My finger ran gently across his lips. “Then stop resisting, because I desperately want to know what you feel like inside me.”

“One kiss might change everything between us,” he said.

“Then what are you waiting for? Come claim what rightfully belongs to you.” For once in my life, I just let go of the reins. I didn’t feel guilty about it, and I was ready to live in the moment. Tom had told me to be more spontaneous, and for once, I decided to take his advice. I wanted a big dose of swept-off-my-feet sex, and I was going to get it, no matter how much seduction and how many coats of red lipstick it took.

“Are you trying to take advantage of me?” he asked in a flirty tone.

I grabbed his shirt and pulled him close. Gazing deep into his eyes, I smiled. “Absolutely, in
every
possible way, Mr. Mailman. So...are you giving me a lift home or what?”

He leaned in so close that I could feel his hot breath on my face. “Sure. I can give you a lift. Anything else I can do to please you?”

“Take me home, and I’ll show you what makes me happy.”

“I’m so tempted, Morgan,” he said, “but—”

“I know. You won’t take a married woman home,” I whispered in his ear.

“Yeah.”

“Look, I know we said we’d wait until everything’s final, but Tom’s been gone a long time. It’s just a piece of paper, bureaucratic red tape. My ex is out of my life. He’s been out of my life for years. I haven’t been touched for so long, Foster, and I just want you inside of me this very second. Don’t make me wait another minute, not after five years.”

“Morgan, you’re...a bit tipsy.”

“Yes, and I’m begging you to take advantage of me.”

“Let me drive you home,” he said.

I wrapped my arms around his waist. “I’d rather you drive into me.”

He smiled, and the bulge in his pants let me know I was getting to him.

“You’ve been dreaming all day about fucking me, haven’t you, Foster?” I asked, upping the ante. “You’re getting hard thinking about it right now, aren’t you?”

He grinned, flashing me his movie star smile. “Is that just a line to get me naked?”

“I would advise you, sir, to proceed with caution,” I said in my sexiest voice. “I’m a little minx, ready to play on the wild side.” Raw and nasty wasn’t me either, at least without a little liquid courage. I didn’t know who I was yet, but I was ready to discover the real me, and I was more than ready to let Foster discover me to.

His finger glided over my spaghetti strap, sending shivers down my spine. “You’re getting me all worked up,” he said, “and you’re right. I
have
been thinking about you all day.”

I shot him a flirty glance.

His face lit up like a kid’s on Christmas, and he cupped my face, ever so softly. “I love when you look at me like that.”

“So, tell me, what haven’t you been told tonight?” I asked.

He cocked a brow. “Huh?”

“I mean, girls must’ve been hitting on you left and right. What haven’t they said to you?”

Foster ran his fingers down my arm, igniting a fire deep inside me. “Not the line you used on me a few seconds ago, that’s for sure.”

“I want you so damn bad,” I said.

“And as hot as you look in that dress, I wanna rip it off of you,” he said.

I shot him a seductive look. “Haven’t I been begging you to?” I was no longer concerned with my good-girl, matronly, mother-of-two image. All I could think about was going back to his place, feeling his skin against mine, tasting his mouth, tangling my tongue with his in a wicked dance, and screaming out his name in unforgettable pleasure.

“Ready to get outta here?” he whispered in my ear.

“Hell yeah! This night has been five long years in the making.” I softly kissed his lips, smiling inwardly that he’d accepted my invitation. “I thought you’d never ask. Just let me go tell my sister I’m leaving.”

“I’m here for a friend’s birthday. Let me go wish the birthday boy well, and we’ll be on our way.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

I zigzagged through the crowd and found Alexis and the others sitting a table, chugging shots and beer.

“Let’s get my sister another shot,” Alexis said in a slur.

“No. I’m good. Foster’s taking me home,” I replied. “I’m drunk enough. I mean, I just propositioned the hell outta that man!”

“You didn’t!”

I laughed. “I did. I don’t know what came over me. I’ve never been with anyone other than Tom.”

“Wait. Who are you going home with again?” one of the girls asked.

“Foster.”

“Who?” she asked. “Who is that?”

“Forrest Gump, dummy!” Alexis chimed in.

“Oh! The hot UPS guy with the big package? The one who left his fly open?”

I giggled. “Yep, that’s the one, but he’s not a UPS guy.”

