Author's Note

Set in Stone started as an oral story. In our home, we have a long tradition of making up stories, but the kids got more and more challenging with their demands. Often one of them would say as we jumped in the car, "Okay dad, we've got half an hour. Let's have a story with a wizard, a necromancer, a warrior and a bunch of orcs. Go!"

It was tons of fun, but honestly I started feeling exhausted. It was hard to keep up. So I told Kate and Kyle, my demanding, story-loving older children that they had to help me come up with a cool magic system and then we'd develop some fun stories using it. I figured I'd get a breather, and we'd see what they could come up with.

They came up with Petralists.

I thought it was a cool idea, so I sent them off to research different types of stones, and then we brainstormed what we could do with the story. The original idea didn't resemble Set in Stone very much, but it was a good start. We called our main protagonist George and launched a series of crazy adventures with him that spanned Obrion and Granadure and helped develop the core concepts of the story.

It became one of our family's all-time most popular stories, so I decided to write it down. It has matured and evolved into what it is today, but its publication is a special milestone for us.

I hope you enjoyed this story. Check my website
