There was so much I could have said. But I didn't.
The truth was, I just didn't care. Not anymore. Instead, I told him, "But we're heading out now. The Pride festival is on."
"Yeah, so I found out," he mumbled with a frown.
"Did you need a lift somewhere…?" I asked, trying diplomatically to get rid of him.
"Ah, no," he whispered, shaking his head. "That's fine."
Simon came back down the stairs and waited for us at the door, so we walked out the front of the hotel, and Rod had no choice but to follow.
He started to say something again, but I stopped him. "Good-bye, Rod."
With a sad nod and shake of his head, he got into the rental car and pulled out.
Adam laughed. "What a douche." Then he shook his head at me. "I'd really like to say something about your taste in men, but would only incriminate Sy."
I snorted out a laugh. "And you don't include yourself in that?"
Adam rolled his eyes. "Oh, no, not at all. I'm perfect. Anyone can see that."
I laughed, and the three of us headed out in our
