When it was over and they were both spent, they dressed and shared another cigarette. Neither of them spoke; but, every time one would catch the other’s eyes, they’d smile or giggle. There was nothing to say, right now, and they both knew the moment was so tenuous it could be destroyed with the wrong words.

 

Eventually, the door opened, and two of Rich’s club mates came out. They lit cigarettes, and one of them glanced and saw Rich, who nodded. He nodded back and looked Rich and Angie over, but he kept his distance.

 

“Let’s get out of here,” Rich said. “Get a drink someplace quiet.”

 

Angie looked out over the gravel, at the two bikers, and then at the door to the bar.

 

“Unless you don’t want to be seen with a lowlife like me, now that you’re a celebrity?”

 

“I could use a drink,” Angie said.

 

Rich got up and reached a hand to pull her up. They left the bar behind, arm-in-arm, and walked into the darkness of the parking lot.
