“Oh my God, Juan is that you.”

“I’m not a ghost. Surprise bitch,” he said, aiming his gun at me.

“I can’t believe it…you’re alive.” He’d grown a beard and had put on at least thirty pounds. He also had a dent on the side of his head that sorta reminded me of 50 Cent’s gunshot wound.

“No shit.”

“Why are you pointing that gun at me?”

“Where should I begin? The last time I checked you set me up for Renzo, tortured my mother while she battled with her mind, and lastly you killed my father.”

“I didn’t set you up, Juan. I cared about you. What were you thinking when you ought you could take down Lorenzo.”

“With all the money he had, I guess he couldn’t buy a new heart. Heart problems a motherfucker, huh,” Juan smirked. “I guess after I sent him that letter from you, about how you were out here living with Rich as a family and how you’d forgiven him for killing Carlos, that fucked him up.”

“Juan, do you know what you’ve done? If the Columbians find out there’s no witness protection that’s gonna protect you.”

“Fuck witness protection. I don’t need that anymore, especially now that Armondo is dead, too. That nigga got shanked in jail, so now I’m good. Me, my sister and my nephew are gonna be alright.”

“Denie would never forgive you if you kill me. I’m all that she has,” I replied.

“If that’s the case, ask Denie how long she knew I was back. How did you think I knew you were on your way back home from the hospital?”

My eyes enlarged. “She wouldn’t dare. She’s my daughter, you hot muthafucka. There’s no way she would ever hurt me.”

“She was my sister first. Do you think Denie really forgave you for leaving her at birth for some dick? You chose Carlos over your daughter and she’s never forgiven you for that.”

“I don’t believe you. I was there for my daughter when it mattered and I’m going to be there for my grandson Baby Carlos. Denie needs me, she’s sick.”

“She’s sick because her being here in your house caused her to meet the dude who turned her life upside down. Baby Los huh? Is that what she told you?” Juan smiled. “Denie is getting good. My nephew was named after me and my father Juan Sanchez.”

I laughed, too. “Juan you really are delusional…just like your mother.”

His smile instantly turned into a frown. “Marisol I am tired of talking to you. I’m tired of looking at your face, I’m tired of hearing your voice,” he said, raising the gun a little higher like he was trying to get the perfect aim.

“Juan wait, please don’t.”

“I’m sorry, Marisol but you’re the only one left that I would have to watch my back for.”

“But Juan I never had beef with you.”

“Bitch you killed my father. I looked forward to the day me and him could rebuild our relationship and you ruined it for me. So…stop fucking whining.”

“But Denie needs me. Juan you can’t take care of her and the baby.”

“Denie will be fine Marisol. Now it’s time for you to go.”

Blop, blop, blop
. I fell to my knees as the bullets pierced through my skin and fire burned through my body. My vision of Juan faded quickly and finally I was at rest. Finally I was away from the drama. I was going home to be with my husband and my daughter.

Chapter 29
Juan

Damn, I never been a killer, but I couldn’t believe how easy it was for me to put three bullets into Marisol’s chest. I aimed straight for the heart. Once I knew I didn’t have to worry about Uncle Renzo any longer, I was determined to come back and take my sister out of that dead end environment. It just hurt that I couldn’t come back sooner to save my mother. I hated that she thought I was dead, but in order to get Renzo and Armondo behind bars, I had to disappear. I could only imagine how bad she sobbed at the casket during my so-called funeral. With the casket never opened, I had no idea whose body was actually inside. It’s crazy what those fucking Feds could pull off. After Renzo and his goons tortured, pistol whipped and even shot me, when I finally woke up, I was on a farm out in North Carolina somewhere to heal, while awaiting Renzo’s trial. See, even though Renzo shot me in the head, I managed to survive. I’m just lucky they were dumb enough to leave me in the hotel room instead of dumping my body at some deserted location. I guess it was meant for me to be here. Now, I understood why my mother and father wanted more for me and Denie. They wanted to give us what they didn’t have, and that was peace.

Walking closer to my mother’s grave I became extremely choked up. The last time I was here I put lilies on her grave as a peace offering. I wanted her to know how sorry I was for not being there. How sorry I was or putting her through so much pain. Why couldn’t she just hold on long enough until I left the witness protection program?

I wish I could just hug her one more time
, I thought to myself as I replaced the old flowers with the new ones.

“Hey, Ma. I just want to let you know that I took care of Marisol. I’m sure you know how much she deserved it. Now, it’s only me and Denie. We promised to be there for each other just like you raised us. We’re also done with the street life. We need a fresh start so we’re moving to Florida. The house Marisol built is actually in Denie’s name, so we have somewhere to go…somewhere to start over. You would be proud of me, I plan on taking golf lessons when I get out there. I’ma be on some Tiger Woods type shit.” Rubbing my hand across her tombstone, tears started to trickle down my face. “Well, I gotta go pick up Denie and my little nephew. He’s such a beautiful little boy. I’ll have to bring him to see you one day. We actually decided to take care of Carmen, too. Can you believe that was Denie’s idea? I guess she’s finally growing up. I love you, Ma and don’t worry about us anymore. You can finally rest. Life is gonna be good now.”
