“If I could do that you would’ve spent every minute since I met you naked.” He sounded as tortured as she felt. She liked knowing the effect their contact had on him. As if he read her mind, which to the best of her knowledge was a talent he didn’t possess, he said, “Of all the things that are illegal in this realm, what you do to me should top that list. You drive me crazy, Elena. You make me want things I know I can’t have, make me want to do things I know I shouldn’t. Hell, you make me forget things I know I should be doing just so I can get my hands on you again.”

Elena felt everything inside her tie into one great big bow of love. Damn it, when he said things like that she almost believed there was a chance for them. She wanted to believe the sex they shared held more meaning than a fuck to boost his power. She wanted to believe it could be more than a fling inspired by the danger and necessity of chasing after a rogue vampire. She wanted to believe there was more. So much more.

“I’m happy to get rid of these clothes the old-fashioned way if you’ll let go of my hands.”

He shook his head, surprising her yet again. “We’re talking first. You’ve held out on me long enough.”

Elena wrinkled her forehead as she stared up at him in true confusion.

“You burned me at LUST HQ, you kept me warm in subzero temperature outside. How? What else can you do that I don’t know about?”

“You want to have a power talk while you lie here on top of me like this?” Baffled, Elena gaped at him. “I knew you were a power junky.” When he simply lifted a brow and waited, she sighed. “My vision is off the charts. I don’t just mean my night vision, but mind vision as well.”

“The images you get, the energies you pick up from a space.”

Elena nodded. “Sometimes I can call on the visions. Sometimes I can shield against them. Most of the time they fly at me completely unbidden and out of the blue.” She hesitated, knowing she’d have to reveal the most precious vision she’d experienced in her life to make him fully understand. “A lot like your, um, activity the night you stayed in my apartment.”

She could almost see the wheels turn in his mind as he thought back to what he did that night. Then his lips twitched.

“You got a vision of me jerking off?”

She nodded. “When I opened the door the next morning.”

He laughed and shook his head. “Should I be embarrassed?”

“I can’t think of a reason why. When I get a vision that way I get the energy that goes along with it. The heat you felt in Michael’s office came from that vision. I absorbed it, stored it.”

“And used it against me later,” he finished for her.

“You shouldn’t have made me angry.”

“Apparently I made you hot, too.” He rocked his hips against her, pushing his erection more firmly between her spread thighs. “How long can you store the power you absorb?”

Elena’s attention had settled between her legs, where claws of lust sank into the inner walls of her channel on their way to meet the impervious length of cock it yearned to feel. She pulled her focus back, but it didn’t stop the ache, the desire.

“Until it’s spent.” She tried to lift her hands but found them securely pinned in his larger one. She wanted to touch him. She wanted to grip his thrusting hips. She wanted to rip off his pants so she could gain access to his impressive cock. “The heat I used when we arrived here was what remained from that night.”

“Is it always heat?” His free hand rested on her shoulder. He splayed his fingers wide and framed her body with his palm in a gradual slide that sent her teetering on the edge of madness.

What had he asked? Oh, yeah. “Not always. It can be sadness, happiness, fear, even anger. Emotions are often the strongest energy a being can eject. That’s what I can absorb, what I can expel at will.”

His perusal of her body continued. His hand reached her waist and he drew it up again, the same gradual slide that had her writhing, a breath away from begging. When his hand closed over her breast, she lost that breath.

“Tavius, please.”

He ignored her, grazing the pad of his thumb over her already-taut nipple, flicking it until her nipple throbbed with delight. “Can you store more than one emotion at a time?”

“Sometimes.” Elena gasped the answer as he gave her nipple a particularly hard thump with his thumb. The sensation bordered pain and skated along pleasure.

“Are you now?”He flattened his hand again, covering her breast fully with his palm and caressing it in tender squeezes that eased the pain and stroked the pleasure.

Gods, she couldn’t think! How could he keep asking her questions, expecting her to answer when he did this to her? “The museum in Rio,” she began but had to stop and lick her suddenly dry lips before she could continue. “I picked up the anger there, the pain, too.”

“Ah, muirnin.” His hand stilled on her breast as his eyes filled with concern.

“I expelled the pain quickly. That’s, um.” Her cheeks heated. “That’s what all the crying was for. It was the best way to get it out.”

Understanding settled the worry in his gaze. “And the anger?”

“I’m holding onto that. I figured we needed all the power we can get when we face Le Mort and my father.”

Tavius smiled. “Smart girl. Damn, I love that about you. Any other powers I should know about?”

Heart in her throat, the only power Elena knew in that moment came from the four letter word her mind took way out of context. He didn’t mean it. Not the way she wanted him to.

She pretended to think about it while she forced back the disappointment that sliced deep. It was her fault for falling in love with a man she knew she couldn’t keep. Now might be all she had. In less than an hour, other members of the agency would be here. In less than an hour they could be hot on Le Mort’s trail, on The Whisperer’s trail, and shortly after that she didn’t doubt Tavius would leave.

“One,” she finally answered, deciding if now was all she had she damned well better enjoy it, “but it’s better if I show you.”

“Will it hurt?”

It’s going to hurt me a lot more than it will you
. “That depends on your definition of pain.”

Tavius took an obvious deep breath. He let it out slowly. His gaze twinkled with an amusement that told her he was playing up the moment, acting as if he were scared. If only she could make him scared. She wanted him to be terrified to his toes at the thought of leaving her.

“Okay, I’m ready.”

Elena lifted her head. She grinned at the expectancy she saw in his eyes. His breath fanned her lips, sending tingling fingers of ecstasy zinging through her.

“You have to stay right here.” Her lips grazed his as she spoke, turning the anticipation into a heady, dizzying need. “No matter what you feel you can’t move.”

