Gas is cleaner and cheaper than oil (which has to be delivered — it just seems so milkman ancient). Making the switch over is tricky business, though, so make sure you know what you're doing. Gas might burn cleaner, but neither gas nor oil is something people want leaking.

Put timers on lights, replace old bulbs with energy-efficient ones, and counsel people on their electronics use. For example, does that DVD player need to be plugged in and ready to go 24/7? I thought not.

This is great for people who purchased a “fixer-upper” and aren't so much into the “fixing” aspect, especially when it comes to the wiring. All those high-tech gadgets need to be charged somewhere, even in extremely old houses that were built before the dawn of the iPod.
