Watching her lick her lips as she tasted her own sweetness, triggered a wildness he hadn’t felt before and felt little power to control.

He pulled her towards him and ripped off the pajama top.

His roughness caught her off guard, but she willingly let him position her on all fours.

She looked back when the elastic of his pants snapped as he yanked them down, releasing the thick cock now poised and ready to enter her.

Her eyes widened at the sight and she braced for what was coming.

He grabbed her ass with both hands and squeezed, drawing them closer together until her lips were open on his flesh.

She wanted nothing more than to slide onto his cock and feel it filling up every inch of space inside her, but he was too big and his help was required.

His hands controlled her every move as they dug into the round flesh before him and rocked her hips back and forth until the full length of his cock was surrounded by her warmth.

Mia gasped in response and collapsed on her elbows giving him a perfect view of his cock moving in and out of her wetness.

It was long and strong, providing perfect pressure and friction against her clit.

Loud groans bubbled out of her as he pounded away with complete abandon.

She tried to relax and exhale, but every muscle was on high alert from the sheer pleasure of his flesh smacking against her.

She lost all control as he continued thrusting harder and faster.

Her moans and screams filled the night air as she clenched against him and coated his cock with her cream.

Peter start to quiver as he made several final deep thrusts.

His cock throbbed with power she’d never felt before as he released his cum as deep as her canal allowed.

He collapsed on top of her, briefly flattening her against the floor.

He disengaged and rolled to the side, stroking her body gently with his free hand.

"That was amazing.

I knew it would be," he said, pulling her onto his chest.

"I don’t think I’ll be able to walk for a few weeks," she said as she tried to catch her breath.

"Sorry," he laughed.

"I sort of lost control.

Did I hurt you?"

"I’m not complaining."

She dug her face into his chest and wrapped her arm across him.

They snuggled together and lightly brushed their palms together.

She clasped her fingers through his and tilted her head to examine the garden.

"This place really is unbelievable.

It reminds me of my favorite spot in the park."

He hesitated.

He didn’t want to ruin the moment, but knew he would never find a perfect time.

"The thicket?"

She rose up on her elbows.

"Yes.

How do you know about the thicket?"

"I’ve been there a few times myself."

"Really?

Imagine if we’d run into each other there too.

It would be kismet."

He stroked her face.

"Kismet," he said softly.

"Are you thirsty?"

"Ice water would be good."

"One ice water coming up."

He slowly worked his way to a standing position.

His lack of speed was partially due to the energy he just expended, but mostly due to fear and dread.

He hated having to be the bearer of bad news, not that being a shifter was bad news.

It was just out of the realm of understanding for most people.

Hopefully she wouldn’t hate the messenger.

He waited a few moments in the living room before shifting.

She was still lying on her back with her eyes closed when walked back out and lightly nuzzled her hand.

She smiled and stretched her arms overhead.

As she brought them back down, one hand grazed his fur.

Her eyes shot open and she released a startled scream when she saw him.

"It’s you!"

She smiled and reached forward to pet him.

"I didn’t mean to scream.

You just scared me."

She looked behind him expecting to see Peter running out.

"Peter," she called out softly.

"Peter."

"Peter!"

The wolf licked her hand and turned to enter the penthouse through the sliding glass door.

She got up to follow and nearly smacked into Peter as he was exiting.

"Where have you been?

The wolf was here!"

She tried to move past him, but he blocked her path and placed both hands on her shoulders.

"I know it sounds crazy.

It really was a wolf," she continued.

"He went inside.

You didn’t see him?"

He looked into her eyes and smiled.

"I saw him.

I brought him here for you."

"What?

How did you know about him?

That’s Max … I should have explained but—"

"It’s okay.

Take a deep breath."

He leaned in and kissed her forehead.

"You can visit him whenever you like."

"I can?

You own the wolf?"

"I guess you could say that."

He held her face with his hands and whispered.

"I
am
the wolf."

"Excuse me?

What do you mean?"

"I’m a shifter, Mia.

I think you need to have a seat so I can explain."

She was dazed and quiet as he led her back to the couch.

She wrapped herself with a blanket, suddenly feeling the need to be covered in front of him.

