Katarina reached over to the bedside lamp. She looked back at me. “Do you mind?” I shook my head, and she turned off the lamp. Now the only light came from the street, casting a soft glow over the foot of the bed.

I listened and felt the bed move as she settled down beside me, the satin moving with an almost illicit whisper against the sheets. The moment seemed charged with a strange energy, somehow, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. It was so quiet that I could hear the quiet breathing from each of us. We laid there like that for a minute or so, neither of us breaking the intimate silence.

“I’m scared, Candace,” said Katarina suddenly. There was a rustle as she turned in the bed to face me. We were so close that I could feel the cool touch of her breath on my skin, causing goosebumps to rise up on my flesh.

“I just feel so…
lost
,” she said, her voice barely a whisper. “Do you feel lost?”

Sudden tears stung my eyes. “…Yes,” I said, in a quavering voice. I felt all the uncertainty of the night pressing down on me, all the questions and worries finally boiling to the surface all at once. I took a deep breath and tried to get my thoughts in order. There were few thoughts left, to tell the truth – at this point in the night, emotion had taken over completely, and I was left floundering in a way that I had never felt before.

In response to my words, she moved over and pressed her body against mine, wrapping her arms around me. I put an arm around her and pulled her closer, enjoying the feeling of her curves nestled against my own.

“It’s all right, Candace,” she whispered.

And then, after hesitating a moment, she leaned over and kissed my cheek.

When she kissed me, I froze. I didn’t know what to do – I didn’t know what to
think.
In the uncertainty of this moment, the kiss broke through my barriers like a stone through glass. I knew she felt this, the creeping sexual tension, same as I did. Her body felt so soft and warm, so exciting, that I wanted to touch her everywhere. But my curiosity was tempered by fear, and the distinct feeling that
we shouldn’t be doing this.
My body felt like 10,000 volts were running through it, and I couldn’t ignore the warm, buzzing feeling of arousal intensifying in my belly. But I was too terrified of making the first move – what if this was all in my head?

“Candace?” she whispered, burying her face against my neck. The chill shooting down my spine was strong enough to rival anything Mr. Stevens had done to me. I had to take a moment and let it run its course before trusting myself to speak.

“I’m here,” I said, in a breathy voice. At the sound of my voice, she pulled back to look at me, leaning over me now with a leg on either side of my body. How had we ended up in this sensual position?  Her eyes were bright, and they’d grown wide with unspoken questions. The front of her gown had fallen open slightly, exposing her body just a bit, and we both looked down at her chest at the same moment. She looked back up at me, and when her eyes met mine I saw a hunger in them that rivaled my own.

That look was all the encouragement I needed. Throwing all caution to the wind, I lifted my head just enough to press my lips gently against hers.

She let out a small noise, surprised to feel my lips searching against hers, but in the next instant she kissed me back eagerly. Her hands slid along the straps of my gown, her fingertips pressing underneath to caress my heated skin. It was a strange feeling, being touched by a woman. It felt delicious and dangerous, and just enough of a taboo to be a turn-on. She opened her mouth in a sensuous half-smile, and leaned down against my ear as her fingers gently pulled my gown open.

“We don’t have to go too far,” she panted in my ear. “We can just make out like this. We can just play, just a bit. It’ll be all right.” I heard what she was saying, but the hot moisture of her breath was saying something else entirely. I groaned in pleasure and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her body down to my own. Our breasts pressed against each other, and I could feel our hard nipples teasing each other’s bodies, separated only by a thin wisp of fabric. I’d never felt that before, and it was turning me on in ways I’d never imagined.

She kissed me again, harder this time. It was obvious she’d done this before. Her fingertips touched, teased and caressed my body, and soon enough we were naked together under the sheets. She slipped her thigh between my own legs and pressed upwards, hard against me. The wetness I felt made me realize just how turned I was. I grabbed the back of her thigh and pulled it against myself, grinding against her leg and moaning at the sensations it was sending through my body. “Oh, my God,” I gasped, as the feelings intensified. I looked up at her and saw her eyes flashing with arousal, watching me buck and writhe beneath her.

I pulled myself up onto my elbows, curious as to what I could do to her. I slipped my fingers down to the inside of her knee and traced a line slowly up her thigh. As I reached the apex of her legs, she moaned against my mouth and moved a bit to allow me better access. She moaned again when I pressed my fingers there. She was as hot and wet as I was, just like me, but somehow different. I began to explore, pressing my fingers into her, swirling them around her clit, touching all the places that I thought might turn her on. “Fuck,” she yelped. She pulled herself off of me and flopped over next to me on the bed, lifting her hips and silently asking for more. I crawled over on top of her and took one of her pale, pink nipples into my mouth, sucking it gently and watching her eyes roll back into her head as I did it. My fingers slipped stealthily back into her. I found a steady rhythm, the same one that I used for myself when I was alone and needed to come. It worked for her too, because she soon arched her back and clenched the sheets with her delicate hands. She was surprisingly quiet, begging in a whisper, “don’t stop.” Grinning, I flicked her nipple with my tongue, causing another soft cry to escape her lips.

