She swallowed the lump that threatened to choke her. “Deal.”

In the other room they could hear the music starting, signaling the beginning of the service.

Jace pressed his mouth to the hair at her temple and breathed her in, filling himself with the clean, fresh scent of her. “As soon as this is over, I’ll race you to the cabin.”

“Tonight?”

“I don’t think I could wait another night. Say ‘yes,’ Hollywood.”

She drew back and stared into his eyes, seeing a look of such hunger that her heart did another free fall. But she took a deep breath, determined to bargain. “I’ll consider it. What does the winner get?”

“A wedding. In that little chapel near the cabin.” He saw her eyes mist again.

“And the loser?”

He grinned, dragged her close. “A wedding. In that little chapel near the cabin.”

“Covering all your bets, aren’t you, Jace?”

“You bet, Hollywood. I learned from the expert. This time, win or lose, I have no intention of letting you get away. What do you say?”

She had no need for words. With all her feelings right there in her eyes for him to read, she wrapped her arms around his neck and offered her lips. Her kiss spoke of a passion so deep, they were both rocked by it. And of trust that this time, they would make it work. And of love. So much love.

Not the stuff of movies or novels. The real thing.

Enough love to last for a lifetime and beyond.

Special thanks and acknowledgment are given to Ruth Langan for her contribution to THE FORTUNES OF TEXAS series.
