Olivia noticed Chance talking and walking farther down the drive. He hand signaled he’d be another minute. Jase and Dir followed a few steps behind Olivia, and once inside the kitchen both men sat silently as she put together five plates of food. No plate for her, with everything that had happened. Her appetite vacated the premises.

When she finished her preparations, she set a plate in front of each one and watched them demolish it in minutes.

“Thank you Ms. Bentley, it was delicious,” Dir said, sliding his chair back.

“Please, call me Olivia.” She reached across the table and picked up their empty dishes.

“Appreciate your kindness, the food was great,” Jase added, also getting up from his chair. “We’ll be heading out now.” And they both scurried out and jumped into a truck. They left, driving around Chance, who was still on his cellphone.

Olivia stood inside the porch watching the expressions on Chance’s face as he talked. She opened her psyche and read him, serious, concerned, angry, frustrated, intrigued, and finally, satisfied. He stuffed the phone in his back pocket and looked up at her, almost like he knew she’d be standing there.

He hurried through the door. “Tell me Jase and Dir minded their manners with you.”

“Why wouldn’t they? As a matter of fact, they acted afraid of me, uncomfortable.” She studied him.

“They aren’t used to damsels in distress. They’re more military action kind of guys.”

“With one exception, Trevor, who loves a woman carting a whip, at least I think that’s what Lindsey has in her back pocket.” Olivia chuckled. “Hey, I made you something to eat, come on in and sit down a minute.”

“Actually, I’m planning on staying here until we catch that beast. I didn’t really ask, but I assumed you’d appreciate a bodyguard.” He pulled out a chair and sat. Olivia immediately handed him a thick meaty sandwich, cucumbers, and a cinnamon applesauce muffin. “Damn, woman, you really know how to please a man.”

“No,” she said boldly, “you haven’t experienced how I please a man.”

Chance stopped mid-bite. His mouth opened at the ready, and he looked up, meeting her eyes. “I stand corrected, Ms. Bentley, I haven’t experienced that pleasure yet. But it’s something I definitely look forward to.” He wiggled his brows at her and took a big bite of his sandwich, smiling through his chewing.

Right then, Lindsey and Trevor walked in, giggling like two kids after doing something naughty. Lindsey had a look of surprise, like she didn’t expect anyone.

“The animals are all good for the night. Trevor and I released Rocky the raccoon.” Lindsey giggled again. “You had him on the schedule for release sometime this week. Today was his lucky day. Also, I figured it would be good for the others to—”

“Oh, my, look who has kissed-lip syndrome now,” Olivia broke in, staring at Lindsey’s face, which went from red to beet red, and her giggly demeanor turned into a shy smile.

“Looks like you’ve been busy, Trevor,” Chance said, while chewing another bite.

“Wow, that looks yummy. You wouldn’t happen to have another one of those, would you?” Trevor asked, ignoring Chance’s comment.

Olivia set two more plates on the table, one for Lindsey and the other for Trevor. Both of them ate with gusto and were finished at the same time as Chance.

“Boss, you’re planning on staying, right?”

“No way, I’ll stay,” Lindsey spoke up.

“Sorry toots, you’re not a qualified bodyguard, are you?” Trevor squeezed her upper arm, like he was checking for bold biceps. “Nope, too skinny.”

Lindsey slugged him in the chest and almost knocked him off the chair. “There, what do you think of that?”

“Whoa, darlin’, you pack a tough punch. You hit me in my heart, twice.”

“Only once, unless you want me to do it again.” Lindsey cocked her arm back, fist ready.

“Outside, over by the barn, you hit my heart then.” Trevor crossed an X over his heart. “You know, darlin’, when we kissed…you rocked my heart hard.”

“Wow, Lindsey, I’d say you got yourself a handful here,” Chance stated.

Lindsey gave Chance a stubborn look. “Don’t think I’d ever give you permission as my friend’s bodyguard. She needs a bodyguard for protection from you.” She pointed her finger at Chance. Trevor grabbed it and stuck it in his mouth. Lindsey yanked it out, laughing.

Chance looked up at Olivia and winked, mouthing, “my turn tonight.”

