The long log cabin contained five interconnecting dwellings, each with a set of steps leading down from the porch. Dawn went back into her room and put her clothes away, then tried the connecting door leading to Sally’s room. She went through only to find the door between Sally’s and Jen’s rooms was already open wide.
“Don’t start without me!” Dawn leapt onto the bed and jostled for space with the other four women who had already popped the cork on a bottle of champagne. She took the glass Ruth offered her and raised a toast.
“Here’s to giving Jen a week she’ll never forget.”
“It’s gonna be a wild ride!” Julie drained her glass and held it out so Ruth could fill it again.
“Talking of wild, have you
seen
the guys working here? Oh my God. Too. Damn. Sexy!” Dawn fanned her face, only slightly joking about how hot under the collar she was.
“I know, right,” Julie said, high-fiving Dawn. “If I knew the guys here looked like that, I’d have come here much sooner.”
“Amen to that.” Ruth clinked glasses with Jeanette, then drained hers, too.
Sally sipped at her champagne, looking self-conscious as always as she smoothed down the auburn hair she kept constantly tied back from her face and did her best to relax. Dawn knew she’d be fine after a few more drinks. It wasn’t Sally she was worried about. It was Jen.
“Hey, drink up.” Dawn gestured at the glass Jeanette had put on the bedside table without touching it.
“I’ll have a drink later. It’s a bit early for me.” Jen smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. Her gaze darted to her phone for what seemed like the millionth time since they’d set of that morning, no doubt checking to make sure she hadn’t missed a call from Alan.
It hurt Dawn to see her usually witty and carefree friend gradually turning into a nervous wreck.
Jen was drop dead gorgeous with skin the color of Halle Berry’s and the body of Naomi Campbell, although she wasn’t anywhere near as tall, and what she saw in Alan, Dawn just couldn’t figure.
She decided to give Jen a moment to herself. The last thing Dawn wanted was for her to feel pressured by her friends as well as her neurotic fiancé.
“Okay, let’s all go to our rooms and relax for a few hours and meet on the porch about seven.”
Ruth, Sally, and Julie exchanged confused glances while Jen visibly sagged with relief at the suggestion. Just as Dawn wondered how she was going to tell the girls what was going on, Jen’s phone rang again.
Dawn waited until her friend had answered the call then turned to talk quietly to the women sitting on the bed. “Jen’s looking a bit overwhelmed. I think she needs a little down time.”
Ruth slid to the edge of the mattress and headed for the door, stopping first to whisper in Dawn’s ear. “If you want Jen to relax we’re gonna have to steal that phone and cut Alan off.”
“Don’t think I haven’t considered it.”
Dawn followed her friends from the room, closing the door on the sound of Jen pleading with Alan to stop being so childish.
Her mind went back to a time when she last had a man-child of her own to deal with. Her relationship with Simon had ended almost a year ago, but the thought of him still had the power to make her angry. Dawn blew out a harsh breath, shaking off the negativity that threatened to overwhelm her every time she thought of her ex.
Their relationship had been great, at first. Simon worked at the same law firm she still worked at now as a paralegal, and their attraction to each other had been instant and powerful. That was until she’d come home early one day and found him in bed with a co-worker. Just like that, five years of her life went down the drain and she found herself alone again.
“But that was then and this is now,” Dawn thought, finishing the last of her champagne and heading for the shower.
If her reaction to the handsome cowboys she’d just met was anything to go by, it was well past time that she found herself a man and made some new memories. There wasn’t much she could do about it now, surrounded as she was by a town full of gay men but, just as soon as she got back to New York, Dawn was gonna shake things up. Maybe she’d even take Ruth up on her offer of arranging a blind date with her cousin?
Dawn sent a silent prayer heavenward that he would turn out to be even half as hot as the cowboys who’d just swept her off her feet.
“So, what was that back there?”
Garrett turned his back as he shrugged off his shirt, hiding his gaze. He knew full well what Ben was talking about, but he’d barely had time to make sense of it himself, never mind talk about it.
“What?”
“The thing with you and that woman.”
“She was struggling with her bags, so I offered her some help, that’s all.”
