But when they were just inches from the water, Rhys stopped and gently put Llawan down on the wet sand. “Here you go, Llawan. Don’t disappoint me.”

The first wave that hit Llawan’s tail felt so familiar he couldn’t force himself to answer, breathless with relief. So instead, driven by some unnamed force, he leaned forward and pressed his lips to Rhys’s grotesque mouth. It was smooth, even though he could feel the outline of his front teeth behind the flesh, and combined with the hope growing in his chest, made him feel more empowered than ever.

The man blinked a few times, but smiled without a word and Llawan jumped forward, rolling into the water until it was deep enough for him to swim. He didn’t look back and dove right in, drunk on the salty taste on his tongue as he took a deep gulp and let it flow through his gills. The moon cast a gentle glow on the white sand, showing him the way as he sped straight towards the sharp edge separating the world of the land people from the darkness of the deep ocean. Colorful sea urchins dotted the ground below him, smelling more delicious than ever, but safety was far more important than hunger and Llawan dove straight down, letting the current carry him along the steep wall that made up a natural border between worlds.

Even the thought that to get his freedom back, he had to tie his destiny to Rhys, couldn’t spoil his happiness now. He just went with the flow.

K.A. Merikan is a joint project of Kat and Agnes Merikan who jokingly claim to share one mind. They finish each other's sentences and simultaneously come up with the same ideas.
In 2006 a mutual friend invited them over to a party and after a whole night of chatting and watching movies, the idea of writing a novel together came up. It marked the beginning of both a professional collaboration and lasting friendship of Kat and Agnes.

is a freelance illustrator and fashion enthusiast whose favourite things include chili chips, stiletto shoes and cats.

Agnes Merikan
aspires to become a sexologist. She loves chocolate, dogs and all things kitch.

It is easiest to find them in galleries, good restaurants and historical sites, always with a computer or notebook, because for Kat and Agnes, every day is writing day. Future plans include lots of travel and a villa on the coast of Italy or a flat in Paris where they could retire after yet another crazy venture, only to write more hot m/m romance.
