MICHAEL

“Before we go out tonight, I want to stop by my assistant’s house. Today’s her birthday and she’s having a party. We won’t stay long, but I want to pop in. She means a great deal to me,” I said. She immediately gave me a pout. I rolled my eyes at my date, regretting bringing her. She had way too much perfume on and it was choking me, bringing up a past that I’d rather not relive.

“Fine. But you are taking me somewhere nice afterward, right?” Brandi asked with worry and distaste. I fucked up on this one. I'd have been better off going alone. Instead, I brought along a bitchy ditz.

To shut her up, I replied, “Of course. You think I am going to take my date to a boring birthday party for my assistant?” Just then the door opened, and my mouth hung down in surprise.

Heaven help me. The woman who answered the door was an extremely beautiful and angry goddess. I’d never seen someone so attractive. Instantly, I was fighting a massive erection. Fuck, not good, I didn’t want to give the airhead next to me the idea that this hard-on was for her; it was for the beauty in front of me.

“Welcome to the boring party. You must be Mr. Vitale, and you brought your Barbie doll—so cute. I’ll tell my aunt you have arrived. She was hoping you would show.” The fire burned in her green eyes as she glared at me. She had my boy standing eagerly, waiting to be petted. I hadn’t had that feeling in forever. The dark haired beauty turned from me, pissed to no end, and I hoped I could fix it later. Damn, how I wished I could bite my own tongue. What a fucking idiot! She walked away from us in search of her aunt, or to get away from us. I wasn’t sure, but fuck, watching her walk away was a special treat.

We walked into the nice home my assistant shared with her husband. I didn’t touch Brandi as we entered because I didn’t want her to get the feeling that it was going well between us.

“Welcome, Michael!” shouted a giddy woman who looked a lot like my personal assistant.

“Madeline, Happy Birthday! Have you been drinking?” I’d never seen my straight laced PA as anything other than motherly and professional. This was a change. The woman was a powerhouse in the office and lately a bit of a nag, but I’d never seen her so carefree. I gave my mother’s newest ally a peck on the cheek.

“Just a bit…It’s only once a girl turns sixty. Ah, who is this lovely lady you brought along?” I could tell that she didn’t like my date right off the bat with the sarcastic tone and fake smile she wore.

“This is my date, Brandi. Brandi, this is my normally demure PA, Mrs. Madeline Cain.” I laughed as I thought about how bubbly Madeline was, but how stone faced she turned when addressing Brandi. I couldn’t blame her; I didn’t like her either.

Madeline nodded at Brandi with little acknowledgement besides muttering, “Pleasure to meet you.”

“So, are there any more drinks with liquor in them?” Brandi asked, condescendingly. She looked around with a clear expression of smelling shit on her face.

“Yes, the drinks are over at that table. Help yourself,” Madeline replied, bitingly.

I was thinking about the little angry vixen from the door, mindlessly hearing Madeline and Brandi’s conversation but not paying attention to it.

“Nice try, but it’s not going to stop me,” Madeline whispered in my ear. She didn’t know when to quit. I had to smile, I’d been caught. She knew why I brought Brandi with me. With her hounding me every day to find a wife, I needed backup. Damn it. Nothing got past her.

“I am sorry, what were you saying? Did I miss something?” I asked, trying to bullshit her, while looking for the angry miss that ran away from me.

“Yes, Michael, your date is upset that you didn’t offer to get her a drink. What’s on your mind?” Her tone suggested she knew exactly what was on my mind; her eyes followed mine.

I wanted to get her off my ass. I wanted to fuck the bombshell at the door, but I needed to know who exactly she was first and if she was available. “She’ll get over it. Nothing’s on my mind except this place is packed. How many people are here? It looks like you are very popular. Are these people all family, or are there a lot of friends?”

“Mostly friends, my family is not that large. You did meet my niece Sarah at the door. Although something pissed her off,” she said with a growing suspicion, giving me a look and waiting for an explanation.

“She overheard what I said and didn’t mean, but…” Brandi sauntered up to us like she was on a catwalk before I could finish explaining. I would apologize to Maddie later. I didn’t owe Sarah an explanation or an apology, but for some reason I wanted to find her and give her one. There were a lot of things I wanted to give her, but that would have to wait. My cock stiffened again just thinking about taking her in my bed. I’d better calm him down before everyone could tell what was really on my mind.

I spent the rest of the hour looking for my missing, angry vixen. Brandi was at her breaking point. Despite the fact that I was here with a date, it didn’t stop my PA from introducing me to a whole caravan of possible Mrs. Vitales. I didn’t care to meet any of them. I was looking for my missing girl. Madeline hadn’t formally introduced her to me, but I remembered her talking about Sarah before. Damn, had I known this was the Sarah she’d been trying to get me to meet before, I would’ve jumped on that shit years ago. I missed out big time. “Mikey, this is stupid. If I have to meet one more woman your assistant is trying to pawn off on you, I am going to scream.”

“Calm yourself down. I don’t need your shit right now. Behave.” I wanted to tell her to get gone, but I couldn’t be a total prick. But if she really wanted to leave, I wouldn’t stop her stupid ass.

“I am sorry. Aren’t we supposed to go on our date now? I have an early photo shoot tomorrow.” Brandi didn’t realize she just shot herself in the foot with that one. Good, now I had an excuse for not stopping in tonight when I dropped her off.

“That’s fine, we will be leaving soon. I will take you to dinner and get you home in time to get your beauty sleep.”

“She needs it,” I heard from the voice that was haunting me for the past hour. I turned to look at her and tried to not laugh at her nasty comment. Then I saw a fuck that wanted his arm torn off. He had his hand around her waist, then slid it down her ass. He noticed where my eyes went and decided to stake his claim. Fucking prick! If I was who I was before, he’d be a dead fucker already, but I was raised to act like I had some class.