“I know you too well, big guy. I know when you’re horny for someone, and you were horny for her.” Ben laughed. “Can’t say I blame you. She was pretty hot.”
Garrett stopped undressing and turned to look at Ben, grunting as a spike of lust tore through him at the sight of his lover lying naked on top of the bed. Six feet of hard, wiry muscle wrapped in bronzed, taut skin lay sprawled across the covers, begging to be touched, licked and kissed. In all the years they’d been together, Garrett had never stopped having to catch his breath every time he looked at Ben. The man was beautiful. There was no other word for him.
Garrett got hard and thrust off his jeans to let Ben see, hoping to distract him so he wouldn’t make a big deal out of nothing. The woman had caught his eye. Nothing more. When his lover crawled to the edge of the bed and pulled on Garrett’s hips to yank him closer, he thought he’d gotten away with it, at least for the minute, but he knew Ben well enough to know they were sure as hell gonna talk about it eventually. That much was certain.
Firm lips slid over the head of Garrett’s dick, and he shuddered at the sensation of being sucked to the back of Ben’s throat. He grabbed a fistful of hair and held Ben’s head still while his cock thrust in and out, his movements becoming so frantic and erratic, he could see Ben was struggling to control him.
He tried to close his mind to the image of the woman, and he opened his eyes to look down at Ben to remind his guilty brain that the man he was in love with was the one sucking his dick.
The blow job felt fucking fantastic, but it wasn’t what he needed, not right now. Garrett jerked Ben’s head away, yanking hard on his hair to tilt his head up as he forced his tongue into Ben’s open, panting mouth, grunting in satisfaction as he tasted himself on the other man’s lips.
He climbed onto the bed and shoved Ben backward with enough force to put him flat on his back.
He placed his feet on the mattress, bending slightly at the knee and spreading his legs wide, giving Garrett unrestricted access to the beautiful cock pulsing against Ben’s abdomen.
Garrett kneeled between Ben’s thighs, wrapped his hand around Ben’s shaft, and tugged, making him grab the back of his thighs in response and jerk upward, begging for more. His mouth closed around the head of his lover’s dick, and he swirled his tongue over the sensitive tip, cupping Ben’s balls with his free hand and squeezing gently.
“Quit fucking around and fuck me.” Ben said the words in a husky, broken staccato, pronouncing the syllables in time with the spasms making his body jerk.
“You asked for it.”
Garrett reached for the bottle of lube lying beside them and coated his fingers. He shuffled forward, thrusting his knees under Ben’s thighs, tilting his body upward and exposing the tight knot of his ass. Ben gasped as Garrett slid two fingers into him, working the lube into his hole, and he gave a grunt of satisfaction as Ben’s muscles clamped hard around him.
Gritting his teeth against the sensation, Garrett rubbed some of the lube over his own erection, making it slippery. When he pushed into Ben, he met a little resistance, but one hard thrust was all it took to slide right in. Ben braced his feet against Garrett’s thighs, and he pushed down with his body, hand reaching blindly for his swollen dick.
“Yes, that’s it. Jerk yourself off.” Garrett wrapped his hands around Ben’s thighs, forcing him to absorb every bit of another deep, savage thrust.
“Faster.”
Garrett obliged, letting himself go and jabbing his cock into Ben’s hot, wet anus over and over again. He looked down at the other man shaking and grunting beneath him, stunned once again by how beautiful Ben was. His head was thrown back, exposing the strong cords of his neck and his firm square jaw. The muscles in his chest were bunched and rigid, and glistening with a light sheen of sweat. His abdomen trembled as he yanked on his dick, his fist wrapped firmly around it and moving fast.
A hard, breath-stealing spike of heat shot through Garrett’s shaft and he leaned forward, chasing the sensation and placing his hands on the bed next to Ben’s hips, forcing the man to brace his feet on Garrett’s shoulders. He closed his eyes, losing the battle to stare into Ben’s face to watch him come.
An image of the woman blazed through his mind, and he saw her naked and writhing beneath him, crying with pleasure as he fucked her pussy and Ben took her mouth.
