“Or mad.”
They both nodded. “I should like to know what they say when they find out. It will make me laugh, I’m sure, on more than one occasion. I would imagine that they would have a great deal to say to you when they find out.”
Peter
thought about letting them find out on their own and making himself unavailable for a few weeks. Or maybe a few years. He smiled when he knew that wasn’t going to work either. He might as well simply tell them and told his master he would take care of it straight away.
After Viktor left
, Peter sat in his room with his plants. His trees were doing so well that he knew that he’d have to transplant them into bigger pots soon. And his seedlings were now big enough to be put into the bigger pots he’d already prepared for them. He lifted the small violet and blew across the soft leaves and watched them shiver. These were his favorite of all he owned, and he had nearly every color that the young Rayne had in her shop.
“When I next go to visit my master
, I will take you to him as a gift. He always fusses at me for bringing him plants, but I have seen his room where he keeps them, and he takes pride in them. His room is becoming as grand as mine, I think.” Peter looked around. “Perhaps it’s time I expanded your room and brought in more light for you. Would you like that, my little ones?”
They didn’t speak to him as they did to Rayne
, but he knew that they would love him for it. He thought about the yard beyond this room and decided that he would make the calls to make the room larger in the morning. Perhaps one of the Goldens could recommend a good firm that could do the work for him. Peter would see Neal in the morning and ask him for help.
Going to his bedroom
, he looked at the sky light that he’d had installed a few weeks ago. He’d never dreamed that he’d ever have the opportunity to have the sun warm his face in the mornings and watch, when the mood suited him, the sun set in the late evening. His life had taken a great change in the past few months.
Reaching out to the children
, he put them to sleep, knowing that once they woke, their hunger would be great. He was sorry for it but knew that he had to give the couple a few days to rest so that when they found the rogues, they would be strong enough to battle them without getting hurt themselves. He loved them too much to even want them scratched.
Soon
, he thought, soon he’d be able to help bring them to justice. Smiling, Peter thought of the rogues and how they would react when tigers showed up to bring them to an end. Closing his eyes, Peter touched the others in the streak to make sure they were safe.
When he was assured they were
, he also reached to the others—the mates of the two remaining Golden children—and made them safe as well. When he realized that both women were up and about, doing what they did best, he left them to it, knowing that they would fight him and wear themselves out more if he tried to get them to rest for the days to come. Jules was not going to be happy with him, he thought.
Peter finally let sleep take him.
