His
own pleasure surged mine and I tightened my arms about him as I came hard,
screaming into the darkness, into the emptiness of the abandoned woods. I
squealed again and again as he drove harder and harder. My world was shaking.
My legs were trembling. My heart was thundering in my chest. It was the best
sex I’d ever had. Magical. Our skin glistened in the firelight, our limbs
slapping and sliding against each other, everything hot and wet and unbearably
sweet.

Nocturne
shifted his grip over me, his fingers pressing hard into my shoulders, hard
enough to bruise as his entire body shuddered, and he shouted with a voice to
halt the gods, and moaned sweet nothings in my ear, and blew through his own
orgasm at the same time as mine, my pussy milking his godhood, clenching and
pulsating and trying to wring him dry, the mortal girl and her immortal lover.

Finally
he collapsed on me. My rib cage protested at his sudden weight, and he seemed
to realise this and quickly raised himself onto his elbows, and stroked my damp
hair back from my face. I still felt him hard inside me, and as if to remind me
of how sweet it had been, he withdrew, his godhood leaving tingles of pleasure
all inside my cunt as he pulled out. He kissed my forehead, my eyelids, and
lingered on my lips. I wrapped my arms around his neck, not wanting to let go,
and he chuckled, deep in his chest.

“I’m
not going anywhere, little sparrow,” he said, disengaging my hands and
smoothing over my skin with his fingers. “I’m not halfway done with you yet. I
need to taste your sweet pussy again, feel you tightening around me as you
come.”

I
peered up at him, suddenly shy.

He
chuckled. “Don’t worry, my little sparrow. We have all night for this. I’m in
no hurry, and I intend to take my every last drop of pleasure you can provide.”
He nuzzled into my hair. “Hopefully you’ll feel the same way.”

“Yes,”
I gasped as I felt his firm grip on my bare backside, squeezing, groping. I
felt stirring deep in my loins and knew it wouldn’t be long before I felt his
godhood again.

He
reached for the forgotten cloak of shadows and tucked it about us as I snuggled
into his damp warmth before the fire, taking stock of my sore and sated body.
My loins and back ached, my knees were weak and my head still throbbed from
where I’d thwacked it against the floor, but by the gods, that was worth it.

I
couldn’t wait to do it again.

Sometimes she fails.

I
raised the hammer and tapped the nail into the fence with the best precision I
could. No bent nails for my parents’ house. I always took pride in my work.

“Good
day!”

I
raised the hammer and nodded in greeting as yet another nosey neighbour made a
poor excuse to pass by the house. I could deal with the rumours. I could deal
with the stares and the whispers and the looks. What I couldn’t deal with was the
constant scrutiny of visitor after visitor approaching the house, knocking on
the door at all hours, asking every question they could think of. Bad enough I
had to turn away friends and family, but when the local convents found out I’d
been visited by Nocturne, the god of night, they’d all come ramming on the
door, too, demanding I give up my regular life and go live with them in
dedication to the one being I’d rather forget about.

Not
that our time together wasn’t pleasant, I thought as I hammered another nail.
It certainly was. But there was no point in brooding. The gods saw us mortals
as nothing more than insects. The thought of Nocturne seeing me again was
ludicrous, like I’d go into the courtyard and pick a favourite ant from among
the several colonies living there.

I
tried not to laugh as a gust of wind nearly blew old lady McDonnagan’s
broad-rimmed hat right off her head, exposing the fact that she’d been staring
at me as she dashed by.

Well,
it was all my own fault. I had told my parents, after all. I thought they’d be
proud of me. I’d done exactly one thing in my life for them to be proud of, and
it was to be seduced by a god.

But
then they’d gone blathering to their closest friends, who absolutely
promised
not to tell a soul – and of course the whole village knew by lunchtime.

I
suppose I could have lied, and told them the seven foot tall half-dressed
wolf-man who knocked on their door in the early hours of the morning with me
passed out in his arms was just a regular barbarian, but that idea seemed even
more ludicrous than a god.

I
paused in my work, letting my thoughts linger over the body he’d changed into
when he made love to me: a handsome, aristocratic face atop the body of an
immensely strong warrior. I shivered, remembering the sheer power I’d felt in
those arms. My pussy twitched in anticipation.

I
sighed and threw the hammer down, the fence fixed. I may as well send myself
off to a convent. It’s not like I’ll ever find a mortal lover as amazing as
Nocturne. I’d be happy to find any lover with this reputation traipsing around
after me. Not many men have the balls to be compared to a god.

“Kayla!”
My mother’s voice rang out from inside the house. I sighed again, picked up the
hammer and tromped inside, not even caring that I kicked dirt all over her
floor.

“What?”

Mother
bustled into the kitchen, clucking her tongue at my untidiness. “I have a
letter here, darling, Do you know who it’s from?”

I
rolled my eyes. “Mother, I’m not a child. Don’t play games with me.”

Her
shoulder sank as she deflated at my disinterest. “It’s from Aunt Mallory over
in Cayden.”

I
stopped myself from rolling my eyes once again. “And what does she want?”

“Well,”
Mother said, propping herself on a dining chair, probably just to create
suspense. “I wrote to her about your little… uh… indiscretion. She’s got some
room for you on her farm, darling, and she’s willing to take you in until all
of this blows over.”

“But
Cayden’s on the other side of the country,” I said. “And besides, I thought you
were proud of. It’s not an indiscretion, it’s a great honour to be chosen by a
god.”

“Well,”
she said, delicately sniffing, “you’ve given away your virginity now, so you’ll
not be worth so much in a marriage.”

I
slammed the hammer down on the table, causing it to leave an impressive dent.
“You watch your tongue,” I snarled. “I don’t care if you are my mother. I lost
my virginity long before Nocturne came along and any man would be proud to
marry me knowing I have been so blessed.”

I
turned on my heel and stormed out the door before she could catch her breath
and scold me.

Ugh,
I hated living with my parents, but my own tiny house was both besieged and
ill-equipped to handle such nosiness. I’d originally picked my house because it
was small and out of the way and easy to climb in and out the windows so I
could perform my nightly tasks of stealing from the rich to sell on the black
market. But now my house was inaccessible and I was trapped with my parents. It
was almost as if Nocturne knew I wouldn’t be able to return so he fostered me off
on my folks. I didn’t want their charity. I didn’t want their rules. And I
certainly didn’t want to go to Cayden to wait until all of this ‘blew over’.

I just wanted Nocturne.
