Chapter Two

Nellie

My plane just landed, and I am exhausted. I spent the entire night with my mom balling her eyes out because I have decided to come back home. Seattle was never home for me. I was a bit angry when Mom and Steve decided they needed a change, which meant my life had to change too.

I miss Cali; I miss my friends. I miss the weather and the excitement. I miss my best friend. Bean may have had Noah, but Bean was it for me. We met in the second grade and became instant friends. My heart broke when I had to leave her behind. She saw me through my parents’ divorce, and she was there for me when my mom started to date her uncle.

Don’t get me wrong I love Steve, and I think he is great for my mom. I just hadn’t been expecting their relationship to happen. My mom met Steve when she came to pick me up from one of Bean’s family functions.

We had taken off for a store run with Bean’s cousin, Heather. So Mom had to wait for me. Steve being the sweetheart he is sat with Mom and chatted her up while she waited for me to return. They hit it off, and he asked her out on a date.

Bean was excited about their relationship from the beginning. In her eyes, we would finally be family. I, however, was not ready for a new dad. I had one, even if he wasn’t the greatest and had forgotten about me. I was holding out hope he would remember his first born.

Mom marrying Steve turned out to be great until he received an opportunity of a lifetime. In my sophomore year of high school, I had to leave everything I ever knew. I would have come back sooner, once I graduated high school, but Mom got sick, and I decided to stay close by.

I’ll be turning twenty-five soon, and I am ready to live my own life. The truth is I just came out of a horrible relationship, and I need a change. While I could be honest with Steve about all the reasons I want to leave, I could never tell all this to my mom.

Things changed once she became sick. Mom used to be strong and I could count on her for just about everything, which was big for me being such a shy child growing up. Now she worries about everything. I almost decided against leaving, but Steve insisted I do what is best for me.

I wasn’t sure at first, but I have been talking to Uncle Rob for a few months now. Since I was already a part of the Lockhart family through my friendship with Bean, her uncle and dad slipped right into the role of being my real uncles as well. I gained one more uncle also, Joseph Black or Joe as most people call him.

You could say I gained a lot of family with Steve. With Bean and Noah being inseparable, I already knew most of the Black brothers. All except one, actually. The oldest brother, Wyatt, he had been away at college when Mom and Steve hooked up. Although Noah spent a lot of time with Bean, I had few encounters with Wyatt before that. I’m not even sure if he knows I exist.

Toby is the Black brother that I am closest with. We had a lot of classes together in high school. I like Toby, he has a sense of humor not everyone appreciates. Toby does the opposite of everything he is told. I guess that is why he and I are close. I may be shy, but I am no conformist. I am always thinking outside the box.

I suppose that is why Uncle Rob has been trying to recruit me. Uncle Rob has been talking about how much Heather could use some help around the office. Uncle Rob and Joe own an upscale private investigation firm and at times, they do a little bounty hunting. I am great with technology, so that is an added bonus for the firm, as Uncle Rob put it.

Sometimes Wyatt and Felix are on the road, and they need someone in the office at all times that can really work their way around a computer. In other words, they need a third hacker on the team, one that is not always out in the field.

I won’t toot my own horn, but I am pretty awesome with a computer. Heck, give me a phone and I could shut down some interesting major entities. I won’t tell you which ones because Steve pulled some big strings to get my butt out of trouble when I was sixteen.

Mom was healthy back then and boy did she lay into me. Steve was secretly pretty proud of me. He’d told me that he hadn’t seen talent like mine since Wyatt and Felix Black. Let me tell you, that is a huge compliment. The Blacks are legendary in their industry and in some other places as well. It is why their firm pulls top dollar.

I am actually really excited to get started. Heather and I have been talking a lot lately as well, and she seems to be just as excited as I am. Bean is the only other person I have told that I am moving back to stay. I thought about reaching out to Toby, but nothing has been made official.

“Don’t be disappointed. Toby is just not the Toby he used to be,” Heather mentioned. She went on about him changing some lately, but I plan to wait and see for myself.

Heather pretty much gave me the low down on all of the brothers to catch me up before I arrive in the office. I am grateful to her for that. “You’ll love working with the guys. They are great. Just watch out for that heartbreaker, Wyatt and you will be just fine,” she teased.

