy Queen to close the devotion:

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let Us Pray: O God, whose only-begotten Son, by his life, death, resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life: grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. APPENDIX III:

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE VIRGIN MARY

I, an unworthy Christian, renew and ratify today in thy hands, O Immaculate Virgin Mary, the vows of my baptism; I renounce forever Satan and all his works; I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, that I may carry my cross after Him all the days of my life and be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before. In the presence of all the Heavenly Court I choose thee this day for my Mother and Mistress. As thy slave I deliver and consecrate to thee my body and my soul, all that I have of interior and exterior goods including all the value of my good actions, past, present and future; giving to thee the entire and full right of disposing of me and all that belongs to me, without exception according to thy will, for the greater honor and glory of God in time and in eternity.
