‘Wow!’ Pete Grundy exclaimed from where he stood at the corner of the building, a wide smile on his grizzled face as he looked up from the watch in the palm of his hand. Which had chimed just once to mark a quarter or half hour.

‘Much obliged, feller.’

Grundy seemed not to hear Edge. ‘That sure as hell proves to me the people that come by here ain’t for real. On account of I know there ain’t a real live man could be that fast with a pistol!’

Edge allowed a sigh to whisper out between his pursed lips and answered softly: ‘You could be right, feller. I sure didn’t give myself the ghost of a chance.’
