A. No, he wasn’t holding her. He was just watching. And then after Titsworth got through, he told me that it was my turn. And I told him that I didn’t want sloppy seconds. And he handed me the knife and everything, and I started teasing around with her and all and that I was going to rape her and, you know, just to show, you know, that Titsworth and Karl—that, you know, that I could do it and—but I was so drunk, that when I did try to rape her, that I couldn’t rape her.

And then I went down to the house and I stayed at my house for about fifteen or twenty minutes. And then I was kind of worried about, what if they just left her up there, laying on the ground. And so I walked back up there and they were still there. And—

A. Oh, I just was afraid that they was going to leave her there.

A. Uh-huh. Or if they did kill her and everything and left her body there.

Q. Tommy, you said earlier that you knew this girl. At the time that you were attempting to rape her, were you angry with her?

A. Yes, I was upset because she was laughing about my ex-girlfriend and me breaking up.

A. On her face. And then I started biting her on the tit. And then I was holding her down, and then that’s when Titsworth and Karl come up and started pulling me off of her. And then Titsworth kept on calling her a bitch and everything, and grabbed her up and he started walking back toward the pickup with her.

A. Uh-huh. And then that’s when Karl started on her.

A. She was still moving around, crying and everything.

A. Titsworth.

Q. What was he doing with it?

A. He was cutting on her side—on her side and on her—that’s where he—when he cut her on the side of the throat.

Q. He was cutting her while Karl was raping her?

A. Uh-huh.

Q. Why was he cutting her?

A. I don’t know. He just kept on calling her a bitch and kept on telling her that she shouldn’t have tried to run.

A. Uh-huh, he was slapping her with the back of his hand and stuff. And Karl told him to quit. And he goes, “Wait until I get through.” And then that’s when I went down to the house.

Q. All right. How long were you gone? How come you went down to your house?

A. Because I told him I wasn’t going to take any more of it, you know, that I didn’t want to rape her or anything.

Q. How long were you down at your house?

A. I was down there about twenty minutes.

Q. And then what did you do?

A. I walked back up there because I was afraid that they might have killed her and just dumped her out right there, you know.

Q. When you got down to your house, did you notice if you had any blood or anything on you?

A. No, I didn’t notice that.

Q. All right. And then you went back up—you stayed at the house about twenty minutes, and then you went back up to the pickup where they were at. What was going on when you got back up to the pickup?

A. Karl was still raping her, and she had tremendous cuts all over her.

Q. All right. Where were all the cuts that you can remember at?

A. Mostly in the stomach, around in the stomach, and on her legs. She had a couple of cuts on her legs.

Q. Did Karl have his clothes off?

A. Yeah.

Q. All of them?

A. Uh-huh. And then I knew that she was dead because she was white.

Q. Was she moving?

A. No.

Q. Breathing?

A. I didn’t see any breathing or anything.

Q. What was Titsworth doing?

A. He was sitting—well, he was standing right beside the pickup and leaning over the side of the bed of the pickup laughing at him, and saying, “You’re raping a corpse.”

A. And then that’s when he stopped.

Q. Was he still trying to hold her down?

A. Uh-huh.

Q. Titsworth?

A. No, Karl.

Q. He was just leaning over the bed of the pickup?

A. Yeah.

Q. And he told him what?

A. He was telling him that he was raping a corpse.

Q. And did Fontenot say anything after he told him that?

A. No, he jumped up off of her and said that—he said that he liked it better that way.

Q. Fontenot said he liked it better that way—

A. Uh-huh.

Q. —when they were dead?

A. Uh-huh.

Q. And then what happened?

A. And then he told me that we had to get rid of her and all, and asked me a good place to get rid of her. And I told him about a house and about this ditch down by the Sandy River.

Q. Okay. Now, where was this house and this ditch you were talking about located from where you all were at, at that point in time?

A. The house was west of us—

A. —about a quarter of a mile.

Q. About a quarter of a mile west?

A. Yeah. And the ditch down—I can’t think of what they—I called it.

Q. Concrete bunkers?

A. Yeah, it was a concrete bunker. And I told them where that was at. And he asked me to come back—come down there and show them where it was at. And I told them that I had to get back to the house because I was afraid, and that I didn’t want to have anything else to do with it. And so I started to go back down to the house and I helped them put it—put her up on Titsdale’s shoulder, and then Karl got around the front and was carrying her legs, and they started walking off down toward the woods. And I went on home.

A. They put them back on her.

A. Uh-huh. And then, when they was walking off toward the woods and everything, I went back to the house. And then I didn’t see them for the next couple of days.

Q. Did you notice anything about your own appearance when you got back to the house?

A. No, I—

Q. Was there anything unusual? Did you have anything on you?

A. I had some blood on my arms from her, and I washed it off.

Q. How did you get the blood on your arm?

A. It was from when I was trying to rape her. And then when I found out that I couldn’t rape her, and all, that’s when she was struggling and got away from me.

Q. Okay. So what you’re saying, the last time you saw them was after you helped put the main portion of her upper body on Titsworth’s shoulders—

A. Uh-huh.

Q. —and Fontenot came around in front of him and picked up her legs and they were walking west from where the pickup was at, down toward the road that leads down to the house?

A. Yeah, down toward the—

Q. To the Sandy Creek?

A. Sandy Creek, down there.

Q. Okay. So—

A. And so I don’t know which way they took her. And then a couple of days after I seen them and all, he—Karl told me that they took her down to that bunker down there by Sandy, threw her off in it.

Q. What else did they tell you?

A. He told me that if I said anything about it and all that he’d come after me and kill me.

Q. Now, who told you that?

A. Titsworth.

Q. How much money was taken?

A. I don’t know.

Q. Did you receive any of the money?

A. No.

Q. Do you know if Karl Fontenot got any of the money?

A. No, I don’t know if he did or not, but I know I didn’t because I was broke and the next day I had to bum some money off my mother to go get some cigarettes.

Q. Did you see Titsworth with any of the money?

A. Yes, I seen him when he was putting it into his billfold, when we was at the store.

Q. You mean he took time out during this armed robbery to take his billfold out and put the money in it out of the cash register?
