“No,” he rasped into her ear.  “Open for
me.  Always open for me.”

His low voice made her insides tremble and
she immediately let her legs fall open.  He was so big – so damn thick – she
tried to tighten around him and failed miserably.  Her effort made him moan
though and she tried again.

“Stop,” he whispered.

She gave him a naughty grin but on her next
attempt, he thrust roughly inside of her.  She cried out, her pelvis bucking
against his, and he began a slow and steady rhythm that made her toes curl into
the grass.  She gripped his tight ass, meeting each of his thrusts as she kept
her legs spread wide for him.

Tension was coiling in her lower belly and
she urged him on with soft cries and moans.  He ignored her obvious pleas to
move faster and kept the same even rhythm that drove her crazy.

“Please, Rafe,” she cried.  “Harder!”

When he didn’t do as she begged, she raked
her nails down his back and writhed beneath him frantically.

“Rafe, I need it!”  She cried.

He bent his head and kissed her mouth,
swallowing her frantic cries, before licking her lower lip.  “The moon, my
love.  Look at the moon.”

She raised her gaze obediently to the
glowing orb as Rafe sucked on one hard nipple.

“So pretty,” she whispered as her hands
tugged and pulled at Rafe’s dark hair.  He lifted his head and stared at the
moon with her and she made a cry of delight when his hips thrust harder and
faster.

“Yes,” she moaned.  “Oh, yes.”

She was awash with sensation, the warm
wind, the soft grass beneath her soft body, Rafe’s hard nakedness on top of
her.  He was so warm, so solid, and she touched his face with a trembling hand.

“Am I dreaming?”  She whispered again.

He dropped his gaze to her and she made a
low gasp.  His eyes, normally the colour of hazel, were a bright glowing jade
and she stared mesmerized at them as he made a low howl and thrust rapidly in
and out of her tight pussy.  She was so wet her juices were dripping down her
thighs and her pussy sucked greedily at his cock as he groaned and fangs
protruded from his mouth.

“Rafe?”  She touched his jaw and made a
startled little shriek when he bent and pressed his mouth against hers.  His
tongue pressed against the seam of her lips and she opened them before
hesitantly running her tongue over the tips of his fangs.  He groaned into her
mouth, his hands digging into the soft ground, and then he was pounding into
her.

He drove into her deeply, sending
shockwaves of pleasure throughout her body, and he kissed her again before
growling, “Legs around my waist.  Now.”

She wrapped her legs around him, hooking
her feet in the small of his back as he made another low growl and fucked her
hard.  Her orgasm was starting and she had a moment of surprise that it was
happening without touching her clit and then pleasure was washing over her and
she screamed Rafe’s name as her body bucked and throbbed beneath his.

He stared up at the moon, his hips
thrusting wildly back and forth, and then his hand was between them and he was
rubbing her clit and she screamed again as another more powerful orgasm roared
through her.  Her back arched as wave after wave of pleasure washed over her,
each one more intense than the last.  Vaguely she was aware of his warm seed
soaking her insides as he howled, his fangs unbelievably long and a thick dark
beard covering his lower jaw.

“Rafe!”  She couldn’t breathe, her head was
spinning and as one last wave of pleasure spiked through her, she screamed
again and collapsed against the grass.  Rafe, breathing harshly, hovered over
her and pressed a kiss against her throat before rolling off of her.  He pulled
her into his embrace, pressing her head against his chest and stroking her back
as he stared dreamily at the moon above them.

Rowan’s body was as pliant as a wet noodle
and she was suddenly, incredibly sleepy.  Could a person fall asleep in a
dream, she wondered tiredly.  She yawned, her eyelids just couldn’t stay open,
and made a soft, snoring noise as she fell asleep.

Chapter 3

“Rafe!”

Rowan sat up with a gasp, blinking in the
bright sunlight flooding through the window, before staring wildly around the
room.  She was in her bedroom at her Nana’s cabin and she slumped against the
bed before touching her mouth.

“What the hell?”  She whispered.

She threw back the covers, staring at her
nightgown as she sat up in bed.  She thought for a moment before studying the
bottom of her right foot.  It was clean, no pine sap or dirt clung to it, and
she groaned and fell back on the bed.

“Just a dream,” she muttered as
disappointment coursed through her.  It had felt so real and she couldn’t quite
wrap her mind around the fact that it had just been a dream.  She sat up and
slid out of bed, wincing a little before touching herself.

Her crotch was sore, it ached pleasantly in
fact, and she began to haul up her nightgown.  Before she could examine
herself, there was a knock on the door and her grandmother stuck her head into
the room.

“Are you going to sleep all day?  It’s
almost – “

Lydia stopped and eyed the nightgown that
was bunched around Rowan’s upper thighs.  “Rowan?  What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, Nana,” Rowan said guiltily before
dropping the nightgown.  “Sorry I slept so late.”

“Get dressed and come have some lunch with
me, sweet girl,” Lydia said.

Twenty minutes later, freshly showered and
dressed, Rowan sat at the table as Lydia piled pancakes on a plate and handed
them to her.