He let out a savage roar, stunned by the way his body reacted to the vision, and every muscle in his groin contracted at the same time, drawing his balls in hard. Somewhere beyond the sound of the blood rushing through his ears, Garrett heard Ben slam into his orgasm seconds before he felt the muscles clamped around his cock begin to contract rapidly, leaving Garrett with no choice but to shoot his load in a series of hot, powerful spurts.
He pulled out, wincing as Ben’s muscles held him firm, as if reluctant to let him go. Garrett collapsed where he was, letting his head rest on Ben’s still-trembling abdomen.
The minutes ticked by, and he had no idea how long he’d been lying there when Ben began to laugh quietly. Garrett lifted his head and looked up into Ben’s face, confused by his reaction.
“What’s so funny?”
“You haven’t fucked me that hard in a very long time.”
Garrett felt the last of his energy drain out of him as he realized Ben hadn’t finished talking about what happened earlier. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
Ben raised his eyebrows, as if the explanation were obvious. “Like I said, something has made you horny and, as much as I’d like to take the credit, I don’t think it’s just me.”
Garrett got defensive, as Ben knew he would, and rolled away from him. “Jesus, Ben. Will you let it go?”
“Calm down, buddy. I’m not angry, just curious.”
Truth was, he was more than just curious. In recent years, Ben had found himself worrying from time to time that Garrett wasn’t getting everything he needed from their relationship. Sure, the sex was always good, sometimes great, and they loved each other, but Ben sensed Garrett missed having a woman in his life far more than he was prepared to admit.
Until his Mary had died in a car crash, just over ten years ago, Garrett had been straight. Or, at least, that’s what he’d always believed. After the shock of her loss, he turned to Ben for support.
They first met five years earlier while working together in New Mexico. Garrett was happily married at the time, and he and his wife were trying for a baby. The two men found a common bond in their love of horses and struck up an easy friendship that made them want to spend time in each other’s company outside of work.
Ben thought of Mary and smiled. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, and he knew Garrett had been crazy about her. When she learned Ben was single, Mary took him under her wing and, for a while, he was part of a family, something he’d never had. Her loss hit him almost as hard as it did Garrett.
A touch on his arm brought Ben back to the present. He turned to find Garrett staring at him, his eyes wary. “You sure you’re not mad? You’ve been awful quiet.”
Ben rolled onto his back and stared up at the ceiling. “Just thinking.”
“About what?”
He looked at Garrett, watching for his reaction. “Mary.”
The pain showed on Garrett’s face before he could hide it by turning away. “Don’t bring her in to this.”
“I’m not. I was just thinking of how happy you two were.” Garrett moved to get off the bed, but Ben grabbed his arm, forcing him to stay put. “Why are you getting all fired up about my mentioning her?”
“Because I know where this is leading. You’re talking about Mary because you’ve got it into your head that I need a woman to make me happy.”
“Can you blame me? Let’s face it, Garrett. We’re both bisexual, but I’ve only ever fallen in love with men. Before me, you’d only ever been with a woman.” Ben sat up and swiveled around to face him. “I know you love me. I’d never doubt that, but maybe that means I know you better than you know yourself. There’s a reason you were drawn to that woman earlier.”
“Yeah, she needed help.” Garrett swung his legs off the bed and stood up, making it clear he was done talking. “I’m gonna grab a shower. We gotta be at the welcome party in an hour.”
Ben watched him walk away, frustrated by how stubborn he was being. His refusal to open up didn’t do anything except convince Ben that his suspicions were probably right. But Garrett had always been mule headed. It was part of the reason they got together.
Garrett had guessed at Ben’s sexuality one night in New Mexico, after they’d been out for a few beers. He asked why Ben never brought a girlfriend over when he came to visit him and Mary at home.
Ben remembered how the question had caught him off guard. He knew the subject might come up one day, but he’d put it off, scared that he’d lose the respect of someone who’d become more than just a friend. Ben told him he was bisexual, watching Garrett’s face carefully for clues as to what was going through his head. In the end, Garrett had simply shrugged and gone right back to complaining about how the Arizona Cardinals were doing in the playoffs. He never mentioned it again, but Ben figured he must have told Mary, because she suddenly stopped asking him when he was gonna bring his girlfriend to dinner.
