INTRODUCTION

I’m so excited that you have this book. I believe you will read words of truth in the next pages that will change your life. Each chapter is bathed in prayer and full of the scriptures.
“The Word of God is alive and powerful”
(Hebrew 4:12).

You will probably be angry with me in just a few pages but in a few more you may love me (again). We all believe we need to change to be like Jesus. None of us are there, we have not arrived, we are all on our way to God’s perfect will; but change does not come easy. Renewal is a process of awareness, repentance, growing and changing. When we are
“transformed by the renewing of our mind”
(Romans 12:2), we find God’s “perfect will.” But talking about it, believing in it and actually doing it will set us apart.

I hope to inspire, inform and encourage you to renewal. To overcome the things that have kept you from your best life and lift you to God’s plan for your future. God’s thoughts toward you are good, He sees a bright future for you (Jeremiah 29:11). As you walk with Him and experience renewal you will enter that blessed life.

Each chapter will help you understand why certain things have happened in your life and how to get through them. I’m praying that the power of God’s Word will take you through and the truth will make you free.

Not only is the Word the foundation and a rock that will never fail, I am sharing with you truths that I have used and am using now. This stuff works. We are
“predestined to be conformed to the image of Jesus”
(Romans 8:29). We aren’t there yet, so let’s keep renewing our mind and our life.

Proverbs tell us
“For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he”
(Proverbs 23:7). If you can change one thought or belief you can change your life. It’s the things that seem insignificant that get us to the place in life we are now. To get to a new place will take new thoughts. You can do it. The renewed mind brings about your unlimited life.

FIRST STEPS TO CHANGE

As a born-again believer, you can only become all God has designed you to be by becoming
renewed in the knowledge of God.
Maturity, success, and enjoyment as a Christian will only come as you are renewed in knowledge after the image of the One who created you.

Spiritually, you become a new person the moment you are born again, and then the process begins. You must learn to set your mind on things above -- on the principles of God, found in His Word. Setting your mind on things above does not mean we should be thinking about heaven all day long. He wants us to set our minds on the principles, on the way of thinking, and on the spiritual thoughts that come from heaven.

We will fail to become successful, fulfilled, and overcoming Christians if we never begin the process of renewing our minds in the knowledge of God. If we fail to take off the old man - the old habits of our carnal nature and put away that old lifestyle -and put on the new man, who is created in the image and likeness of God, we will never reach the highest level of living God desires for us. Imagine altering your spiritual eternity but never altering your earthly existence because you were unwilling to change your thoughts! God wants more for His children and He makes it easy if we are willing.

In Colossians, chapter 3, Paul talks about setting our minds on “things above” once we are born again:

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:1-3

Paul is saying, “If you are born again, the next step is to set your mind in the right place.” If you are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above and set your mind on them -- not on the things of the earth.

When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Therefore
[because you are a Christian and you are “in Christ”]
put to death your members that are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion,
evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, and filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but
Christ is all and in all.

Colossians 3:4-11

Once you are born of God, the knowledge that you live by (or where you set your mind) is the key to every aspect of your life. As a Christian, the success or failure, fulfillment or lack of fulfillment, enjoyment or lack of enjoyment, blessing or lack of blessing you experience, is dependent upon
where you set your mind
- whether you are renewed in the knowledge of God or not. I hope at this point you are beginning to understand the importance of your thoughts.

God created man with two exclusively human, very powerful tools: a sovereign will and the ability to think through the processes of life. If we don’t use our will and our mental ability properly, we will not rise to the level of life that God created for us to enjoy. God will not determine our will or use our mental ability for us. He created us in His likeness and image, with the freedom to make the necessary choices to create our own individual lives.

If you were a monkey, He would have put within you the instincts that would control your life, and you wouldn’t have any choices to make outside of those instinctual barriers. If you were a dog, God would have programmed you to do what He wanted you to do. If you were a bird, when the right time came, you would head south whether you ever thought about it or not. But, the good news is, you are not an animal!

No matter how hard scientists work to prove that we are part of the animal kingdom, they will never find the missing link. We were created in the likeness and image of God, with an open mind, the ability to choose, and the ability to think. We must use these predisposed rights biblically, so that we will find our place in God where our life will satisfy and fulfill us.