Chapter Nine

“Time for you and Lindsey to leave, buddy,”
Chance said through telepathic pack-talk to Trevor. Chance noticed something obvious when the two of them walked in. Lindsey wore Trevor’s mark, the mark of his primal-mate. It was probably why Lindsey responded so quick and strong toward Trevor. He doubted Trevor even realized it, big-talking womanizer he made himself out to be. Chance grinned inside, another one bites the dust. Then wondered, what was the chance of two women in the same pack, so to speak, and two men in the same pack getting together at the same time? Too many “sames.”

“Hey, darlin’, it’s time to scoot. Can I follow you home?” Trevor draped his arm possessively around Lindsey’s waist and lifted her out of the chair as he stood. “We’ll catch up tomorrow. Call me if you need me tonight.” Trevor winked at Chance.

“Thanks for coming. I’ll call if anything merits it tonight,” Chance said.

“Chance is not staying,” Lindsey said, glaring at Olivia.

“Lindsey, we had this conversation earlier. Don’t force me to make a choice between my best friend and Chance.” Olivia walked over and hugged her friend. “Go, I’ll be fine. I’ll be more than fine.”

Lindsey gave Chance the “eye,” a repeat of the one he got from her earlier. She gave Olivia another hug. “I’ll be here first thing in the morning.”

“Night, Lindsey.” Olivia walked Lindsey and Trevor to the back door. Chance followed. The sun was sinking fast in the fall sky.

He’d made the call setting things up for Jasmine earlier. She should already be en route to Dr. Linden’s lab. He hoped tonight Olivia could relax and sleep after her rough day. She needed an uneventful, rogue-pack-free night.

A cellphone rang inside the house. Olivia ran to answer it. Chance stood by the outside door, ears pricked.

“Hi Lacey. I know I haven’t called in a report. It’s been rather busy here.” Chance heard Olivia walk farther inside and decided it was time for his run around the parameter. He jogged in human-form along the tree line, scanning, listening, scenting, and tasting the air. Nothing out of nature’s ordinary.

Olivia stood at a window on her back porch when he stepped back inside.

“Everything looks good out there.”

Olivia’s eyes still wandered across the back yard and barn.

“Don’t worry. Lindsey took care of the animals tonight. Let’s make this an inside evening.” Chance wanted Olivia, naked, wrapped in his arms, consummating their relationship, claiming his mate.
Will she want to spend the rest of her life with me?

“Maybe now would be a good time for a shower. I do owe you a little something-something. Are you ready to collect?” Olivia sounded light, yet sultry. Her tongue slid between her lips, burning a trail inside Chance all the way to his cock.

Lindsey made it sound like Olivia swore off all men, most especially because of trust issues. His lies to her weighed heavy. He hurt her the worst way possible. She called him on those lies earlier, and he hadn’t admitted or denied anything. He thought of her tears after he pleasured her, which made him feel more like the beast he’d been tracking. If he wanted Olivia’s love, he needed to come clean, but how?

Olivia reached for Chance’s hand, twining her fingers through his, and led him through the kitchen toward the bathroom.

Chance stopped her, released her fingers, and lifted her hair, feathering kisses down the back of her neck. Her passion-filled scent of honey and almonds calmed the wolf inside, but stirred his human counter-part into a state of arousal. “I’d like you nice and relaxed, maybe have my way with you.” He pressed himself into her backside. “Let’s set your debt to me on the back burner for tonight.” Chance nipped her under the ear, and then suckled her ear lobe. His arms weaved around her shoulders and her body trembled beneath them. He dropped his hands lower and cupped her breasts. She arched into his palms.

“It’s my turn,” Olivia whispered through little pants. She grabbed his hands and pulled him along into the bathroom. “Welcome to Olivia’s house of pleasure.” She moved him aside, closed and locked the door. “In case we get any unwelcomed visitors, like one of your associates.”

“Locked door is good. It will keep out your spy, Lindsey.” He chuckled. “Although, I have a feeling she and Trevor will be all sewed up with each other tonight.”

“You know something I don’t?”

Chance ignored the question and instead unbuttoned her flannel shirt. It fell to the floor. She wore a black lacy bra beneath, but before he could slip his hands behind and undo the catch, Olivia unclasped it. He watched her unzip her jeans, slide them down her slender legs, and kick them away with one foot. His breathing stopped. She stood in front of him in black lace panties and black cotton socks, quite the endearing combo. He bent down and lifted a leg, kissing her calf, while she steadied herself on one foot.

