Use Cheaper Cuts of Meat

Many people worry that diets like the Paleo diet are too expensive and so they avoid them. When using a slow cooker for your Paleo cooker recipes however, you can utilize cheaper cuts of grass-fed meats because the slow cooker tenderizes and infuses the meat with flavor.

Use Your Slow Cooker to Your Advantage

We all have different schedules, but one of the biggest benefits of the slow cooker is that it allows you to cook to your own schedule. Whether you let food cook overnight and refrigerate it for dinner that night or cook while you are at work, use the slow cooker to your advantage so that food is ready when you are to avoid giving in to hunger and cheating on your diet!

Invest in a High Quality Slow Cooker

The better quality your slow cooker, the more control you are going to have over your ingredients as they cook. While it’s not necessary to have the biggest and best slow cooker on the market, it is helpful to have certain functions. A good example of this is the slow cooker that has the option to switch from “cook” to “keep warm” after a programmed time has finished. This feature is beneficial because it will allow you to cook for longer periods of time without overcooking your meals.

Go with the most reputable slow cooker you can afford in the size that you need with the features and functions that you prefer to have.

Don’ts
Don’t Overcook!

Overcooking your ingredients in your slow cooker will not only result in dry food, but it will also result in the nutrients being cooked right out of your food! While all of our recipes come with cook times, there are various factors that can influence these cook times so it is always best to check in on your meals the first time you cook them in your slow cooker. After cooking them once you will have a general idea of how a recipe works with your slow cooker.

Don’t Overfill Your Slow Cooker!

Often times, either due to having a slow cooker that is too small or having a large amount of ingredients, people overfill their slow cookers. In order to get the best results from your slow cooker recipes you should never fill your cooker more than half to three quarters full. Overfilling can influence cook times as well as result in food-safety concerns.

Don’t Forget to Sear Your Meats!

While some recipes will remind you to sear your meats, this is a practice you should always carry out since it helps to seal in the flavor. You can sear meats Paleo style by using healthy oils and a sauté pan on your stovetop.

I make it a point to have as few leftovers as possible, and if you’re like me, then this recipe is a perfect choice. I usually use steak from last night’s dinner to use as the main ingredient for this recipe. This way, I save up on cost plus the steak will already be tender by the time it is recooked as a pizzaiola. I usually serve this recipe with potatoes on the side, but it will also be a good match with pasta or polenta.

This recipe is a staple to the dinner table whenever we visit grandma. It is comfort food at its best as you savor every bite of this dish. I was curious on how she prepared it, so I decided to watch her as she cooked the meal. I was pleasantly surprised that it can be cooked in a crock pot. As soon as I got home, I tried to make it on my own and with one try; I think I got it!

As we watched reruns of our favorite TV series, the stew was done and right in time for dinner.