She held up a drink. “It’s been a long, dry spell but here’s to my sister finally getting laid!”

They clinked their glasses and started chugging.

I met Foster outside, and he led me to his black Ford pickup. I wrapped my arms around his neck, kissed him gently on the lips, and ran my hands through his hair.

“You are so sexy,” he said.

“Speaking of sexy, I’ve got something to show you.”

“What?”

I gazed deeply into his eyes. “I’ve got a freckle on my left inner thigh.”

“Morgan! You sure do fill my head with dirty thoughts.”

“That’s the plan. I wanna make you feel good—as good as you make me feel.”

I tried to banish all my filthy fantasies about parking lot sex away, but being drunk didn’t help. I enjoyed the buzz, because it kept me from being so nervous, and I couldn’t wait to take advantage of all that beer-borne bravery.

Chapter 19

S
unlight glared through the open window, and the birds began to chirp. “Somebody please shut the curtains,” I muttered.

I opened my eyes and tried to make out the details of where I was, because I certainly wasn’t in my own bedroom. I was relieved to find that I was still fully dressed, as fully as one could be in such a skimpy black frock.

Gosh, I musta passed out. I haven’t drank like that in...wait. I’ve never drank like that
. I felt like shit. My head was pounding, and I wanted to go home to catch some real shut-eye and get over my hangover before my girls got back.

Suddenly, another big question plagued me:
Did I sleep with Foster? Damn it. Just my luck. I finally get to sleep with the guy, and I don’t remember a damn thing.

It was way to bright, so I climbed out of bed and reached for a pair of sunglasses that were lying on the dresser. With the borrowed shades on, I walked to the bathroom. I splashed cold water on my face and dried it off with a thick towel. I lifted the dark lenses and saw that my eyes were bloodshot, my mascara and eyeliner smeared all over the place, like I’d called Mike Tyson a sissy one too many times. On top of that, my hair was a hot mess, something like road kill that stuck its paw in a light socket.

Eager to get out of there as discreetly as possible, I slowly walked down the stairs, only to be greeted by prettiest blue eyes in the world. I bit my lip hard, desperately trying to remember, but not even one recollection of the night before flickered in my mind.

As I stood there, feeling stupid, it suddenly dawned on me that I was still wearing his sunglasses. I tried to take them off but it was way too bright.

“Keep ‘em,” he said.

“Thanks. I’ll give them back, I promise.” I glanced down and fumbled for words. “Um, did, we, uh... What happened exactly?”

“You don’t remember?” he asked.

“It’s all kinda fuzzy. If you could fill in the details... See, I don’t usually do this sort of thing.”

“What’s the matter, little minx? Are you worried we played on the wild side?” he teased.

I slapped my forehead, completely mortified. “Oh no. Please don’t tell me I said anything that lame.” I blew out a long breath. “Listen, I’ve gotta go. I feel like an idiot. I drank so much, and I have no idea what I said or what we did or... I can’t even remember if we had sex. If we did, I guess I missed out on the greatest night of my life.”

“You didn’t miss anything,” he assured me. “You passed out in the truck before we even got home. I carried you to my bed and took only your shoes off. I slept down here, on the couch.”

“I’m so sorry about all this, Foster. I’m going through a hard time in my life, and I’m not really much of a drinker. I vaguely remember it, and I know I was pretty, uh...straightforward with you. I propositioned you.”

“It was mutual.”

“I’m so embarrassed. I know I said a lot of raunchy things, and I apologize profusely.”

He didn’t seem bothered by it and told me I’d been through a lot and deserved to have a night out. I was thankful he was so understanding, because I didn’t want to make the wrong impression. If I would’ve lost him over my dumb antics, I never would have forgiven myself.

He motioned me to the kitchen. “I made you something,” He said, handing me a glass of some sort of green slime.

I made a face. “You want me to drink this? All of it?”

“Every single drop. It’s the perfect hangover cure.”

“What is it? Please don’t tell me there are raw eggs in here.”

He touched my back. “Just trust me. This antidote works on all my hung-over friends.”

“You’re right. Maybe it’s best if I don’t know what’s in this nasty witch’s brew. If it’s a miracle cure, I’m all over it. My head feels like hippos are dancing the lambada in it.”

He laughed. “It looks like hell, but the important thing is that it works.”

