So, the gun ran out of bullets?”

No.  It just didn't fire.  The police said it was still loaded.  They say it must have jammed, misfired or something.  It was just by the mercy of God that we were not all killed.”

Wow, that's amazing.”

So after the funeral I was so distraught that I couldn't eat, or sleep.  Hell, I could barely speak.  It felt like I stopped breathing.  I just lost my will to exist.  Bear watched me withdraw more and more.  Finally, he couldn't take it anymore.  He took me to his ranch and we screwed like rabbits until we both were exhausted.  We've been attached to each other every since then, clinging to each other for comfort as if our lives depended upon it.”

I can see why he never talks about it. Watching your friend being killed before your eyes is traumatic.”

He can't and he won’t talk about it. Hell I don’t talk about it either, it’s too painful.  Bear thinks it was his fault.  He blames himself for not doing anything to stop it.  I on the other hand know for a fact that it was all me.”

That's
crazy.

It's
neither
or
your
faults.

A
crazy
prick
with
a
gun
killed
Paul,
not
you
or
Teddy.
Look
Queen,
nothing
either
one
of
you
did
could
have
changed
what
happened
that
night.

Paul
died
and
you
survived.

Don

t
dishonor
his
death
by
refusing
to
live.

Cut
yourself
a
break
and
get
on
with
life.

You
know,
I'm
trying,
but
Bear
just
can't.

His
self
destruct
button
has
been
stuck
...

Stuck
on
stupid.

Stop
giving
this
nigga
an
excuse
to
treat
you
like
trash.

Hold
his
ass
accountable.

Don't
enable
him
to
be
a
dick.

Christian
growls.

I
know.

You're
right,
and
I'm
trying,
but
it's
not
easy.

With
all
his
bullshit
he
really
loves
me
and
he
takes
good
care
of
me
and
puts
up
with
mine.

Oh,
you
mean
the
house,
the
cars
and
all
that
other
bullshit
he
gives
you
in
place
of
his
fidelity.

No,
it's
more
than
money
between
us.
You
wouldn

t
understand.

I
know
he's
got
problems,
but
so
do
I.

Between
the
two
of
us
we're
just
dysfunctional
enough
to
make
it
work.

I
can
say
one
thing
for
sure.

He
really
loves
you.

In
fact
I
don't
think
that
he's
ever
loved
anybody
but
you.

It's
easy
to
see
why.

Look,
take
my
advice
and
hold
him
to
a
higher
standard.

He'll
do
better
if
you
stop
letting
him
off
the
hook.
Make
him
step
up
or
go.

Queen
knew
that
Christian
was
right.
He
raised
some
very
valid
points.
Bear
would
behave
if
she
demanded
it.
However,
the
truth
was
that
the
only
reason
their
relationship
had
lasted
as
long
as
it
had
was
because
both
of
them
turned
a
blind
eye
to
the
others
fuck
ups
an
indiscretions.

Little
did
Christian
know
that
Queen
wasn

t
above
a
freaky
creep
of
her
own
every
time
Logic
came
to
Baltimore.
Still
she
had
let
Teddy
get
away
with
murder
over
the
past
six
months,
and
they
really
needed
to
reevaluate
and
redefine
the
boundaries
of
their
relationship.
Queen
realized
that
in
order
for
Teddy
to
become
a
better
man
that
she'd
have
to
find
a
way
to
become
a
better
woman.
In
her
heart's
heart
she
believed
that
if
she
would
give
up
Logic
then
Teddy
would
be
as
faithful
as
old
yellow.

CHAPTER 18

Later
that
night
Queen
arrived
at
Christian

s
condominium
a
little
past
eight.
Christian
answers
the
door
and
the
aroma
of
fine
cuisine
escapes.

Welcome
Mye
Queen.

Something
smells
delicious.

She
observes
as
she
enters.

That
would
be
your
dinner.

Christian
smiled.

I
hope
not.

I
was
referring
to
you.

What
cologne
are
you
wearing?

Queen
smiled
as
she
entered
the
scrupulously
decorated
condo.

Fine
black
art
adorned
the
place
and
vibrantly
colored
walls
soothed
her.

I
forgot
you
got
jokes.

Why
shouldn't
you.

You're
practically
married
to
one.

He
teased.

Queen
simply
smiles
and
nods.

Okay,
I'm
going
to
let
that
one
fly
by,
but
I'm
not
going
to
allow
too
many
more
of
those
to
go
unchecked.

My
bad.

That
may
have
been
a
low
blow.

I'll
try
to
keep
them
higher
so
that
you
can
see
them
coming.

Whatever
…
Christian
this
is
simply
amazing.

Who
decorated
the
condo
for
you?

I
wish
I
could
take
credit
for
it
but,
an
old
friend
of
mine
from
Atlanta
flew
up
and
hooked
me
up.

Christian
confesses
as
he
takes
Queen's
jacket
and
hangs
it
up.

Queen
wanders
through
the
apartment
admiring
the
decor.

She
did
a
fantastic
job.

Is
she
a
professional
designer?

Yes,
as
a
matter
of
fact
she
is.

Did
she
do
the
whole
condo?

Yeah,
she
designed
every
room.

She
has
a
unique
design
sense.

Do
you
mind
if
I
take
a
look
around?

No,
help
yourself.

It's
not
as
big
as
your
baby
mansion
but
it's
home.

Wow,
the
details
are
just
phenomenal.

Yeah,
she's
extremely
talented.

Christian
casually
agreed
as
he
follows
Queen
into
the
bedroom.

Queen
stands
mesmerized
by
the
gigantic,
masculine,
regal
king
size
bed.

This
room
is
fit
for
a
king.

All
it
needs
is
a
Queen
for
the
king
to
love.

Christian's
sultry
voice
added.

Queen,
more
startled
by
the
tone
in
Christian's
voice
than
the
statement,
quickly
moves
on
and
focuses
her
attention
on
the
master
bathroom.

She
is
really
very
gifted.

Where
did
she
train.

New
York,
London
and
Paris.
She
has
a
design
studio
in
Atlanta.

So
how
long
have
you
been
here?

A
little
over
a
month,
but
she
came
up
a
month
before
me
to
get
everything
together.

So
she
stayed
up
here
for
a
month?

No,
just
a
couple
of
weeks.

Queen
exits
the
master
suite
and
heads
back
to
the
safety
of
the
great
room.

She
takes
a
seat
and
relaxes
on
the
sofa.

Christian
joins
her.

Wow,
that
must
have
set
a
brutha
back
a
grip.

Actually,
her
services
were
free.

It
was
a
going
away
gift.

Really?

What's
that
tone?
  ‘
Really?

What's
that
all
about?

Christian
mimicked
Queen

s
voice.

Nothing.

What?

I'm
just
stating
the
obvious
that
nobody
does
anything
for
free.

It's
just
a
fact.

Well,
she
had
a
motive
of
course.

But
it
didn't
pan
out
the
way
she
thought
it
would.

So,
exactly
how
good
of
a
friend
are
we
talking?

Queen
asked
intrigued.

Why?

Inquiring
minds
want,
no
need
to
know.

Why?

Because
I'm
nosy.
Besides,
I'm
a
little
curious.

You
walk
around
like
the
man
of
steel.

I
just
want
to
know
more
about
your
kryptonite.

Why?

Christian
insisted.

Can't
I
be
intrigued?
I
just
want
to
know
what
type
of
woman
makes
Super
Man
weak
in
the
knees.

You
really
want
to
see
my
kryptonite?

Yes
I
do.
