Chapter Four

The
glass had shattered against the wall, water dripping onto the carpet. The
momentary satisfaction faded and Bridget looked for something else to throw.
She eyed the alarm clock, but decided against it. She wouldn’t put holes in the
walls. Something told her Micah wouldn’t be so forgiving if she redecorated his
room. She wanted to scream.

“Rat
bastard, putting me in his bed.”

She
stumbled to her feet, righted her clothes, and went into the adjoining bath
where she shrieked at her appearance in the mirror. Her mascara had smeared and
her hair was a wreck. Bridget snatched Micah’s brush off the counter and worked
through the knots in her long tresses before turning on the water. She used the
soap in the dish to scrub the makeup from her face.

“Not
much of an improvement,” she muttered, turning her face from side to side as
she studied her reflection. She wasn’t so vain that she had to wear make-up
every time she left her house, but it certainly improved her features when she
did.

She
followed the sounds of a party and made her way through the back of the house.
When she reached the door, she peered through the glass at the gathered wolves.
She so wasn’t up for this shit … but since Josette had hijacked her the night
before,
she had little choice but to go mingle, even if
walking the five miles to her house was rather tempting. She looked down at her
bare feet, wiggled her toes and thought about the high heels she’d had on.
Maybe she’d rethink the walk.

Bracing
herself for the rambunctious wolves, she stepped out into the sunshine,
squinting up at the sky. Her head pounded. Her mouth felt like sandpaper, and her
eyes felt like they could fall out of her head. Why had she finished a bottle
of whiskey? She knew the damn stuff would kick her ass, but it was always the
first place she turned when upset. Her mother, a renowned psychiatrist, would
tell her that was addiction talking.

But
then, she’d never listened to her mother, so why start now?

Bronson,
one of the most sought-after males in the pack, eyed her up and down as she
crossed the deck and went down the steps toward the pool. He whistled low as
his gaze stopped at her bare feet.

“Bad
night?” he asked.

“Shove
it up your ass, Bronson. As if you and everyone else in this town didn’t know
what happened yesterday. They probably posted it in the damn newspaper:
Bridget Donohue stood up at the altar by
spineless groom
.”

He
grinned. “I may have heard something about it. Doesn’t tell me why you’re
coming out of the alpha’s house looking a bit disheveled. Moved on already? Or
did you just have an itch to scratch?” He moved closer. “Because you know, I’d
be happy to help with that.”

She
snorted and shoved him hard, but the bastard was quick on his feet and avoided
a dunk into the pool. His laughter followed her as she sought out Josette, the
traitor. She couldn’t believe her friend had brought her to Micah’s house, of
all places. As her best friend, shouldn’t she have helped Bridget avoid the one
man she hated above all others, right now?

Josette
smiled when she saw her. “I was hoping you wouldn’t sleep the day away.”

Bridget
looked around. “Where are your other friends? Shouldn’t they be here?”

“Cade
and Breena are supposed to come, but I haven’t seen them yet. You know how they
are. Probably got caught up in each other and forgot what day it was. They’re
still in the honeymoon phase.”

“Those
two will be in the honeymoon phase for the next fifty years. If I didn’t know
better, I’d say they were trying to have a litter of pups already.”

Josette
rolled her eyes. “You know we only have one baby at a time, just like you do.
Why do you insist on antagonizing everyone with your derogatory wolf remarks?
You’re just asking for trouble.”

Bridget
smiled. “But I like trouble. Especially when it comes in tall, mouthwatering
packages.”

A
sly smile crossed Josette’s face. “Like a certain alpha we both know?”

“I’ll
concede that he’s nice looking, but he’s too bossy for me. You know I’ll never
bow or scrape to any man.”

“The
two of you need each other. He needs a strong woman in his life … and I can’t
think of anyone stronger than you.” Josette smiled. “Besides, I’ve heard he can
make your toes curl with just a touch. Don’t tell me you aren’t even a little
bit tempted.”

