He feels so good. Everything about his touch is good.

And all I can think about is how I never want him to stop.

All I can think about is how I want his hands on me forever.

“Do you like that?” he whispers into my neck.

“Uh huh,” I say, somehow managing to get out a response.

He responds by squeezing my ass again, harder this time.

I moan louder.

“It’s so nice,” he says as I feel his fingertips on my legs, slowly making their way up my skirt.

And then it’s like I’m in the middle of the perfect dream and something wakes me up at the best part, because suddenly Shawn’s getting yanked off my body and thrown into the dance floor. The whole thing is so fast and crazy, and I’m left there trying to calm my body down and figure out what the fuck just happened.

If Shawn notices I’m freaking out he doesn’t let on, since he doesn’t look back at all. Wow, really special I am.

But then I see why. One of the kids who was sitting with him at the table seems to be in a screaming match with some other kid. Yikes. Looks pretty intense.

I really don’t know why boys can find anything and everything to get into fights about. I mean, really, whatever happened to a nice drama-free night out with your friends?

I’m sure Shawn is running over there to break it up and talk some reason into them. I’m sure he’ll come right back over to me and we can finish whatever it was we started. Yes, that sounds very good, finishing what we started.

But just as this thought starts to make me feel better I see the back of Shawn’s head disappear in the crowd. And the last thing I can make out before the crowd totally surrounds him is Shawn pushing his friend out of the way and punching the kid he’s fighting with in the face, without saying a single word.

Great.

I lean up against the side of Veronica’s car, listening to her voicemail pick up for what feels like the millionth time. Where the hell is she? How could she just leave me alone like that, and now not even pick up her phone?

After the fight broke out the bartender said he was calling the police and everyone bounced, and fast. The cops coming is a bad idea considering all they have to do is ask to see any one of our IDs and they’ll figure out most of us are underage. The thought of my parents getting called is enough to bring me back to reality.

Where the hell could she be? I want to get the hell out of here. The parking lot is crowded and full of people trying to do the same thing I am. I don’t see Veronica anywhere. Ugh, this was just my luck. I place my head in my hands and try not to panic.

And suddenly, he’s right there in front of me. “Hey. Are you okay?” he asks as if he just appeared out of nowhere, out of the blackness of the night or something.

“Me? I should be asking you that! What the fuck was that in there?”

Shawn looks like he’s been anywhere but in a fight. As a matter of fact he looks completely and totally perfect. Not the least bit shaken. He ignores my question.

“You shouldn’t be out here just hanging out. The police are coming soon.”

He says it like I’m a child that he needs to take care of. One who doesn’t know right from wrong.

“I’m not out here by choice! Veronica is missing! God, my parents are going to kill me.” I’m starting to freak out a little and it must be evident in my voice because Shawn takes a step closer to me.

“Hey, relax. Everything’s fine,” he tells me as he pulls his phone out of his pocket and punches in a number.

“Jason! Where the fuck are you?” he says into the receiver. After a second he rolls his eyes. “The police are coming. Mike started another fight. Get to my car now. And get Veronica back to her car right fucking now too or I’m leaving your ass for the wolves.”

He hangs up his phone quickly. Did he say, “started another fight?” Great. Seems like a common occurrence with this crowd. Sigh.

He grabs me by the shoulders and leads me over to the side of the car. “She’ll be here in two minutes. Trust me. Jason’s scared of his own shadow. Wait right here and don’t talk to anyone.” Again, like I’m a child. Then he grabs my phone out of my hand and starts pressing buttons. “Text me as soon as you’re with her in the car so I know you’re safe. If she’s not here I’ll be back for you. But she will be.”

“Shawn!” a girl’s voice calls out in the darkness. “Let’s go!”

He sighs and then looks down at me.

“You’ll be okay?”

I don’t answer. Instead, I look toward where the voice came from.

“You think if I play my cards right I can be as cool as one of your groupies over there?”

He rolls his eyes, then reaches out and pushes my hair away from my face.

“Oh Chelsea, you’re already way cooler than any groupie.”

And then he’s gone.

And all I’m left with is the darkness around me.