“Thanks, Nana,” she said before pouring a
healthy dose of syrup over the stack of pancakes.  She ate a mouthful and made
a low moan of pleasure.  “These are delicious.”

“Eat up, there’s plenty,” Lydia said before
discreetly checking her watch.

Rafe pulled into Lydia’s driveway and shut
off the truck.  He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel.  When Lydia had
called him this morning and asked if he would mind driving Rowan into town, he
should have said no.  He should have made up some excuse but instead, he had
hesitated only briefly before agreeing.

After last night, he needed to see her
again.  He had damage control to do in a serious way.

You’re lucky she’s a deep sleeper, you
know that, right?

Yeah, he did know.  He had cleaned her feet
with water from the river, dressed her in her nightgown and carried her back to
her grandmother’s, sneaking through the back door and tucking her into her bed,
without Rowan even stirring.  She slept like the dead and he was going to use
that in his favour.  She had thought it was a dream last night and if she
brought it up, he would simply use her confusion against her and convince her
that yes, she had been dreaming.

Coward.

Maybe, but for the first time since he had
danced with Rowan at the Centennial Celebration, his wolf was sated and he
could think clearly again.  He didn’t even remember coaxing Rowan out of her
grandmother’s house, didn’t remember leading her into the woods.  His wolf had
taken over the moment he had caught his first glimpse of the full moon.  He
hadn’t resumed control until they were by the river.  He had shifted to his
human form and when he saw Rowan in the moonlight, her red hair flowing down
her back and her bare shoulders glowing in the soft light, he was lost.

He shouldn’t have slept with her but there
was an odd feeling of relief at having finally done so.  His wolf had been
obsessed with Rowan for the last three years – since the very first night she
had started working at Gaston’s.  He had caught the occasional glimpse of her
in town, shopping or eating at one of the restaurants, but truthfully he hadn’t
paid much attention to her.  He had noticed her red hair, of course, but that
was the extent of it.  Until he had walked into Gaston’s one night for a beer
and she had been waitressing.  She had stopped at his table, smiling politely
at him, and his wolf had caught one whiff of her scent and gone insane.  He had
stopped going to Gaston’s when he began to smell her lust for him.  She hadn’t
flirted, she hadn’t touched him or made any indication that she wanted him – in
fact, she was always slightly flustered and nervous around him – but he could
smell her need for him.  It had sent his wolf into a frenzy of desire.

Just the wolf?

He closed his eyes for a brief moment.
Fuck, no, not just his wolf.  But that didn’t matter.  What mattered was that
his wolf had finally gotten what it wanted and his obsession with Rowan was
finished.  His human side might still want her but that was at least capable of
rational thought and it would be simple enough to ignore his lust.

He slid out of the truck, took a deep
breath, and trudged toward the cabin.  He could do this.

“Nana, why do you keep looking at your
watch?”  Rowan asked as she spread butter on her second helping of pancakes.

“No reason,” Lydia said innocently.  “I’m
just – “

There was a knock at the door and Scrappy
and Scruffy barked shrilly as Lydia hollered, “It’s open.”

Rowan’s heart leaped in her chest when the
door opened and Rafe walked into the cabin.  He petted the dogs roughly before
joining them in the kitchen.

“Hi, Rafe.  You’re just in time for some
pancakes,” Lydia said.

“I ate already, but thank you,” Rafe said.
“Hello, Ms. Jameson.”

“What are you doing here?”  Rowan asked
abruptly.

“I asked Rafe if he would mind driving you
home since your car crapped out on you,” Lydia said cheerfully.  “And he was
sweet enough to say yes.  Now, finish up your pancakes, sweet girl.”

Rowan, her cheeks flushed, poured syrup on
her pancakes and ate a mouthful, licking away the drop of syrup on her lips, as
Rafe stiffened and took a step backward.  His tanned face was rather pale and
Lydia gave him a look of concern.

“Rafe, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” he said hoarsely.

Lydia frowned and pointed to one of the
chairs.  “Sit down, Rafe and I’ll get you a glass of water.  You look like
you’re going to pass out.”

Rafe sat down and stared at the floor.  His
wolf, which had been quiet and subdued for the morning, had gone crazy the
moment it smelled Rowan.  He tried desperately to calm it as Lydia set the
glass of water on the table in front of him and pressed her hand against his
forehead.

“You don’t feel warm.”

“I’m fine,” he said.

He wasn’t fine.  He was about as far from
fine as he could get but how was he supposed to explain that to Lydia?

Hey, Lydia.  So I lured your granddaughter
out of your house and fucked her in the forest last night even though I’m
fifteen years older than her and that makes me a dirty old man.  But my wolf
was driving me insane and I had to do something.  Only now the goddamn thing
thinks she’s his mate and, uh, how do you feel about having wolf shifters as
great-grandbabies?

He groaned inwardly and drank the glass of
water in three large gulps.  Oh yeah, that conversation would go over real well
with the old woman.  If he was lucky, she’d just cut off his balls and not
straight-up murder him.