I can’t imagine how it is going to be to work with all seven brothers. Forget the fact that they are all drop dead gorgeous, I am only five three, and every last one of the Black brothers are over six feet. That is a bit intimidating. I sigh at my tired thoughts as I look at my sad eyes in the mirror.

I managed not to cry too much on the flight here. My eyes aren’t too red. I packed my Visine just so Uncle Rob wouldn’t notice if I did break down on the way here.

I sigh again and turn my phone on as the flight attendant announces we can disembark the plane. I don’t rush to get my things and get off. I know Uncle Rob too well to rush. He is probably running late. Sure enough, I have a text from him stating that he is tied up and had to send Wyatt in his place.

“Great,” I mumble. I may have never had much interaction with Wyatt Black person to person, but it doesn’t mean I don’t know who he is.

I used to have a stupid crush on him, but I made sure to admire him from a distance. I mean who wouldn’t have a crush on him. Only the Blacks can be so good looking with their golden eyes, that are so luminescent and framed by dark brows and lashes that put Zac Efron’s whole dreamy eyed look to bed. It is totally not fair that all seven brothers have looks that would make women give up everything they own just to stand in the same room with them.

I remember all of the girls that used to flock around Wyatt and none of them looked like me. That thought makes my stomach turn as I look down at what I have chosen to wear for this flight. I look a right tired mess. I shove those thoughts to the side. The last thing I need right now is to be hung up on Wyatt Black. It seems I’m not the greatest judge of character when it comes to men anyway.

I sigh an exhausted sigh and get up to face the man that starred in my junior high school and high school fantasies. There is nothing I can do about it now. “Thanks, Uncle Rob,” I mutter to myself.

Wyatt

We arrive at the airport thirty minutes after Nellie’s plane should have landed. I sigh in relief when the screen reads that her flight was actually delayed by twenty minutes, so she hasn’t been waiting that long.

Noah and I pretty much rode here in silence, stewing in our own thoughts. When I parked the truck, his phone went off. Since we arrived so late, he said he would catch up with me inside. I just rolled my eyes. Since Noah was going to be no help with me spotting the girl I should be picking up, I pulled a manila folder from my trunk to scribble down Nellie’s name.

I make my way to arrivals and hold up the sign feeling like an idiot. I have no clue what this girl looks like. She would look nothing like Steve or Rob because she is Steve’s stepdaughter. I pull my phone out to text Rob to see if he can text her or send me her number directly.

Before I finish my text and send it, a pair of small feet stop before me. I look up to see a young woman staring up at me expectantly. I am stunned for a moment. There is just something about her that catches me off guard. She’s... adorable. That is the word that comes to mind as I look into big almond-shaped, light brown eyes, behind a cute pair of glasses.

The glasses are nerdy, but sexy at the same time. That is the feel I have about this girl overall. Like she is one big contradiction to what you see, adorable, but sexy, serious, but funny, nerdy, but irresistible. I take in everything thing about her.

From her large, light brown eyes and flawless coffee brown skin, to her cute nose that her glasses are perched on. Her lashes are dark, full, and super long, which makes it look like she is wearing eye makeup when I don’t think she is. My eyes fall to her lips, oh God and those lips. If she were mine, I would spend hours sucking and kissing on those lips.

While some would call her fat, by Cali standards, I see her as pleasantly plump. Curves in all the right places and meat to wrap her bones, nope, this girl isn’t fat at all, she is fuckable. The layered t-shirts she has on are hugging a great pair of tits, not too big, but not small either. The dip of her shirts and the artfully cut up tee on top gives me a great view of her cleavage.

A tight pair of jeans, with cutouts and rips like her top t-shirt, hug her hips with love. On her little feet are a pair of heeled boots that give her outfit an edge that once again contradicts everything else you see at first glance. My eyes travel back up to her face and the wild curls that frame her face.

She is gorgeous in her own right. I’m a grown ass man and she has me speechless. I blink a few times when I notice her start to blush. She is shy, which is even more adorable. I turn on my megawatt smile, forgetting that I am here for a reason. Well, that is until she speaks.

“Hi Wyatt,” she says in the sweetest voice I have ever heard. It is soft and small but holds a sensual caress. My cock that is already semi hard, twitches in my pants, as her voice strokes even my bones. I shake my head clear and raise a brow at the fact that she knows my name.

