Dimitri knew his friend wasn’t kidding. “We’ll handle it. Go.”

Greyson scooped Emma up, and raced her to the car. Inside, Natasha was there with the engine running. He didn’t know what to do.

Hospital or home?

“Call Steele,” he ordered the navigational system. When the man’s voice came on, he needed to know. “Emma’s been drugged. We found her at Adam Price’s place. Do I need to get her to the hospital?”

“Check her pulse.”

“It’s not too weak.”

“Bring her home. He’s drugged her with Ketamine. She’ll only be out a short time. She’ll be fine.”

Natasha drove.

“Come on, Emma. I’m so sorry,” he said, getting angry. He’d been off screwing with the commissioner, when he should have been at her side.

“She’ll be okay, Greyson,” Natasha said. “You saved her in time.”

To him, it didn’t matter.

It only forced him deeper into the darkness. Someone had touched his wife.

There was a penalty for that.

It was coming.

He wouldn’t be able to hold it back.

Nor did he want to.

Two Hours Later

When she woke, she had one hell of a headache. She wasn’t at Adam Price’s place, but in her own bed, in her pajamas, and her husband by her side.

He was sitting in a chair, his feet up on the bed.

And he had that look on his face.

Here it came.

“Emma,” he said, getting up.

While she expected him to lose it, instead he climbed across the bed to hold her in his arms.

“I’m good, Grey,” she whispered.

“Are you?” he asked. Here, in the safety of their home, he could be the worried husband, and not the mob man. Here, he could be gentle, sweet, and cater to his woman.

Greyson cuddled her against his body, and as he did, he left gentle kisses across her face. “I was so scared. Did he touch you, Emma?”

She didn’t have a clue.

Instead, she opted to give him what he needed to hear.

“No. You got there just as I passed out.”

He hugged her again.

“Did you kill him?” she asked.

He laughed. “I do have some restraint.”

Emma stared at him. “Greyson Croft, answer the question. Did you kill him? If you did, we can’t get Seth off.”

“No, the police have him. It seems a handy reporter has been working on this case, and he broke it wide open. Adam Price is in jail. The reporter put it all over the news, but we’ll watch tomorrow.”

“I want to watch….”

His mouth found hers, and he sealed them together. His hands roughly slid beneath the silk of her pajamas. The kiss said it all.

They would watch later.

As he pressed her into the mattress, he finally set her mouth free. “We have things to discuss.”

“Like?” she asked, as his hands slid into her pants. When he found her, his fingers stroked that one perfect spot.

She moaned.

“Mostly about us, here, and now. Later, we’ll talk about the case, but since I saved the girl, I think I deserve a reward.”

“What kind of reward, Greyson?” Emma asked, curling into his strong body.

“I need to stop the cold, Emma. When I thought I lost you…”

He didn’t have to say anything else.

She got it.

“I guess you do deserve a reward.”

Oh, he did, and it was the only thing that would help him forget what had happened.

“I want your mouth all over me.”

She grinned wickedly.

“Well, since you saved the girl...”

Greyson watched as his wife flicked open his jeans, and they rolled. When her mouth covered his erection, there was that peace.

For now.

Later, he knew the truth.

He’d have to face the facts.

Vegas had won. He was never going back. He’d crossed too many lines, and broken too many laws.

Greyson Croft, mob boss, was here to stay.

God help Vegas.

It was just the beginning.

Greyson Croft was going dark Justice.

Epilogue

Monday

One week later

It was all over the news. There were two big stories that week. First, there was the tale of the exonerated male, framed by his lover.

It was a torrid story of how in his sickness, he killed to fill his needs. It was also a story of how one sister’s love and the need to save her brother had been enough.

Her interviews were all over the news.

The reporter was getting the credit. Kent Lachner was the hero, and that was exactly what the Crofts and Dimitri Gideon had wanted. They were going to stay under the cover of secrecy on this one.

They couldn’t continue to help people if everyone knew they were doing it. The law would try to stop them.