He sat with her for over an hour detailing his family history and how he’d worked his way to riches.

He described the feeling he had when he saw her for the first time and how her voice and scent had led the way.

"I have no idea if I went about this the wrong way.

I didn’t want to lose you.

I
don’t
want to lose you.

I’m just asking for a chance."

He grabbed her hands and held them against his chest.

"Just a chance."

The dazed look hadn’t left her face.

"I just need time to think about everything."

She got up to leave.

"This is a lot to take in."

"Of course.

Take all the time you need.

Let’s grab your clothes and Charles can drive you home."

Mia nodded and silently followed him back to the office.

She stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror as she got dressed.

What the fuck just happened?

It started out so good.

Shifter?

Really, a shifter?

This can’t be happening.

Charles had the car running when she got downstairs.

She entered the backseat quickly and silently, leaving Peter standing on the curb with only a wave goodbye.

As the car made its way to her building, Mia and Charles shared glances in the rearview mirror.

"Are you one of them?" she asked.

"I am."

He sat quietly for a few moments before adding, "It’s not a bad life.

Different?

Yes.

Bad?

Not at all."

"Why me?"

"Why not you?

He fell for you the moment he saw you.

The heart wants what it wants."

She leaned her head back on the seat and let the thoughts swirl around in her head.

She liked the wolf.

She really liked Peter.

She really, really liked how he’d made her feel.

Her body temperature rose from the mere thought of his kiss.

Mia felt safe with him before he told her.

Had anything really changed?

"We’re here," Charles said as he parked in front of her building.

He got out and opened the door for her.

"He really is a good guy," he added.

"I promise you."

She nodded silently.

Is he really a guy?

He felt real.

He is, but … this is too much.

She made her way to her apartment and collapsed on the bed.

Tears escaped and ran down her face.

Unsure what part of the evening had triggered them; she let them fall and soon drifted to sleep from mental and physical exhaustion.

Chapter Five

"Has she contacted you yet?"

Charles poked his head into Peter’s office and found him staring out the window.

"No."

"Want to drive by the school?"

He shook his head.

"I have an idea.

I’m going to call her.

Can you have the limo ready tomorrow night?"

"You got it.

Good luck."

Peter shook out his fingers and cracked his neck as he worked up his courage.

He dialed her cell phone and it rang several times before going into voicemail.

He tried her apartment phone next and was about to hang up after the fourth ring when her voice suddenly echoed through the ear piece.

"Hello?"

"Mia?

It’s Peter."

"Was that you calling my cell phone?

I was helping my neighbor carry in her groceries."

"It was.

Sorry to bother you, but I haven’t heard from you and…"

"I was going to call you later.

It’s just been a busy week."

"Well, I was wondering if you’d like to go out tomorrow night?

I have a surprise for you."

"Okay."

"Yes?

Oh good!"

"Where are we going?"

"It’s a surprise."

"Dinner?"

"I think we have different ideas of what ‘surprise’ means," he said with a laugh.

"Sorry.

Can you at least tell me what I should wear?"

"You can’t go wrong with a dress.

I’ll see you tomorrow at seven."

"See you soon."

Peter was shocked it was that easy and kicked himself for waiting so long.

He quickly went about putting his plan into action.

She was waiting for him the next evening and started walking down the steps as soon as the car pulled up.

Her hair was pulled up in front leaving the curls to cascade freely down her yellow dress.

"Your power color again.

You are stunning."

He pointed at the yellow square peeking out of his pocket.

"I had a feeling."

"A limo this time?

Very fancy."

He had champagne chilled and ready.

"What should we toast to?"

"Surprises," she said with a smile.

"To surprises … and taking chances."

They brought their glasses together and sipped the bubbly as the car zipped along the West Side Highway to the surprise location.

Mia leaned over and kissed him, grabbing his hand and giving it a playful squeeze.

"So, I’m curious about this shifting business.

Can you do it for me now?"

"Now?

I got all cleaned up and fancy for you?"

"You have all this room in the limo.

Please!

I miss my Max.

Just one more time."

She leaned over and grazed his crotch with her hand.

"Pretty please," she whispered.

"I’ll make it worth your while."
