Uh-uh, she wasn’t going there. Shaking her head to clear her mind, she paid attention to what they were doing so they could finish up and start their day.

Chapter Six

Walking back up to Kara’s house at eleven o’clock that morning,
Austin
knew what had been on her mind after breakfast. He’d seen the look of desire in her eyes, along with a bit of wariness. Getting up to help her clean the kitchen hadn’t been a fluke. He wanted her to see him as someone who could be domesticated. He wasn’t sure why he wanted to show her that side of him, but he knew that it was important at the time.

Remembering how they said good-bye this morning, a smile came to his face. Once showers had been taken and teeth brushed, Kara had walked him to the door, and they stood there holding each other for about twenty minutes. He was repeatedly nibbling her ear, neck, and lips while rubbing her hips and ass at the same time.

When she turned her head to kiss him, he couldn’t help but want to go back upstairs and make love to her again. Wait, make love? Wasn’t this just sex to him, just like it always was? Thinking back to how he hadn’t wanted to let her go this morning, he knew it was more than just sex. He wanted this woman in his life for a very long time.

Ringing her doorbell, he waited impatiently for her to open the door. He heard footsteps and was prepared to give her a huge kiss, when the door swung open and a guy was on the other side.

What the fuck? He stepped back and looked at the front of the house to make sure he didn’t go to the wrong place. Confirming that he was at the right house, he looked at the guy again and didn’t like what he saw. He looked a little too fucking comfortable standing in the door of his woman’s house.
Whoa,
Austin
,
his mind screamed. His woman?

Hell the fuck yeah. Mine!

Then the son of a bitch had the nerve to open his mouth. “Yeah, man? You gonna stand there all day? You want something?”

He needed to control his temper before he said something he’d regret. This wasn’t the time to jump to conclusions. “I’m here for Kara. Is she here?”

“Yeah, she’s upstairs changing. Who are you?”

“Why?”

“Because if you don’t tell me who you are, you’ll be standing on the front porch with a closed door in your face. Listen, I don’t know you, man, but you can’t come to this house and start asking questions.”

“Just tell me where Kara is.”

“I’m right here.
Bryan
, please stop. You need to cut that out.” Laughing, she punched him in the arm, and he moved out of the way with a grin on his face. “
Austin
, this is one of my best friends in the whole wide world, when he’s not acting like my big brother. Bryan Green, meet Austin Delaney, and vice versa.”

Grudgingly accepting the hand
Bryan
extended,
Austin
realized the dude had a smirk on his face. He was laughing at him! Who the fuck was he to laugh at him? Giving a terse “Nice to meet you,”
Austin
pulled his hand away from
Bryan
and looked over to Kara. “Are you ready to go?”

“Sure, I have everything with me.
Bryan
, lock up when you finish upstairs. I’ll call you later.” When Kara stood on her toes to give
Bryan
a kiss,
Austin
saw red. He was like a bull with a matador, and Mr. Bryan Green seemed to be just looking for a fight.

He turned from the two of them and began walking down the sidewalk when he realized what he was doing. Not the type to walk away from a woman this way, even if he was upset, Austin paused to turn around and wait for Kara to catch up.

Once they were in his truck and on their way, he noticed her glancing at him, but didn’t trust himself to speak. Hearing her sigh and seeing her turn away from him, he knew he had to get a grip. Unfortunately, the words tumbled out of his mouth before he could stuff them back down his throat.

“So, he’s one of your best friends? Why was he there this morning?”

“He wanted to come and fix the ceiling fan in my bedroom. He’d been promising to do it for a while now, but he’s usually too busy on the weekends.”

“You say he’s your friend, but he looked very comfortable in your home. Is there something more you’re not telling me?”

“What are you asking me, Austin? Listen, I told you we were just friends, nothing more, so you should just drop it.”

Sighing, he knew she was right, but that didn’t mean he had to like it. “Listen, I only have a few more hours before I have to leave. I won’t bring it up again. Let’s just have fun, okay?”

She agreed and began giving him directions to where they were going. Not being very familiar with
Washington
,
DC
, he was surprised when they pulled up to the gates of the National Zoo.