Rowan pushed away her half-eaten pancakes
and stood up.  “Sorry, Nana.  I’m really full.  I’m just going to pack up my
stuff.”

She disappeared into the bedroom and Rafe
clenched his hands into tight fists as his eyes turned jade.  She was wearing a
thin tank top and a pair of jeans shorts and he was beyond tempted to follow
her to her room, tear those ridiculously tiny shorts from her slender body and
fuck her until she was screaming his name.  Scrappy and Scruffy, who were
sniffing around at his feet, froze and stared up at him before making twin
growls.  His wolf snarled at them and Rafe pushed down his need to shift with
superhuman strength.

Give me my mate!

Enough
!  He
snapped at his wolf.
Enough!  You can have her later.

A bold-faced lie but it calmed his wolf
down and allowed him to relax just a fraction.  He was just wondering if he
could somehow get out of giving Rowan a ride home when Lydia said, “Thank you
again for giving my girl a ride home, Rafe.  I sure appreciate it.”

“Uh, no problem,” he mumbled.  “I was
heading into town anyway.”

“Oh good,” Lydia said.  She cleared away
the dishes, smiling when Rowan reappeared with her backpack.  “All ready to go,
sweet girl?”

“Yes.  I’ll call you tomorrow, okay?”

“Sounds good.  Love you!”  Lydia kissed her
cheek and Rowan hugged her tightly before smiling nervously at Rafe.

He stood and followed her out of the
cabin.  She climbed into his truck, they both waved at Lydia who was standing
in the doorway, and he backed out of the driveway and rolled down his window.

There were a few minutes of awkward silence
before Rowan said, “So are we going to talk about last night?”

Rafe took a deep breath and pasted what he
hoped was a curious look on his face.  “I’m sorry?”

“Last night.  Are we going to talk about
it?”

“I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re
talking about, Ms. Jameson.”

She gave him a look of exasperation.  “We
were in the forest last night and we…”

She trailed off and he arched one eyebrow
at her.  “We what?”

“We fucked,” she said bluntly.

Rowan watched as Rafe’s mouth dropped open
and he gave her a look of utter shock.  “I’m sorry?”

“We had sex in the forest last night,” she
repeated.  She clutched her hands together and stared at her knees.

“No, we didn’t,” Rafe said politely.  “I
was at home all night.”

“Bullshit,” she said.  “The wolf lured me
out into the forest and disappeared.  Then you showed up and you were naked and
we had sex.”

She groaned inwardly.  Now that she was
actually saying it out loud, it sounded extremely stupid.

“I can assure you that I was not naked in
the forest last night, Ms. Jameson.  Nor did we have sex.  You must have been
dreaming.”

She glared at him.  “I know it wasn’t a
dream, Rafe.”

“How do you know?  Did you wake up in the
forest this morning?”  He asked.

“No,” she admitted.  “I was in my bed but
my…”

“What?”  He gave her a curious look.

“I was sore this morning,” she muttered.

He just stared at her blankly and she
groaned and covered her face.  “Oh my God, it was a dream.  I am unbelievably
embarrassed right now.”

He cleared his throat.  “There’s nothing to
be embarrassed about.”

Rowan stared out the window as her cheeks
burned dully.  While showering this morning, she had convinced herself that it
wasn’t a dream.  She had been tender and sore and while she supposed there was
the off-chance that she had been finger-banging herself during her dream, it seemed
more plausible that Rafe had been wandering naked in the forest last night and
they’d had sex.  But that was before she had seen the look on Rafe’s face.

“Ms. Jameson, I – “

“No.”  She shook her head and continued to
look out the window.  “I’m sorry but I really don’t want to talk.  In fact, you
should probably know that I’ll never be able to look you in the eye again but,
uh, don’t take it personally.”

“You don’t have to – “

“Please,” she said and was horrified at how
obvious it was that she was close to tears, “can you just drive me home, Mr.
Taggert?”

“Yes,” he said quietly and she blinked back
the hot tears as they drove silently through the forest.

“Ro, sweetie, please tell us what’s wrong,”
Belle said gently.

“Nothing’s wrong,” Rowan said.

Ella leaned forward and rubbed Rowan’s
back.  “There is.  Let us help you.”

Rowan sighed and took a drink of lemonade
before staring at the backyard.  “Bennett’s doing a great job on the backyard.”

“He is,” Belle said before waiting
patiently.

“Is he, uh, home right now?”

“No.  He drove with Duncan to Newport.
Duncan was meeting with his agent and then they were going to pick up some
supplies to fix the greenhouse.”

“Crazy that Duncan is actually Samuel,”
Rowan said brightly to Ella.  “I still can’t quite believe it.”

Ella squeezed her hand.  “It’s still a
little weird for me too.  Don’t change the subject, honey.”

Rowan sighed loudly.  “I humiliated myself
in front of Rafe Taggert again.  Really, badly.  Like, ‘I can never look him in
the eye again’ badly.”

“What happened?”  Belle asked.

“It’s a long story,” Rowan said, “and I
might need something a little stronger than lemonade to tell it.”

Belle smiled at her and stood.  “I think Bennett’s
got some whiskey.”