“I couldn’t move right now if someone put an eraser magnum to my head.” The only thing that moved were his eyes, dancing with hers in wonder and promise, with a trace of trepidation.

Elena kissed him. He continued to hold her wrists over her head, not giving an ounce of maneuverability. She didn’t need her hands to drive him wild. She only needed her mouth.

Eyes wide open, she traced the shape of his lips with the tip of her tongue and delighted in the shiver she felt move through him. He didn’t pull away but stared at her so intently she felt as though he was seeing her soul through her eyes. She tugged at his bottom lip with her teeth, soothing the bite with a lick and repeating the action with his top lip. This time he exhaled, the breath shuddering from his lungs.

“Elena.” He said her name on one of those shudders that barely qualified as audible.

“No talking either. It might break my concentration.” She grazed her teeth along his mouth, nipping next at the corner of his lips.

“If you concentrate any harder, muirnin, you’ll drive me insane.”

“Imagine what I could do if you would let go of my hands.” She dipped her tongue between his slightly parted lips, a quick strike that rewarded her with a taste of passion and barely restrained hunger.

“Mmm, Gods, I have. That’s why I’m still holding on.”

Elena suspected his hold on her wrists was far stronger than the one on his control. She wanted to make him lose that steadfast control, wanted him to turn her little game around and call her bluff. She knew exactly what to do.

She drove her tongue inside his mouth once more, this time lingering to slide and twirl with his tongue, distracting him with a delicious dance as she gathered and absorbed the energies surrounding them. The sheer intensity of the power that all but fused them together each time they got this close soaked into her skin to swirl in her system. She let it simmer there, drawing on the emotions she sensed in the tiny cabin and pulling them inside her to form a conglomeration of sensations that would send them both flying through ecstasy and beyond.

She couldn’t read exactly where the strong emotions in the cabin came from. Visions didn’t accompany the heavy dollops of lust, hopelessness, and heartfelt love. She wrapped her inner being around the passion, pushing aside the hopelessness because she had enough of that already, and closed her eyes.

It took little more than a thought and a nudge before she was sharing all she’d absorbed with Tavius. She tasted the bittersweet power, loved the way it complemented his flavor and hers. She tasted his surprise, too, a burst of tangy shock that only heightened the experience tenfold. Sensations closed around them, a hand designed of passion to squeeze and stroke until every nerve ending stood on sizzling alert. It was the most mind-blowing, heart-altering kiss she’d ever given a man, and with it she offered him her very all.

Tavius held out far longer than she expected before he wrenched his mouth from hers. “Geezus, Elena.” He slammed his eyes closed, and for a moment she feared she might have gone too far. When he opened them again, more emotions than she knew a being could feel swam in the depths of his fiery electric blues. “That mouth of yours should be illegal.”

She grinned. “Some people in our realm would say it already is.”

“Power.” He nodded. “If only they understood what your abilities can do. Not that I would want you sharing that particular talent with anyone.” A smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he dropped his head to brush them to hers. “That one belongs to me and me alone.”

Elena’s heart skipped, tripped, and fell.
If only that were true
. If only it could be.

“Guess what.” He lifted his head a fraction to gaze down at her.

Elena lifted a brow in answer.

“I’ve finally got you horizontal.”

“Mmm, so it seems. If I remember correctly, there are several things I told you I wanted to do to you when this moment came.” Her mouth watered at the memory of her desires. She wanted to roll him over, to sprawl her body on top of his and kiss her way down. She wanted to take his meaty cock in her hand, close her tingling lips around the engorged head, and revel in the sounds as she sucked his length in as far as she could manage.

Tavius tsked. “But you had your chance. It’s my turn now.” His grip on her wrists tightened, ensuring she couldn’t move an inch as his free hand returned to its previous tantalizing exploration.

He caressed her slowly as he’d told her he would. His roughened palm glided first over every inch he could touch through her clothing and then pushed beneath her clothes to retrace each glide skin-to-skin. Her shirt crawled up with each slither of his hand until it settled beneath her chin. She wanted it off, wanted all her clothes off, and his. She wanted to feel his naked flesh against her, wanted to taste it, to explore it.

He didn’t allow her anything of the sort. Rather than remove her shirt, he pushed it higher until it covered her eyes in a makeshift blindfold. She gasped when the sensation of having her sight impaired only heightened her awareness when he tugged her bra out of the way and started feasting on her breasts.

He loved her slowly, teasing even as he pleased in gentle bites and soothing licks, pressured sucks and light caresses. Elena couldn’t separate madness from pleasure. She knew it would be pointless to try. Her body felt like a smorgasbord of ultra-sensitive pulsating points, and he seemed to know exactly where each trigger was located. She writhed, moaned, thrashed, and whimpered as he kept her blindfolded and bound while he drove her to the edges of utter insanity with his mouth and hand. She tried once to gather the energies starting to accumulate again in the room around them but found she couldn’t even do that. He’d shattered her ability to concentrate that much.

“Tavius, Gods, please. I can’t take anymore.” A tortured sob left her along with pleas she didn’t feel a bit ashamed to make. She needed with a level of intensity that raged an inferno inside her. She wanted with a mind-numbing altitude that sent her flying high enough to orbit the moon.

“Tell me what you need, Elena.” His breath fanned her belly as his tongue dipped into the crease of her bellybutton, tickling even as it miraculously aroused her more. “Tell me what you want, muirnin.”

“You!” The word burst from her as his hand found her drenched pussy lips. He’d already shifted his body enough so that she could close her legs, allowing him the ability to work her pants down. The man could do some wondrous things one-handed. She’d completed the task of their removal by kicking off both shoes and pants before he settled his body firmly between her once-again-spread thighs.
