On the third wall, was a calendar. The date squares were blank except for one which had been highlighted by a border drawn in thick black marker. In the square, someone had written two letters in the same black marker: JG.

My initials.

The date was one week from today.

I explored the building from top to bottom for the next hour, but I found nothing else of interest. Whoever I’d heard earlier had obviously made their escape. Once I was back outside, I took a few moments to try to take in everything I’d seen. Someone was following me, and it was obvious that
that someone
planned to do me harm. But at least now, I could be on my guard because I knew precisely when they planned to strike. The problem was I still didn’t know how.