Following his advice, I chugged it down like a frat boy, mostly because I couldn’t bear the thought of sipping on the gross concoction.

“You’ll feel much better soon,” he insisted.

“Great.”

“Let me get my keys, and I’ll drive you home.”

fter Foster dropped me off, I went straight to bed and didn’t get up until after dinner. When I awoke and walked into the kitchen, my sister smiled.

“How was it?” she asked.

“Nothing happened. I passed out.”

“Really? After coming on to him so strong? Poor guy.”

“Yes. I made a complete fool out of myself. I’m such an idiot.”

“Who knew he was even going to be there?”

“He was at a friend’s birthday party. Why’d you let me drink so much?” I asked.

“Because I was trying to get your mind off of Tom. I thought if you let go of your inhibitions, you might get lucky.”

A knock sounded at the door. Boy, did that make my head throb.

“Come in!” Alexis yelled.

I wasn’t ready to let our conversation die so easily. “What if I had let some serial killer take my drunk butt home?” I continued.

“I know most of those guys there, and your mailman’s a nice guy. The bartender knows him, grew up with him. I was sure you were in good hands.”

“It doesn’t matter now. He’s never gonna call me again. I think I scared him off. I told him I was a hot mink or something like that, totally lame.”

“Oh my gosh. Minx, you mean? You used Lori’s crappy line?”

“Yeah. It seemed to fit at the moment. I mean, he seemed okay about it, but I just don’t know. I’m an idiot. I said some seriously dirty stuff to him last night.”

“It’s okay.”

“No it isn’t. Gosh, why can’t life be easy? This sucks. It sucked being married to Tom, too, but at least that was simple.”

“Life isn’t meant to be easy. Trust me,” she said. “He won’t hold it against you. Guys love that kind of stuff. Besides, it isn’t like you’re a lush or something. You never drink.”

“He doesn’t know that. I told him that, but he doesn’t have to believe me.” Slapping my head in embarrassment, I plopped down at the kitchen table. “I don’t need a man to make me happy. I’ll be spared all those awkward dates, having to worry about what to wear or what to say. I can be happy just raising my children.”

“Hi, guys,” Juliet said as she breezed in.

“Hey,” I said.

“You might not need a man,” she said, obviously having overheard our conversation, “but I do. Help me get back together with Kyle.”

My sister laughed as she walked out of the kitchen. “Good luck with that one.”

Juliet placed her hands on her hips. “Is it hopeless?”

“He’s your best friend and one of the biggest players on campus. Why do you even wanna mess with him?”

“Because I can’t stop thinking about him.”

“It’d be like dating Kyle. He’s a womanizer, and we all know to stay away from him.”

“Kyle is not a dog, Morgan. Yes, he goes through girls quickly, but that’s only because he hasn’t found what he’s looking for.”

“Why? Because, deep down, he’s waiting for you?”

“Yeah. Why not?”

“Dating your best friend is a bad idea.”

“We dated for a little while in high school, and it wasn’t so bad. Sure, it was short-lived, but I’ll never forget that kiss.”

“You’re heading down a slippery slope, girlfriend. You guys are at a good place. You talk about everything, and he trusts you more than anyone. If you date and break up, all that will go to hell. You’ll lose that special relationship you have now. You won’t be able to go back, especially if it ends badly.”

“What if I stay friends with him and years pass by? I’ll always wonder what might have been. I’ll always regret not trying.”

“It’s a gamble, no doubt.”

She grinned. “So, anyway, tell me about your night with Mr. Wonderful.”

I went on to tell her the whole embarrassing story, and she assured me that everything would be okay.

“Hey, your dreamboat’s here,” Alexis announced to Juliet as she walk back into the kitchen.

Kyle walked in and smiled at me. “I heard you got trashed last night and were talking up some guy. Tom’s on the war path.”

“So? I’m his soon-to-be ex-wife, and I’ll talk to whomever I want.”

“You’d better tell him that. He’s blowing his stack over you dating one of the college guys.”

“He’s got it all wrong. I would never date any guy from campus, especially since my ex is a professor. I was talking to the mailman, and we were engaged in, uh...a very serious debate.”

“A debate about what?”

I cleared my throat. “He asked me why women care about penis size, when about 75 percent can only get off from clitoral stimulation anyway. He wanted to know if he should rub it or if I would.”
