Well played
.

T
he Alpha
gave me an
approving
nod
as he leaned forward. I didn

t know what he was doing until he reached out and stroked my hair.

You will make a wonderful Alpha Bitch.

What?

I snarled, smacking his hand away.

What are you playing at now?

I

m stating my intent to make you my mate, Sera,

he answered in what I guessed he thought was his best seductive voice. It was sorely lacking. All that tone made me want to do was vomit.

You can have all the intentions you want, Alpha, but I

m no one

s bitch
,
and we will never, ever be an item.

I made sure my contempt at the idea was crystal clear in my voice.

We shall see, pup
.

H
e chuckled, reaching to touch me again. I batted his hand away, moving fast enough that I saw the shock on his face
before he recovered
.

You will be mine.

Over my dead body,

I growled, my wolf suddenly riding me hard. We might not always agree since my wolf showed up, but on this we were very much on the same page. Death was preferable to being this man

s mate.

That can be arranged since there

s no way you can beat me in a challenge.

He narrowed his eyes.

And I

d watch your tone. I am your Alpha.

Then he gave me that cocky smile again.

I will enjoy beating you until you learn your place.

You

re my nothing. And there

s no way in hell I

m going to fight you for the rights to my own body. You just threatened a federal agent with rape and violence.

I stood and waved toward the two way mirrors that I knew my team was behind.

Joseph Engle, I

m placing you under—

Chief Monroe walked in, interrupting my arrest. I raised an eyebrow
,
but he ignored me
, the expression on his face giving me nothing to go by
,
and focused on the Alpha.

There

s no need for that, Sera. Wh
y
don

t you fetch us some coffee while I talk to Alpha Engle
?
Obviously your hormones are getting in the way.

What?

I seethed, my hands curling into fists as I shook with the need to change. My wolf wanted to tear my
boss

s
throat out at the blatant disrespect.

Learn your place,

he snapped, giving me a wink with his right eye so only I would see it.

Get your superiors some coffee, Sera. Dismissed.

I realized what he was doing
,
and I didn

t fucking like it. If he wanted to play good cop to my seemingly bad cop, that was one thing, but this wasn

t the way. I took one look at Joseph Engle

s smug grin and stormed out of there, pushing my boss aside
with my shoulder
in the process before slamming the door. Fuck him. He shouldn

t have disrespected me just to get
camaraderie
with the asshole Alpha. Engle wasn

t even a suspect and I had to be around him again after this.

And I wasn

t getting their damn coffee.

I moved into the little viewing room so I could see and hear what was going on. The only ones brave enough to not run were Harris and Jennings. And Jennings looked like he wanted to
from the apprehensive look he gave me when I entered,
but he had to be there to record everything.

Pups can be so impetuous
,

Chief Monroe chuckled as he sat in my vacated seat.

So stuck on how humans do things when they are no longer human.

Yes, I can

t imagine the effort you have to expend
reining
that one in.

Engle looked leery but seemed willing to play the game and see if Monroe was really on his side or not.

You know the Chief—

Harris started to say to me quietly.

I know. That doesn

t mean it

s right or I have to fucking like it
,

I snapped. I didn

t want to hear
any
defending of Monroe right then.

She

s great at her job and a natural leader. Her team would jump in front of a bus for her. I know that was so before she was made a shifter
,
but her wolf seems to only have improved the quality.

What game was he playing by telling Engle this instead of questioning him?

I noticed that when she came out for the full moon
,

Engle agreed with a nod.

She smells of Alpha.

She does.

I saw the twinkle in Monroe

s eyes and knew there was something I was missing.

You better make her Alpha Bitch before she tries to directly challenge you. I mean, it

s not like her power is her only feature. I

ve thought a few times about showing her who

s boss and taking her to my bed.

She is a tasty treat
.

Engle chuckled. I was breathing heav
il
y with rage
and I could feel my heart rate quickening
. This was only getting worse
,
and my wolf was just as pissed as I was.

Sera, calm down,

Harris begged as I moved pas
t
him.

Don

t do this. You know Monroe doesn

t mean it.

Do I?

I snarled, sounding more wolf than woman
as I glared at him
.

I think the fight in her will make for interesting bed play. I mean, could you imagine her chained down for your domination?

Engle continued.

Oh, if you do
that
I want to see
it
,

Monroe groaned.

I didn

t even realize I had left the viewing room until I was at the door of the interview
room
. I pulled the handle so hard I ripped the door of the hinges.

Enough of this!

I roared and dropped the door as I stepped into the room.

Learn your place, bitch,

Monroe snarled as he jumped to his feet. He was closer to the door than Engle and that ended up being bad for him. I did something I never thought I

d do in all my years at the FBI. I hit my boss. I just pulled my arm back and let him have it, distantly noticing my hands had already shifted into claws along with my teeth elongating.

I smiled as I heard the breaking of several bones in his face, including his nose.

I am
no one

s
bitch
.

I looked over to Engle
.

Y
ou are not dominant to me
,
and I will never submit to you.

You cannot beat me in a fight. You will be my Alpha Bitch, Seraphine.

I am no one

s
bitch
!

I howled. And for the first time I didn

t hold back any of my wolf aura for fear
of
showing my cards. I
wanted
them to see how powerful I was. I felt it pulse in me as I breathed, building and growing until it was too much for my body to contain.

It shot out from me in waves, almost like I was an EMP device. The air shifted in the room and the windows rattled. Monroe and Engle were thrown into the walls as I reveled in the feeling of the power. God, it was
all-
consuming and glorious, the feeling of freedom
to
finally stop hiding. When it was over and I

d
decided I

d put them in their place, I reeled it back in.

My wolf smiled as she retreated to whatever mental corner she normally resided in. She liked that we put the bastard men in their places. It felt good. I opened my eyes to see that Monroe was scared. I gasped when I realized Engle had shifted into his wolf… And he was looking at me like I was dinner. Or more accurately, as if I was pure sex standing in front of him.

Shit on a stick.

Didn

t I just say—

I jumped when there was a crash and the window cracked as it shook.
Remington
was on the other side, shook his head, and rammed it with his shoulder. I didn

t even have time to ask w
hat
the fuck was going on. Monroe leapt to his feet and raced across the room, grabbing my arm.

He dragged me out of the room and down the hall. I couldn

t get my feet to work when I saw the chaos around me. Every shifter in the building had changed into their animal. The vampires had fangs out and everyone, and I mean
everyone
,
was staring at me with the same look Engle had.

Chief?

I asked, shaking with fear. What was going on? He shook his head and kept us moving until we were past the main doors and in the lobby. He quickly shut them and held on. A cheetah smacked against them and I jumped back. Harris
,
too? He didn

t even step back
.
H
e just kept smashing his body into the door and window in it over and over again. He wasn

t the only one either
and the sounds of bodies smashing against the hard surface echoed throughout the lobby.

Run, Sera,

Chief Monroe
ordered as he shook from the force of the hits, his body braced against the doors. The only thing that kept them all in.

What

s happening?

I asked, taking a few scared steps toward the door.

Sera!

h
e shouted and I focused them.

Run. Don

t stop for anything. Just keep running until you

re at least a few miles from here. Go home and lock yourself in your house. Don

t shift. I

ll be there as soon as I can.

Okay.

I nodded and felt
around in
my pockets, cursing when I came up empty
of
keys. The Chief reached in his and tossed me his car keys.