A
throat cleared behind Bridget, and she watched the blood drain from Josette’s
face. Bridget turned slowly and came face to bare chest with the wolf himself.
She fought to lift her gaze to his face.

“I
see you’re feeling better,” Micah said.

“My
head feels like a hundred hammers are pounding on it, but I’ll live.”

His
gaze went to Josette. “I told you not to start trouble. I was very clear on my
feelings about your idea of taking Bridget for a mate. Don’t force me to make
an example out of you. It’s the last thing I want to do.”

Josette
nodded quickly. “I’m sorry, Alpha, but I truly believe the two of you are
destined to be together. If only you’d give each other a chance, you’d find out
you aren’t so different from one another. You actually have a lot in common.”

“Enough.”
Micah gave her a stern look and his tone backed it up.

Bridget
wanted to jump to her friend’s aid, but she knew better than to get between an alpha
and a member of his pack. Josette might be her friend, and she might be
convinced Micah wanted Bridget, but there were some things you just didn’t
attempt. Chastising Micah for speaking to Josette that way would be the
equivalent of poking a bear.

“Yes,
Alpha,” Josette said in a small voice.

Bridget
hated to see her friend like this. Josette was the kindest, sweetest person
Bridget had ever met. Unfortunately, she let everyone run right over her. She
supposed it was just in Josette’s nature, but Bridget wished she’d get a
backbone at some point and stand up for herself. Bridget wouldn’t take half the
crap the wolves threw at Josette, not without taking a swing.

“Hey,
Fido. Why don’t you back the fuck off?” Bridget said, poking her finger in
Micah’s chest.
So much for not poking the
bear.
“She’s just trying to look out for us, even if I don’t agree with her
methods. As if I’d ever go out with the likes of
you
.”

Micah
growled and his eyes flashed yellow. “You’re assuming I’d have a smartass,
mouthy woman like you in my bed. I’d be scared to sleep for fear you’d stab me
while I was unconscious. Hell, you’d probably poison my dinner if I so much as
looked at you the wrong way.”

Bridget
placed a hand on her hip. “And what’s wrong with that? Scared of a woman who
won’t take any of your shit? Because really, the whole alpha thing is getting
old. There’s a difference between being a leader and being a bully.”

His
eyes went from gold to red and Bridget fought hard not to take a step back.
She’d stand her ground no matter what he said or did. It wasn’t just herself
she was standing up for, but Josette too, and any other woman Micah Smythe
decided to run over.

“I
have
never
been a bully. I have to
discipline those who act out or there would be utter chaos in the pack. If
there aren’t rules to follow, they would run wild and tear the town apart. Is
that what you want? Chaos to reign supreme? You’d like that, wouldn’t you?
Seeing my pack in all of their wild glory. It would give you even more reason
to look down your nose at us.”

She
gasped. “I do not look down my nose at your pack! Your omega is my dearest
friend. You take that back right now!” She poked his chest again.

Micah
swiftly reached out and grabbed the offending digit, jerking Bridget off
balance. She fell against him, her breasts plastered to his rock hard chest,
her hips settling against his. She swallowed hard when she felt the bulge in
his jeans.

“Maybe
someone needs to shut that smart mouth of yours before it gets you into
trouble.” Heat flared in his eyes as he fisted her hair in his hand. She opened
her mouth to tell him he was a rude, obnoxious prick, but before the words
could spill past her lips, he was kissing her.

His
mouth pressed to hers in a hard, bruising kiss, a kiss meant to punish as much
as it aroused. His tongue swept into her mouth and his taste overwhelmed her.
Bridget’s heart pounded in her chest and she found herself pressing even
tighter against the alpha, her panties growing damp. An ache built between her
legs and she couldn’t help but rub against him.

When
Micah pulled away and released her, clarity came rushing back and Bridget’s
eyes narrowed. “Asshole.”

He
smirked. “You liked it and you know it. You were practically begging me to fuck
you, right here in front of everyone.”

