Chapter 32- Pearl

Waking as the sun comes streaming into the room, I am quickly reminded that this is not my room, and I do not know this room. Hitting me like a brick, the thought of what happened the night before comes to me. I can barely open my eyes as I try to look around this room and figure out where I am. My body is sore, and my head is pounding, but nothing can stop the thoughts that are now flooding in.

I remember seeing him with Layla and running away from him then everything gets really fuzzy. I remember seeing his green eyes, then seeing him turn and walk away but why did he leave? As I sit up and try to remember I feel a sharp pain zing through my crotch. More memories come flooding back to me, and I cry out.

Markus is next to me within a second cooing in my ear, “Shhh. Hush, sweetling, It’s all right; you are safe. I am here. I will take care of you. I will never let anything like this happen to you again. Hush.”

“Markus, I have to check on the girls… they are…”

“Stop, sweetling, I already talked to Madge. She called to let you know about the girls early this morning, and I think to check up on you too. I answered the phone just in case. I told her that you would be returning later than you thought. Your car is here and the keys are downstairs, so you are free to go whenever you like. Madge said the girls were fine and that she was going to take the girls to the park and then to a movie. I didn’t tell her anything about what happened because I am not even sure what happened, sweetling.” He looks me over from head to toe before continuing. “After you take these pills we have to talk, yes?” he says slowly turning my head to his looking directly into my eyes.

“OK Bla“

“No, Pearl, please. Call me Markus.”

“OK. Markus, I will go to the bathroom, take these pills, and then we can talk. I am not sure how much I remember, but I will try to tell you as much as I can.” Getting up on unsteady feet I grab the bedside table to stop myself from falling. As I look over to the table I have just grabbed I see three pills and a pregnancy test.

“What’s that for?” I say pointing towards the pregnancy test and pills that are laid out on the bed side table.

“The nurse said that if there is any chance you could be pregnant it would be from before tonight’s rape. So, she left the pregnancy test, and then if it comes up negative, she left the morning after pill, if you wanted to take it. The other pills are pain killers.”

“Yeah, that makes sense.” shrugging and shaking my head, I tell him “I’ll be right back.” Sliding out of bed and walking towards the door I turn back to Markus, quickly realizing that I have no idea where anything it is that I am going.

Smiling at me, he answers before I even ask the question. “The bathroom is the second door on the left sweetling.” I swing the door shut as I make my way into the hall to find this bathroom.

Locking the door behind me I sit down on the toilet and unwrap the test. Pregnancy tests are nothing new to me so I do what I need to do and get up to wash my hands. Raising my head to look for a towel I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, and I let out a small gasp as I see myself. My face has bruises criss-crossing it from one side to the other.

I slowly pull the t-shirt up and over my head. When I look back to the mirror I see marks marring my stomach, bite marks on my breasts, bruises going down both of my arms, rope burns on both wrists, finger marks on my throat, and a small bandage peeking out from under the boxer shorts I have on. As I pull them down slightly peeling the bandage off I see a cut with six stitches in it on my lower abdomen near my left hip bone. Feeling at a loss for words and unable to continue this perusal, I sink to the floor and wail.

Getting lost in thoughts of last night and the tears that are unrelenting I all but forget what I was in the bathroom for. Then I hear heavy footsteps coming down the hall and a heavy knock on the door.

“Are you okay, sweetling? Do you need something? Are you in pain? Can I help? Pearl?”

Reaching up, I unlock the door and Markus rushes in. Grabbing a towel off of the shower after he sees my disrobed state, he wraps it around my shoulders and helps me to sit down on the closed toilet lid. I dismiss him from the room reassuring him that I am OK. As he leaves the bathroom, closing the door behind himself after our eyes caught on each other. I reach towards the sink for the pregnancy test with unsteady hands before glancing down at the test in my hands I take a deep calming breath.

Two pink lines…

FUCK!

I have to get out of here and get home to figure this shit out. I quickly get back to the bedroom after grabbing all of the shit outta the bathroom. I dress in a pair of sweats and a big t-shirt that I find in a dresser that smell of Blaze; I am not sure where Markus is, but I don’t think that he will be to keen on my leaving.

As I walk to the stairs that I passed on the way to the bathroom, I can hear his voice coming from another room on the top floor of the house. His voice is very agitated and he is talking about Tank not being able to be found. I quietly go down the steps toward the bottom floor and find the kitchen. The keys for my SUV are lying on the table, and I grab them quickly before making my way out the door.
