She nodded, her eyes shining like pieces of jade, the green stone she’d been named after. His hands curled around her waist, supporting her as she reached down to guide him, to join their bodies. Hovering, teasing, she prolonged the anticipation before slowly lowering herself to take him inside her body.
The past faded away as she rose and fell. His mouth sought her breasts, tasted her. How long had he waited for this? For this sense of belonging, of being worthy of love? His hands cradled her back, fingers splayed to steady her as they rocked together, a man and a woman in an act of sharing their love for each other.
All too soon and yet not soon enough, she tightened around him. He held her as a fierce release shook her, his arms shielding her from her own violent throes of abandon. She was calling out his name over and over again, making him feel accepted as nothing else ever had. When Carl joined her, pulsing his own release deep inside her, a sense of completeness settled over him.
Slowly, Jade came alive again in his arms, wriggling in his lap to adjust her position. Her hands slid up and her fingers raked into his hair, tilting his head back so she could look into his face. When she had his full attention, and his amber eyes had locked with her green ones, she asked, ‘Did I ever tell you that I love you, too?’
‘No, you didn’t.’
‘Well, I’m telling you now. I love you.’
He’d never expected a man could take such a jolt to his heart and not die of it. Without thinking, he swept his hand down, curling it over her belly. Jade settled her hand on top of his, her small hand attempting to cover his much larger one. Without speaking, he knew what she was telling him.
I love you, and so will this child