She
lashed out at him, but he caught her hand before it could connect with his
face. His eyes hardened and his lips thinned. Bridget felt a flash of panic as
she wondered what he would do. She didn’t think he was the type of man who
would hit a woman, but she didn’t really know him all that well.

Micah
jerked her closer, bent at the waist, and hoisted her over his shoulder.
Bridget let out a squeak of indignation and pounded on his back.

“You
put me down
right now
.”

He
swatted her ass and the sting made her freeze momentarily.

“Settle
down,” he demanded as he strode through the backyard and into the house.

Bridget
couldn’t see anything except his delectable ass, but she could feel everyone’s
eyes on them.
How humiliating
.

When
they reached his bedroom, he kicked the door shut and set her down on her feet.
Before she could blast him for his treatment of her, he’d jerked down her pants
and panties, and upended her over his knees. Her eyes widened in shock at the
quick movement and her mind tried to grasp what was happening to her.

She
felt his hand caress her ass cheeks a moment, before his hand struck her
sensitive skin. As his palm came down again, she let out a shriek and kicked
her feet, trying to find purchase on the floor to escape him.

“Did
you honestly think you would go unpunished if you tried to strike me a second
time?” he asked, his hand making contact again. Her ass was starting to burn,
as did her face when she realized his spanking wasn’t having the desired
effect. Moisture gathered between her thighs as each smack turned her on more
and more. What the hell was wrong with her?

She
heard him inhale and then he chuckled. “Perhaps this isn’t the right punishment
for you after all. Shall we come up with something else?”

His
fingers slid down the crack of her ass and teased her pussy. She moaned in
embarrassment as he discovered just how wet she’d become. How this domineering
man could turn her on was anyone’s guess. She should be fighting like a wild
cat right now, not biting her lips to keep from begging him to make her come.

“My,
oh my. Someone seemed to like their spanking.” His fingers teased her slit,
sliding back and forth. Every time he neared her clit, she squirmed a little,
hoping he would stroke her there. Bridget couldn’t think of a time she’d been
more turned on.

He
parted her lips before sliding a finger inside her, pumping it in and out
several times before removing it. A whimper escaped her lips as she wiggled on
his lap. His fingers returned and two slid into her as his thumb circled her
clit. Bridget gasped as she saw stars, but the stroking of his fingers wasn’t
enough. She needed so much more. As much as she hated herself for it, she
wanted to feel that long hard cock entering her. She had little doubt as to his
size, since his erection was pressing against her as she hung upside down over
his lap.

“Do
you want to come?” he asked, his voice a low growl.

“Yes,”
she gasped.

“Beg
me for it.”

She
clamped her lips shut.

“Beg
me for it, Bridget. Tell me what you want.”

“I
want to come,” she said through gritted teeth, the admission costing her
dearly.

“Just
like this?” he asked, his fingers fucking her slow and easy. “Or do you want
something more?”

“More,”
she pleaded. “I want more.”

His
soft chuckle filled the room. “But that would be a reward, would it not? Do you
think you deserve a reward?”

“Micah,
please.”

“Does
your pussy ache for me?”

“Yes.”

He
leaned down, his lips brushing against her shoulder. “What if that isn’t where
I want to take you?”

A
shiver raked her body.

“What
if I want to take you here?” he asked, sliding his fingers from her pussy and
stroking the rosette hidden between her cheeks. “Would you let me take you
there? Would you beg me for it? I think you would.”

He
circled the sensitive area, before using her cream to ease his finger inside of
her. She gasped at the intrusion, but knew what to do. She relaxed her muscles
and let him in, loving the slow burn of his finger caressing her. Her clit
throbbed with need, and she knew if he stroked her there too, she’d come harder
than she ever had before. It was her one secret desire, something she’d only
tried a few times until now. The others had left her feeling cold afterward,
and used, but she knew it would be different with Micah. The fire inside of her
burned bright as he teased her.