I didn’t stop. Soon I felt the change in her, a tightening that told me she was close. Her breath seemed to stop, and her eyes closed tight. She seemed to be moaning silently for a moment; then, the audible cry came, and I felt the throbbing of her pussy around my fingers. At the moment of climax, she pulled me close to her and dug her nails into my back. I relished the pain.

“Candace,” she finally breathed when she caught her breath and came back down to earth. From the look on her face and the feel of her body, she had obviously come very hard. “You are so good at that…”

She trailed off then, and her breathing slowed to a point where I thought she might have fallen asleep. But then she rose up with one elbow behind her, and smiled at me with a grin that was both sleepy and excited. “It’s your turn.”

Rolling over and pushing my down aggressively onto my back, she kissed me as her hand crept down between my legs. She didn’t tease or taunt me – she knew exactly what I wanted. She pressed her long fingers right against my clit, where I was wet enough to show her exactly how badly I wanted this. She swallowed my moans with her mouth as she stroked me, her fingers sliding in and out, teasing my clit every time. She finally focused just on that one sensitive spot, strumming it with her fingers while she hovered over me, kissing me harder. It felt just like when a man did it, but at the same time, there was something distinctly different. There was a certain intuitive knowledge she had about just where to touch me, when and how hard to vary the pressure. I had always been curious as to whether a woman’s deep understanding of her own body would translate into pleasure for another woman, and now I knew. Katarina was playing me like a master musician with a fine violin, drawing my pleasure out in perfectly spaced increments until I was begging for sweet release.

And release didn’t take long. I was so ready to come after watching the show she’d given me that it only took a few minutes before I felt myself going over the edge. When the orgasm came, I cried out with the intensity of it. She laughed against my lips as I rode out the strong climax. When I could finally catch my breath, I looked at her in the dim light.

“What are you laughing at?” I said, my breath still heaving.

“Oh, nothing,” she said. “Just how much you enjoyed that.”
She was smiling, and for a moment all the pain and worry of the last few hours was gone. There was nothing but intense, pleasurable satisfaction, along with the thrill of exploring something new.

But then, just as quickly, the light in her eyes changed, and I was sure she could see the reflection of the same change in mine. We’d momentarily escaped the painful reality of what had happened that evening, finding solace in other’s bodies for a few brief minutes. But soon enough, inevitably, reality sank in again.

She rolled over to the side of me and slung an arm over my body, pulling me close to her in a warm, comforting embrace.

“Maybe now we can both get some sleep,” she whispered.

Chapter 4: The Next Morning

I awoke the next morning to find Katarina’s arms still wrapped around me, and it took me a moment to get my bearings. As the memory of last night flashed suddenly across my mind, my eyes sprang open with worry.
Oh my God
, I said to myself.
I can’t believe that happened.

Katarina woke, too, at the sound of my movement. She stretched and yawned sleepily, smiling at me with no trace of the worry I felt. “Hey,
you,
” she said. “You doing okay?”

I admit to admit that I really did feel a lot better. “…Yeah,” I said finally. “But listen, Katarina, about last night –”

She put a hand in front of her lips,
as if
to stop me before I started. “It’s fine, Candace,” she said. “It was what we needed
at the time
. Let’s leave it at that.” I nodded, thankful that I didn’t have to try and explain what I was feeling. She was a more understanding woman than I’d realized.

Just then, my phone beeped. The sound caused both of us to perk up with a start. We looked at each other, not needing to vocalize the question we were both thinking:
Is it him?
I grabbed for my phone, and let out a sharp cry of relief as I saw Mr. Stevens’ name on the screen.

“He sent a text,” I cried, my fingers mashing the buttons frantically in my excitement to open the message as fast as possible. He’d sent it at 4:50 in the morning – no wonder it hadn’t woken us from our sleep.

I read the message aloud: “I’m safe. Go to office. I’ll be there soon.”

I threw up my hands in frustration. “That’s
it?
Nine words?” I looked at Katarina for support. Here we were, burning up with questions, and that’s all he can say? “I can’t
believe
this guy sometimes,” I said.

She didn’t seem to share my exasperation; her face was clouded, instead, with worry. “He’s got his reasons,” she said. “He would have called if he’d been able. I don’t like the looks of this, Candace.”

I froze as I realized she was right.

She’d already jumped out of bed and was gathering her clothes together. “We’d better get to the office as fast as we can,” she said.
Her words propelled me into action. I put away all my thoughts and questions for the time being, and let myself go into auto-pilot mode as I hurried to throw on my clothes and gather my things. Within two minutes flat, we were ready to go

and
as we stepped out of my apartment, I couldn’t help but wonder how long it would be before I saw it again.

Carl was waiting for us
with the Town
C
ar, just as he’d promised. I doubt
ed
he’d gone home at all. He was awake, but looked
sleepy, with dark bags under his eyes that made him appear ten years older than he normally did. H
e didn’t see us leave the house, and
he
sat up with a start when he saw us approaching the car. He fumbled out of his seat, trying to open the doors for us

always
the gentleman, after all – but we were too fast for him. We clambered into the backseat of the car and had buckled our seatbelts before he’d even had time to blink.

“Uh, well, good morning, ladies,” he
managed, trying to compose himself. It might have been funny, if we weren’t in such an anxious rush. “Where to?”