“This is your favorite place? This is where you wanted to bring me?”

“Yeah, I love this place. Trust me, you’ll have a great time.”

Kara was exhausted. Walking around the National Zoo with a man as fit as Austin Delaney had not been the smartest of ideas. He was like a machine. Not tiring one bit, she quickly realized that letting
Austin
loose in the zoo was like letting a kid loose in a toy store. They had to see the reptiles, the elephants, the lions, panda bears, and the monkeys, of course.

When they first walked in, he had tried to resist the lure of the place, but just couldn’t. The excitement built in him, and she could see by the expression on his face that he loved every minute of this. If she never saw him again, this would be a memory she would treasure.

She had been shocked earlier when
Austin
became so upset when
Bryan
answered the door.
Bryan
was like her big brother, and Kara really liked his girlfriend, Janice. They were a good couple, and Janice never tried to interfere in their friendship. For that reason alone, she was good people.

Looking at the clock, Kara realized that the time had come to say good-bye to
Austin
. This weekend had been fun, and she had enjoyed the time spent with him. She would always remember her first night at a country bar when she met her very own cowboy. Looking out the window as they sped to her house, she wondered what he was thinking. Would he remember this weekend with her? Would he ever want to visit again and take her out or spend the weekend with her?

Those kinds of thoughts would do no good. Plus, her career was too important to her right now, and so it was probably best that he leave now while things were so good. She had no doubts that she was hard to deal with on a long-term basis, so short and sweet was sometimes best.

As they pulled into her drive, she waited for him to say something more. When he just sat there with his hands on the wheel, she tried to put him out of his misery. When she opened her mouth to speak, he beat her to the punch.

“That was amazing. I never would have gone to the zoo on my own. Actually, I haven’t been to the zoo since I was in the third grade. Do you know how incredible you are?”

“I’m glad you liked it. Going to the zoo is my favorite thing to do when I just want to relax and enjoy a fun day.”

He looked at her, and she began to squirm in her seat. He was giving her a look so filled with passion, and something else she couldn’t name.

“Kara, I know I need to head back to
Norfolk
, but I’d like to stay with you for the night. I’m not ready for this weekend to end.”

“I don’t want it to end either. But what happens after tonight? Do we go our separate ways and never see each other again?” Giving a self-deprecating laugh, she admitted to herself how adult she was being about the whole thing. “Listen,
Austin
, we don’t owe each other anything beyond tonight. We’re two adults who were attracted to each other and met at a time when this is all we were able to give. You’ll go back to
Norfolk
, and I’ll be just a fond memory.” Why did that thought suddenly cause her stomach to turn topsy-turvy? “Let’s go in and say good-bye properly,
Austin
. It’s okay, I think it’s time.”

Standing in her room watching her undress for him,
Austin
knew he wouldn’t be able to walk away from her and never look back. She had shown him her sex kitten side, her playful side, and her understanding side as well. In less than two days, he had come to know Kara so well, he knew she would never be just a fond memory for him. Staying away from her wasn’t an option.

“Hey, baby, you gonna stay over there all night?” He watched Kara pull her bottom lip into her mouth and hitch her hip to the side. At that moment, he knew he was lost.

Walking over to her, he grabbed her hips with his hands and pulled her lower body flush with his. He still had on his jeans, so the material made rasping sounds as he rotated his hips. Dropping his head down, he took her lips in a scorching kiss, trying to express all of his feelings with that one act. His hands began roaming over her firm ass just as she wrapped her arms around his neck and her hands began playing with his hair.

It felt so good. No one ever treated him with such gentleness. Everyone expected him to want the rough and tumble, hard, driving sex, but it felt good to feel Kara’s soft hands rubbing him so affectionately. Deciding to take control of the situation again, he backed her up against the bed and sat her down on the edge.

Dropping down to his knees in front of her, he spread her knees and moved in closer. “Kara, I’m going to taste you. When I taste you, you cannot touch me, you cannot speak, and you cannot—in no uncertain terms—finish until I tell you to. All you can do is sit there and enjoy it. Understand?”

“Yes, but . . .”

“It’s only yes or no, Kara. Do you understand?”