“Michael, this is my niece, Sarah Owen. Sarah, this is Michael Vitale and his date Barbie, although I believe you met at the door.” Madeline purposefully messed up Brandi’s name, and I didn’t correct her. I didn’t care if she’s my date or not. I’d regretted bringing her before I opened the car door for her.

“You’re Madeline’s boss, right? I am Jason Andrews, Sarah’s boyfriend.” I wasn’t shaking that fucker’s hand. I kept staring at Sarah with a million thoughts racing through my mind, but all I could get out was, “You have a boyfriend?”

“Yes, she does,” he snarled at me.

SARAH

I heard the doorbell and wondered who else could be coming. The house was already crowded with friends and family. I opened the door to find the most handsome man I’d ever seen insulting my aunt. Did all men that look like him truly have to be assholes? My aunt had always spoken so highly of Michael Vitale, but I always thought her opinion of him was clouded by the motherly love she felt towards him. My aunt also said the man was gorgeous, but that was an understatement. He was well over six feet tall with jet black hair and piercing gray eyes. His suit clung to his body like it was made just for him, and it probably was, the rich, arrogant prick. She sang his praises about all the charity work. Always doing good deeds, I didn’t buy that shit for nothing. He probably just did them to get a benefit in tax breaks or to look good to his clients. Jackass.

My boyfriend had decided to attach himself to me just as I spotted Michael Vitale. I avoided him throughout the entire party, ducking and diving when he got close to running into me, but a big part of me wanted to see him again. Finally, I caved to the urge and didn’t hide when my aunt approached with him and his whore in tow.

It didn’t take long for a pissing contest to take place between Jason and Michael. I watched the scene and didn’t like it one bit. Jason was acting like I meant something to him when just a little while ago he threatened to dump me because I’m getting, as he put it, “too heavy.” What a prick.

“Mr. Vitale, I thought you said you were leaving this boring party?” I’d been upset by his comment and decided to throw it in his face. I didn’t know why I was so offended. He hadn’t said that in public, but he had said it to his tramp. Something about her made me want to punch her in the face and rip her pretty fake blonde hair out.

“Jason’s girlfriend is right; we should be leaving. We have a date. It was a pleasure to meet you, Madeline. Nice to meet you, Jason.” God, was she flirting with Jason, too? Damn it, I was about to knock this bitch out.

“So, you are the one I have heard a lot about. Your aunt here tells me you are getting your MBA. Sarah, when you finish school, please come see me. I can get you a job,” Michael blurted out, ignoring his bimbo. I was tempted to take him up on the offer just so I could see him every day, but then again, I might want to kill him by the end of the first week.

Jason tugged me tighter to him, like he was afraid Michael was trying to steal me. “If she wants a job, my father will give her one, but once she’s my wife, she won’t have to work.” My temper was about to blow. How dare he do something like that?

“The both of you need to know that I am capable of finding my own job, so drop it.” Did I look like a helpless charity case or was he trying to make up for his insult? Between his words earlier and the unknown reaction I was having to Captain Arrogant here, I didn’t want to be with Jason anymore. There was something about Jason that I just noticed was seriously lacking. Had he always been a douche or was I just seeing him clearly now? My best friend Stacy and Aunt Madeline always told me to lose him, but I didn’t. It was just because I had grown comfortable and hadn’t needed to work at the relationship that I hadn’t left already, but he was making me think I was better off alone.

“You two are getting married? Aren’t you a bit too young to be getting married to your high school boyfriend?” Holy fuck, I might just strangle this asshole. Who the hell did he think he was?

“Gramps, I am twenty-four years old, so I am old enough to make my own decisions. Aren’t you a little too old to be a bachelor?” I snarled back pettily, hating that there had probably been hundreds of women that graced his bed.

“Gramps! I am only thirty-three, little girl, and maybe I haven’t found the right woman to marry.” So typical—young, handsome, and dating a total bimbo. I didn’t know why his dating preference bothered me, but it did.

“I don’t have time for someone who dates sticks with too much perfume and makeup to give me a lecture on marriage. Excuse me.” Fucking asshole. Really, what a jerk. I left the group and let them talk. I’d had enough. I hustled into the kitchen to see if my cousin Kate needed any help. I stayed away from the party until my aunt came to tell me that Michael left.

MICHAEL

“Brandi, we are leaving. Madeline, I’ll see you in the office on Monday.” I kissed Madeline on the cheek and left with Brandi trailing behind me. There was a riot of emotions filling up my chest. When that fuck said they were getting married, all I thought about was punching him and carrying sexy Sarah out of here over my shoulder, caveman style, because that was what that girl did to me. She took away my common sense.

“Michael, what has gotten into you? We were supposed to be on a date, and you hit on the poor fat girl,” Brandi sniped.

My eyes opened wide, and I let out a growl. “She is not fat. She is sexy as hell, and Brandi, I am sorry, but this isn’t going to work. I will take you to dinner if you like, but that is going to be it.”

“I can’t believe this. You are going to let this go?” she screeched, pointing to her body, like it was some fucking treasure. “She has a boyfriend and is nothing compared to me.” Then she stomped to the car. All she was doing was showing me that she wasn’t worth the effort of a roll in the sack.

“Brandi, please act like an adult. Do you still want to go out to dinner?” I was hoping to high hell that she was going to say hell no, but nope, I wasn’t that fortunate. This day was getting worse and worse by the moment.

I took her to dinner, and the whole time she tried to convince me that we were meant to be. By the end of the night, I had a pounding headache from putting up with Brandi and thinking about Sarah and her boy fucking each other. She was going to be mine. I just needed a game plan.