The first thing I think is that this is another set up just like last night. I put nothing past that crazy ass Coral. I take a step back and look around. The girl gives me a confused look and rubs one hand down her jeans and uses the other to reach up and touch her hair.

I squint my eyes, she does look vaguely familiar. I rake my brain to figure out where I know her from. I go to clear up who she is and how she knows my name, but Noah comes barreling over and lifts the tiny thing up off of her feet. She wraps around him in a tight embrace, and it hits me that this is Rob’s niece. This is Nellie. Oh shit, I am so fucked. So much for that vow of celibacy.

Chapter Three

Wyatt

“Bean is going to be stoked to see you,” Noah says as he helps me get Nellie’s bags in the truck. “Damn, it is good to see you. You look great.”

“Thanks,” Nellie says shyly. “It’s great to see you too. I didn’t think you could get any bigger, but wow.”

She laughs as Noah holds up one of his biceps for her to feel. She nudges him in the ribs, shaking her head. When Nellie goes to lift the small duffle bag she is holding, into the trunk, I reach for it to do it for her. My hand brushes hers and the warmth and electricity that jolts me makes me whip my head in her direction, looking down at her, we lock eyes.

I can see she felt it too. Her lips part and her chest rises and falls faster. My eyes drop to her lips, and I lick my own. I see the moment she notices my tongue ring. Her eyes widen, and she licks her own lips. Yeah, I am used to that reaction. The piercing is one of the last things people expect to see on a guy like me, and that is one of the reasons I like it.

I have a few more surprises I would like to share with Nellie. “Damn Nellie, how long are you staying,” Noah chuckles breaking into the moment. “This is a lot of shit.”

“Actually, I’m moving back. I’ll just be staying with Uncle Rob until I can find a place,” Nellie says pulling her hand away.

“Why aren’t you moving in with Heather or Bean?” Noah asks turning to frown down at Nellie.

Nellie shrugs. “Everyone has their own life. I want my own too,” she murmurs to her feet.

“Meaning you don’t want to live with the lesbian or the party animal bartender,” Noah narrows his eyes at Nellie and bursts out laughing when Nellie starts to squirm.

“You know it isn’t like that. To me Heather is Heather. And as far as Bean and her partying goes. I don’t mind any of that. She’ll probably drag me along anyway. I just need some freedom for a while. Things were….,” Nellie looks up at me and changes her mind about whatever she was going to say. “I just need change and my own space.”

“Cool, cool, I can understand that, but you are going to have to wait on that space because we are going to hit the clubs tonight,” Noah beams.

“Oh no, I start work tomorrow,” Nellie laughs and shakes her head.

“Party pooper,” Noah grumbles tucking her under his arm and leading her to the passenger seat of the truck to open her door.

I have to admit, I am sort of stewing right now at the fact that he is taking all her attention. However, there is a part of me that wants Noah to keep her smiling the way she is just so I can stare at that beautiful smile. This woman is nothing like the women I usually date, but right now I am having a hard time tearing my eyes away from her.

It is not that she is African American. I have been with a few black women before, and I have a weakness for Latina women a mile long. I can’t even begin to tell you some of the dirty things that have come out of a woman’s mouth while I’m giving it to her. All while she thinks I don’t understand a single word.

I speak seven languages, so it is always fun to respond and watch them become completely shocked. Right now I would give anything to hear whatever language Nellie wants to scream in as I drive deep inside her. I rub my forehead trying to rub the dirty images out of my head. This is not like me. I am usually the smooth, calm one.

I round the truck as Noah hops in the back after closing Nellie in. I wish he would have let her sit in the back. I don’t know if I can focus around her. Once I am buckled into the truck, I groan internally. She smells so fucking good, like raspberries, honey, and a light hint of mint. This is going to be one long ass ride.

Nellie

I haven’t the slightest clue what is going on with Wyatt. His face when I said hello to him went from stunned, to flirtatious, to suspicious. I wasn’t sure if my breath was bad from the flight or if I looked a lot worse than I thought from the few tears I had cried.