“You may pull off my sock. I don’t think I can do that and look sexy.” Her lips lifted at the corners in a shy way as he peeled one sock off and then the other. “Chance, I’m going to fall on my butt if you don’t let my leg down.” Her hands latched onto his hair, while his hands climbed her leg. He guided it around his waist, melding his body against hers.

Their gazes locked, sending whips of electricity down his belly, ending in the uncomfortable heaviness at his center. He took full possession of Olivia’s sensual trembling lips, plunging his tongue between them. She moaned against his mouth and another snapping whip shot through his body. Her hands dropped, sliding down between their bodies. She opened the button and zipper of his jeans, releasing his raging prisoner into her gentle fingers. His hips automatically thrust forward and her fingers wrapped tightly around his cock, squeezing with tiny twists. His knees buckled.

“What are you doing to me, woman?” Chance whispered against her lips. Olivia broke away.

“Shower time, big boy.” Her fingers gently squeezed him and then she let go. She stepped over and turned on the water. He yanked his shirt off while following her. She slipped out of her underwear and then tugged down his jeans. Olivia wrapped one hand around him, her lips slightly parting. Chance wrapped his arms around her, hands cupping her buttocks and dragging her against him. His lips brushed her parted lips and Olivia relaxed into his palms, into his kiss.

Steam wafted out the shower door, settling over their skin.

“It’s ready and waiting for us,” Olivia breathed the words against his lips. He pulled the glass door further open. They both walked inside a shower large enough for a crowd, with seats and shelves built into the tile walls. There were three shower heads the size of truck tires hanging over head dropping water like a gentle rain.

“Damn, I could get used to this.” Chance looked at Olivia then, his heart melting when her violet eyes met his. “Olivia, do you believe in love at first sight?” He didn’t wait for an answer before he pulled her body into his, skin to skin, shivering warm, his arousal still nestled inside her tight gripping fingers, and again he kissed her full and hard. His erection twitched for release.

Olivia gasped, breathless, shaking, and broke from his kiss. “You’re distracting me,” she whispered. Her velvety words sent a twinge through his cock, a sexy warning of things to come. Literally as well as physically, he hoped.

She kissed the corner of his mouth, his chin, and his neck, moving lower and setting a fire at the end of every nerve in his body. Her tongue circled his nipples and then headed even lower. His breath caught, he thought he’d come right then, and her lips hadn’t even touched his cock.

It really had been too long since he’d been with a woman, but then Olivia was no ordinary woman, she was the woman he loved. And he loved her with all of himself. He hadn’t realized it until this moment. Thanks to all the research, he knew more about her than she probably would remember about herself.

He needed his thoughts focused on something else, but when her tongue flicked around the rim of his cock, every cell ignited. His hips thrust in response as her tongue licked and fluttered, pressing around his cock all the time she suckled.

His testicles tightened and his body stiffened, God, he was coming. He pushed Olivia’s head away so he wouldn’t explode inside her mouth, but her lips clung tight, her mouth like a sensual milking machine.

“No, Olivia, not inside your mouth. I can’t stop, you…move.” She squeezed his sac and a roar belted out from deep within his chest. His hips plunged forward, rocking into Olivia’s sweet mouth, his entire body electrified with sensitivities he’d never experienced before Olivia. Her throat closed around the head of his cock and she swallowed his semen. Because of that little faux pas, Chance knew her abilities were about to change and he’d need an explanation, but not tonight.

“Mmmm, should we do that again?” Olivia lifted her face toward the raining water, her tongue still flicking over the slit on the head of his cock. As he watched her, a rush of hot blood thickened his not so semi-hard erection.

“I’m not sure I can handle another ecstatic adventure so soon after my first one,” his voice sounded shaky in his own ears, he wondered if Olivia picked up on it. “Perhaps it’s my turn at pleasuring you. Say, we meet in your bed in about twenty minutes?” He pulled her up, separating his full blown erection from her tantalizing tongue. He kissed her deep and her body melted into his. Her fingers coiled around his arousal and slipped it between her thighs. The heat and silky moisture of her folds burned across his cock. His hips moved back and forth, gliding along her slick softness.

“Hey, boss-man, ya got anything going on? If not, I got something here I need to take care of, if you know what I mean. Damn, this little darlin’ is hot for me.”
Thank God Trevor interrupted. Chance came so close, doing the unthinkable without giving Olivia a choice.
