the end
I loved writing
Practice Cake
, the first Life in Saltwater City book, and including details from my home, Vancouver. I wanted to continue with something similar, but not a sequel. I came up with the title,
Smart Mouth Waitress
, and wrote the opening, in which two characters from
Practice Cak
e cross paths with Peridot Martin, on the east side of the city, and inspire her to try some changes in her life.
The protagonists of the two books are both eighteen, and they share a connection in their names. Maddie's last name is Bird, and Perry's last name is Martin, which is a type of bird.
SMW
is the first book I've published that doesn't contain a Star Wars reference. (That I'm aware of.)
Peridot was such a fun character to write, because she says what's on her mind, and she's a jerk sometimes, but she doesn't mean it. I love her relationship with her younger brother, Garnet. The ending of the book surprised me. Maybe you saw it coming, but I didn't. I love it when characters surprise me!
If you enjoyed this story, I hope you'll consider posting a review on Amazon. Reviews really help independent authors, and reviews on Amazon only need to be about twenty words long at minimum.