When we touched while loading my bags, I felt a jolt go through me, and I am pretty sure he felt it too. I almost creamed my pants when he licked his lips, and his piercing peeked out of his mouth. He didn’t have that last time I saw him, but that was years ago.

Honestly, it would be a total turn off on any other guy for me. On Wyatt, it is hot as hell and causes all types of dirty thoughts about him with his face between my thighs. The piercing isn’t the only thing that has changed since the last time I saw him.

Wyatt is all man; there are no more signs of the younger, moving into manhood Wyatt. He has grown his hair out. His hair used to be cut within inches from being a true buzz cut. Now it is shorter on the sides, but longer on the top showing off his natural brown locks that he has used some product on to tame the curls, into more soft waves than curls.

He is all masculine male, with the muscled body to match. He looks more ripped beneath his tight grey t-shirt than I have ever seen him. His thick thighs push nicely against his khaki shorts that are hanging low on his slim waist. His grey and white sneakers just make him look relaxed like he could be on a case or hanging with friends, not really committing to either.

I always liked that about Wyatt. The world seems to move around him, not the other way around. It’s not just his looks. It is the fact that all seven of his brothers look up to him and listen to what he says. It is in his walk, his talk, his swagger. It is the way he looks at you if you are lucky enough to get his attention.

When his eyes locked on mine at the car park, I thought I was going to be sucked into his golden orbs. Wyatt is like a magnet. I can’t help, but be drawn to him. I peek over as his tan arm moves to rest on the gear shift. I wish Noah would have sat up front. I am fighting hard not to squirm and fidget.

“Have we met before,” Wyatt says out of nowhere.

“Not really, we have seen each other in passing,” I murmur just loud enough for him to hear.

“Sorry I don’t remember,”
is he blushing?
Oh my God, he is blushing. “I just figured we must have met before since you knew who I was.”

“No problem, it was a long time ago, we have never spoken really and I can be a forgettable person. Besides, Uncle Rob text me that you would be coming, if I hadn’t seen you before, I know all of your brothers. I would have known it was you,” I say with a small smile.

Wyatt snorts and pulls a face. “You are far from forgettable,” he says and turns to me quickly looking me over then turning back to the road.

I go to reply, but Noah speaks up from the backseat. “Hey, I just got a text from Heather. Everyone is going to Rob’s. Faith is cooking,” Noah says seemingly oblivious to our conversation.

“Oh come on,” I groan. “I told Aunt Faith I didn’t want them making a big deal.”

Noah reaches over the seat to mess my curls. “You are a big deal to us. I can’t wait to get you in the gym so I can kick your ass,” Noah laughs.

“Oh hell no,” I shake my head as I try to dodge his attack. “I left Steve in Seattle, along with the mandatory 6:00 a.m. gym visits.”

“Not a chance,” Noah roars with laughter.

I groan and cross my arms across my chest with a pout. Noah took it upon himself when we were younger to teach me self-defense. Bean had learned a lot from her dad, but Noah would drill us both.

Steve was happy to learn that when I started to date Barry back in Seattle. He wasn’t physically abusive in the beginning, but Steve never liked him and when he saw I wasn’t going to break things off with Barry he started to brush up on my self-defense. I have to say I am grateful to them both now.

We are stopped at a light. When I see it has turned green, but we are not moving I look over to where I feel eyes burning into me. Wyatt is staring at me with the most intense look I have ever seen. I feel like he can see through me as if he knows everything. I feel like he knows I am running from something.

The look sends a shiver down my back. Horns blare behind us, and Wyatt returns his attention to the road. I hear Noah chuckling softly in the back seat, but I say nothing. I still don’t understand what is going on with Wyatt. I have enough on my plate, though. I have no time for Wyatt Black, the Heartbreaker.

Heather warned me that nothing has changed there. Wyatt is still leaving a trail of hearts in his wake. Mister Love ‘em and Leave ‘em is dangerous. I have seen him in action. I may be younger, but I watched the girls that used to weep over him in high school. They all knew it would happen, but they just didn’t care. He is Wyatt freaking Black; you wait with baited breath for your turn with Wyatt Black.

I have a job to start, and I need to find a place to live. I don’t care what he says. He’ll forget me as soon as I am out of his car and the next girl crosses his path. That is who Wyatt is, and it will do me well to remember that.
