Gambieri, Bradley

Gautier, Cherise
Nick Gautier’s mother (she gave birth when she was fifteen). A former Bourbon Street exotic dancer and Miss Louisiana, Cherise later went to college on a full scholarship. Her parents were wealthy folks who lived in Kenner, but they disowned her when they discovered she was pregnant with Nick.

Nick bought her a house for her birthday when he was twenty with his earnings as Kyrian’s Squire, but he never told his mother what he was involved in. She was convinced her son was dealing drugs.

Cherise was a cook and bartender at Sanctuary, and was always trying to get Ash to eat something. She loved romance novels.

Cherise was killed in her house by the Dark-Hunter Ulric, when he was possessed by the spirit of the Daimon Desiderius. It was her death that prompted Nick to commit suicide so that Artemis might make him a Dark-Hunter.

She is entombed in the Gautier family mausoleum at the St. Louis cemetery on Basin Street. Ash sends her flowers every day, and visits whenever he is in town.

It did not survive.

Amanda met her husband Kyrian by waking up handcuffed to him after being attacked at her twin’s house. A black belt in aikido and a powerful human sorceress, Amanda is the mother of Marissa Hunter.

She has been referred to as “The Final Fate.” Whoever possesses her possesses the key to control the most primal, ancient power of all time. Whatever that is. Must be something important, though, because Apollymi believes that by killing her, she can resurrect her son Apostolos.

P
OWERS

Iason
Iason met Julian in the Spartan barracks. He was the leader of his group. When Julian took a beating for Iason, they became inseparable. When forced by Priapus to drink water from the Pool of Memory, Iason challenged Julian. He was accidentally killed in the duel.

Justina
Megeara Kafieri’s second-in-command on her scientific team.

Kafieri, Athena
(deceased) The wife of Theron and mother of Tory.

Kafieri, Eneas
Megeara’s father who died an alcoholic in 1990. Eneas carried out the family tradition in his lifelong pursuit of Atlantis. He was laughed out of both the publishing industry and the academic profession for his wild hypotheses. He died just after discovering artifacts that could have proven the island’s existence.

Kafieri, Jason
Megeara’s artist brother who died when his diving line tangled and his tank ran out of oxygen while searching for Atlantis.

Kafieri, Megeara
    (See Megeara Saatskakis.)

Kafieri, Theo
Megeara’s sage grandfather who was blinded by a raiding Nazi party on his ninth birthday and left for dead while the rest of his family was slaughtered. A mysterious man (his “Saving Angel”) saved him and shipped him off to America.

Kafieri, Theron
(deceased) Megeara’s uncle; Eneas’s brother. Theron also died in pursuit of the elusive Atlantis. The father of Tory, Theron drowned in the Aegean in 1980 in a diving accident.

Kafieri, Tory
Daughter of Theron and Athena; Megeara’s cousin. She was five years old when her parents died. Tory is a precocious certified genius who loves nothing more than the obsession of hunting for Atlantis with her cousin. She communicates with Geary in their own secret language, a mix between ancient Greek and Latin. She has a teddy bear named Mr. Cuddles, and a tendency to spout obscure—and correct—statistics at random. Tory is fond of junk food: Moon Pies, Hostess cupcakes, and Pop-Tarts especially. She wears extremely thick glasses, and is not exactly graceful.

Kichka
Tory Kafieri’s cat, a Bengal, who liked Megeara so much she adopted her.

Kish
Sin’s non-Squire, Kish was originally a runaway slave. A liar and a thief, he bargained his soul with a demon in exchange for immortality and wealth. Kish met Sin when he was sent to kill him—which, to be fair, is how most people meet Sin. Kish asked Sin to kill him instead, so that he might be freed from his horrible life of pain. Sin could not ignore the humanity of that plea, so he bartered Kish away from his demon pact.

Laurens, Selena
(née Devereaux) Nickname: Lane or Lanie. The seventh Devereaux sister, Selena is a seventh daughter of a seventh daughter. A gypsy by birth, Selena owned a tarot card and palm reading stand under the name Madame Selene, Moon Mistress. After a law was passed that no more psychics could work in the Square and Selena protested, Acheron bought her a building.

Selena roomed with Grace Alexander her first year at Tulane. Despite her love of New Agey woo-woo, Selena has a Ph.D. in Ancient History and Physics with a specialty in Bronze Age Greece.

Leonard
Friend of the Squire Celena. Leonard specializes in fireproofing houses, underground bunkers for Dark-Hunters, sprinkler systems … you name it. If you happen to be in the Mississippi area, give him a call.

Liora
Wife of Ias of Groesia/Alexion and secret lover of Lycantes. Liora did not love Ias as much as he thought, and so dropped the medallion when attempting the out clause after he had become a Dark-Hunter. Instead of freeing Ias, she doomed him to Shadedom, and a life as Acheron’s Alexion. As punishment, Ash turned her to stone. Personally, I think she could have suffered a little bit more.

Lisa
    Grace Alexander’s secretary.

Lycantes
Had an affair with Liora, wife of Ias of Groesia/Alexion. Lycantes later killed Ias, who came back as a Dark-Hunter.

Magnus, Aesculus
Brother of Valerius Magnus; half-brother of Zarek of Moesia.

Magnus, Gaius
Roman senator; father of Aesculus; Lucius; Marcus; Marius; Valerius; and Zarek (whom he sired on one of his Greek slaves). Gaius used slaves to train his sons for cruelty. He killed his wife for smiling at another man. Not exactly a sunshine and puppies sort of guy.

Magnus, Lucius
Brother of Valerius Magnus; half-brother of Zarek of Moesia.

Magnus, Marcus
Brother of Valerius Magnus; half-brother of Zarek of Moesia.

Magnus, Marius
Brother of Valerius Magnus; half-brother of Zarek of Moesia.

Magnus, Valerius
The elder, non-Dark-Hunter. This Valerius captured pre-Dark-Hunter Kyrian in battle, tortured him, and took his wife as his mistress. This Valerius is the
grandfather,
and spitting image, of Valerius Magnus the Dark-Hunter. It would behoove you to remember this very important piece of information. It’s not something anyone likes to talk about, and when the subject is brought up in conversation it’s a sure bet that someone in the room’s temper is well past its breaking point. A wrong word could be your last.

McDaniels, Erin
A creative woman racked by nightmares and hunted by Skoti. Erin fell in love with V’Aidan, a Skotos dragon. She is currently a bestselling novelist.