Well, more than they normally did.

The other story all over the news was that Commissioner Raye was taking bribes. The pictures of Greyson handing him an envelope were all over the papers.

That had to be eating the man alive.

They both knew it was harmless.

Still…

If he was going to play in the shark-filled water, he was going to have to outthink them.

They all knew that wasn’t going to happen.

They had the advantage. As the once law, and now the reigning bad guys, the field was covered.

They had a monopoly.

“He’s going to have a stroke,” Emma said, laughing as they all sat in the living room watching the news.

The whole family was there, with the exception of Dimitri. He’d had something to handle.

Greyson was beside her, Curtis and Kat were cuddled off in a corner of the large L-shaped couch, Natasha was sitting in a chair, not far from Christopher Ford.

Dante and Steele were on the love seat, holding hands.

“He’s going to come at us,” Chris said, trying to ignore that Natasha looked beautiful. She was wearing a sundress, and he wanted to reach out and touch her hand.

She’d been staying away from him the last week, and he knew why. He’d pushed her away.

It looked like he was going to have to talk to Emma. It was weird. Here he was going to ask dating advice from a woman he believed was his sister and who he had a crush on.

Why couldn’t his life be easy?

“He’s going to lose his job,” Steele said. “They’ll make him take a leave, and then they’ll shit can him. Been there,” Steele stated.

Emma didn’t care.

The family was intact.

They all got quiet when there was a flash across the screen. It looked like a special broadcast.

The reporter went on:

‘An hour ago, Adam Price, recently arrested for killing countless women and framing Seth Bell was found stabbed in his cell. The police are investigating, but from what we’ve heard, he was mutilated. More information to come.’

They all began talking, except Emma.

She stared at her husband. His face was completely blank. She didn’t need to know what happened.

She could already tell.

Greyson had made sure the man paid. He’d touched her, and that to him was egregious.

“Greyson.”

He stopped her with a kiss.

There was nothing to talk about. Emma would remain pure, and he’d do the dirty deeds needed to keep his family alive in this city.

Screw it
.

This was his life.

And as God as his witness, he was going to live it.

His way.

Across Town

Dimitri was at a loss.

He’d been alerted that for the last few days, Marissa never showed up for work. She’d not called, she’d not told anyone where she was, and he was beginning to get worried.

It wasn’t like her.

Marissa, if anything, was reliable. She might have some secrets, but she wasn’t a bad person. She couldn’t be. He would have known.

Dimitri was good at seeing that in a person.

Heading into her building, he found the door slightly ajar. Immediately, he thought the worst. When he pushed it open, he fully expected to see a crime scene. Instead, he found a woman cleaning the place.

She jumped when she saw him.

“Oh! Jesus!”

“I’m sorry. I was looking for Marissa. She works for me, and she didn’t show up for work. I wanted to check on her.”

The woman laughed. “You aren’t the only one looking for her. I got a note under my door yesterday that she was leaving. I came in, found her key, a few things she left behind, and no trace of her.”

That blew his mind.

She did run.

What the hell was going on?

“What did she leave behind?”

“There’s a box on the kitchen table. You’re welcome to it. I was just going to throw it in the trash. She was supposed to give me a month’s notice if she was leaving.”

He was curious.

In the kitchen, he found the box. Inside were the little pots of herbs she’d fussily planted in the sunny kitchen, a sheet of paper with a name on it, and then a picture.

When he picked it up, there was that punch of recognition. He’d seen the girl before.

It was Julie.

She was the hooker they’d run into when they were interviewing Gerald Darden.

But why?

Why was Marissa Pierce looking for the young girl?

It confused him.

On the paper, he read the name.

               ‘Anthony Delmarco.’

How the hell did this woman know Julie, the young prostitute, and where was she? Why did she run? Who was this guy?

Dimitri took the box and headed out of Marissa’s apartment. This was going to bug the shit out of him until he figured it out.

One way or another, he’d find out the answer—possibly to the most important question of them all.

Why the bloody hell did he give a damn?
