I never wanted to fall in love. Only stupid girls compromised themselves that way, and I was too smart to sell myself short.

But then again, I never could resist the urge that I was missing out on something. If there really was something to this love thing, I was going to find out about it.

I’ll get him back,
I thought.
I don’t know how, but I will.

Because as much as I hated those desperate women who chased after love, I finally had to admit that I was one of them.

But then, that’s just between us girls.

Acknowledgments

Thanks to my editor, Kelly Notaras, and my agents Michael Carlisle and Pilar Queen of Inkwell Management. I was very lucky to have you on my side, along with the team at Hyperion. Thank you all for your faith and patience.

My love to my family and friends, especially Michelle and Rachel, and special thanks to Richard Leiby at the
Washington Post.
(I’m not mad anymore.)

Last but not least, thanks to all of the bloggers who gave me so much attention and free publicity, and to all of my colleagues in Washington who sent in tips. I knew that all I had to do was wait, and you would make all of this possible.

This book is a work of fiction; names, characters, and incidents are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual events or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.
