Note: There have been literally dozens of Supremes’ albums since 1970, with at least one or two released nearly every year, including several in 2008. These albums—emanating not only from Motown but also from many independent labels that have leasing arrangements with Motown, such as Time-Life, Hip-O

Select, Rhino, and Madacy—include compilations, retrospective packages, anthologies, “Masters” collections, re-releases, never-before-released material (e.g., There’s a Place for Us), imports, rarities, box-sets (the gold standard being the 2000

five-CD The Supremes, with the bonus performance disk omitted in subsequent issues), original masters, re-masters, studio out-takes, and live concert videos, and can be found in vinyl, CD, and DVD (e.g., Live in Amsterdam) formats; there are also a number of bootleg albums available. It may well be impossible to know exactly how many of these albums exist; even Motown may have lost track of all the repackaged material it has released of its ’60s songs through the years, and the Supremes likely are the most regurgitated act in the history of recorded music.

The major Motown acts, as well, appear on an indeterminate number of Motown anthologies (e.g., The Motown Story and the Motown Chartbusters series) and on DVDs such as the Ed Sullivan Rock ’n’ Roll Classics series.
