Epilogue

“What are you doing?” Tabbart’s head popped around Stowe’s body to see what he’d just laid on the checkout counter. She had on dark glasses but it was obvious to anyone who she was, wearing expensive clothes with her hair down.

The cashier looked from the tabloid on the counter to him, then to Tabbart. Back at the magazine. Her jaw dropped.

“Yes, it’s us,” he said in his best drawl and threw a bill on the counter.

Tabbart ducked her head but not before he saw her grin. “Buying reading material for the flight?”

“Yes, and I want to send it to my mum. She’ll want a copy or twelve.” The moment captured on the cover was the one just after Stowe had filled Tabbart’s mouth with whipped cream and he was kissing it off her. The headline was “Whipped Cream Wedding Bells.”

The cashier handed him change, her mouth still agape. He thanked her, took the tabloid and slipped an arm around Tabbart.

As they made their way through the airport to the private gate where they’d board her jet, she asked him questions. “When will we have calves? When can they be ridden? Do you train them to buck or do they just do that because they’re wild?”

Smiling, he placed a finger over her lips. “I promise you’ll know it all, but not until we get to Texas.”

“Are we really going to stay at the Boot Knockers Ranch?”

“Unless you want to sleep under the stars, love. There’s no house.”

“We’ll build one with a great kitchen. We can shoot from there.”

He met her gaze, and she backtracked.

“You’re the one who gave me the idea. Would that be a terrible idea?”

He stopped walking and took her in his arms. “It would be an amazing idea. I’m glad I thought of it.”

She smacked him lightly on the arm. “Everything I own is yours.”

“And everything I own is yours. But I’ll let you design the kitchen.”

“I suppose you’ll do the bedroom.”

“Damn straight.”

“Will there be…” She dropped her gaze, then returned it to his in that way that steamed his blood every time. “…a cross there?”

“Yes.”

She shivered. He squeezed her once and started walking again. They were greeted at the gate and waved onto the plane. As he followed Tabbart to the plush leather seats, he pictured a dozen ways to make her part of the mile-high club.

Trouble was, he didn’t have a crop or rope on him. Then he remembered the magazine in his hand.

He eyed the round ass swaying in front of him, rolled the magazine and delivered a loud crack. She gave a satisfying yelp, then tossed a come-hither look over her shoulder. He felt his grin creep from his heart to his face.

They were going to have one hell of a life.
