“Everything has led to this,” Ian said.
We stopped in the middle of the bridge for a kiss. Ian hung his arms low around my waist. I felt a rush of desire as I clutched at his muscular back. I wanted him physically, but I knew it would have to wait. I pulled away from him, trying to control my urges. Liam slipped his arm around my shoulders, and we stared out from the bridge.
“You don’t seem surprised at all,” I said. “Like you expected this would happen.”
“I did,” Ian said. “All my life, I saw myself married, with family. I knew God would provide. I didn’t know I’d meet you today, on my first day at a new church.” He laughed, and kissed the top of my head. “I try not to be surprised with what life throws my way. I just accept it as it comes.” Liam dug inside of his pocket, and retrieved something he held in the palm of his hand. “And as a military man, I’m always prepared.”
At first, I thought Ian had lost his balance when he lowered himself to one knee. When I saw the ring and realized what he was doing, I covered my mouth in shock. I wasn’t surprised that he was asking me to marry him, but that this was just like a reoccurring scene from my dreams. Ian grabbed my hand and held the ring over my fingertip. I gave the slightest nod of my head, and Liam slipped the ring on my finger. It was a perfect fit. He rose up, and we fell into a tight embrace. After kissing every inch of my face, shoulders, and arms, he spoke.
“I have a friend at the clerk’s office. We can pick up our license after the ceremony tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow,” I said. “Don’t you think that’s kind of fast?”
“I don’t, actually,” Ian said.
