Chapter 1

Everybody calls me Angel. But there’s a funny thing about that. Mostly everybody has the same image of what an angel is in their heads. Feathery wings. The golden halo. If they’re not floating on a cloud, they’re descending from the heavens with a beam of light shining down upon them. Their milky white skin glistens underneath the rays from up above. Just looking at them instills some sense of peace and serenity. It’s otherworldly.

But that’s all just a myth, or at least, I like to think that it is. I’m not that kind of being. I’m not even that kind of woman. I don’t think I’m better or worse than the next person but the “angel” that everybody else is desperate to see, desperate to get a glimpse of, desperate to fall in love with… she doesn’t exist. This isn’t a fantasy. This is reality.

And I’m reminded of that every time I head out for work. I don’t punch in at a time clock and I don’t have to worry about showing up late. No, my workplace is the along the streets of this city. It doesn’t take you very long to realize that these aren’t the heavens that real angels come from.

If I hadn’t been here so long, I might have been uncomfortable but I’m used to it now. I’ve been doing this so long that I don’t remember when I first started. I was young. But it’s been years since then.

My world is full of the dilapidated buildings that stretched into the sky, a symbol of failed businesses and dreams unfulfilled. Junkies nervously paced back and forth into alleys and looked for a way to score that next hit because that’s all that mattered. A group of thugs laughed among themselves and waited to harass anybody who passed their way, even if they weren’t asking for it. The street lights flickered and the neon signs of the 24-hour shops reminded everyone that there’s always someone awake, regardless of what ungodly hour it may be.

Close your eyes and the sounds of the streets are an ambient noise you quickly adjust to. Arguments between people about the most petty things. Accusations of infidelity, theft and general dishonesty constantly fill the air. Sometimes it goes too far and the police sirens quickly follow. Horns honk. Engines rev. Brakes screech. Obscenities are yelled. Everybody is only looking out for themselves out here.

That’s my life. This is what I hear and see before I go to bed every night in my apartment and the first thing I see when I open my eyes.

I wasn’t born in the city but it didn’t take long for it to open up its arms and adopt me. I’m nobody’s daughter and these streets are the closest thing I’ll ever have to a guardian.

A woman always has something that every man wants. If she doesn’t have it, it means she’s no longer a woman. That's all I have. And that’s what I use to make it out here. I know that I’m fortunate. But not because of what I have. It's because of what they tell me I have. When I look at myself in the mirror, I see a woman who’s constantly told that she was blessed to look the way she does. I stare at my brown eyes and my plain brown hair and wonder what it is exactly that they see in me. I stayed away from anything that might harm my skin, leaving me with a fair complexion and my makeup is lightly applied so that my clients always got the real me. But I would never be able to see through their eyes. I would never be able to see the “angel” they always told me they saw.

Tonight, I looked at my dresser and decided which Angel they’re going to get tonight. With my hair tied-down, I snapped the short blonde wig onto my head and Angel became a golden-haired pixie. A pair of black thong panties and a strapless bra do the bare minimum to keep everything in its place. I put on a sheer red dress that ended at about the middle of my thigh. Then I leaned forward and adjusted my cleavage in the mirror to make sure that my small breasts looked a full cup-size bigger. Men were always a terrible judge of breast size. I didn’t mind though. Give them a little sample and they’ll want to buy the whole thing. A little perfume and some bright red lipstick to contrast my fair skin and the package is complete. Now to see who was buying tonight.

I walked the city sidewalks and balanced on the thin line of drawing attention to myself but only from the right people. My outfit left little to the imagination but the cops in this city have been lenient so far. I’ve had my run-ins but they’ll only harass you when they see something happening first-hand. I was always discrete, which everybody always appreciated.

I kept a brisk pace to try and keep my body warm since a jacket would cover-up more than I wanted. It helped that there weren’t many opportunities in the area. At the other corner, I saw a couple of other working girls looking for a target. I kept walking down the street to see if I could have someone all to myself. I eventually ended up inside of the small rundown casino at the end of the block.

This wasn’t Las Vegas. The glitz and glamour of Sin City were replaced by the dull lights of people just trying to make a quick buck. The denizens of the city spilled inside here, tugging on slot machines, rolling dice and flipping cards in an attempt to do something with the money they were throwing away. It was always a good place to spot someone who might be looking for some company. And sometimes, they would come looking for me. After all, if you saw an angel, wouldn’t you go up to her and say something?

I took a seat at the bar and the bartender placed my drink in front of me while I lit up a cigarette. I seductively placed the stick up against my cherry red lips and sucked on it just like I would something else because someone was watching. Someone was always watching. I tapped the cigarette ashes into the ashtray and like clockwork, a man took a seat next to me, invading my little cloud in the heavens.

“Give me some scotch, my friend,” he said to the bartender, his words slurring just a bit like it wasn’t his first trip to the bar.

I could feel his eyes upon me. I turned my head to him slightly, my head tilted up and took another puff of my cigarette before winking at him coyly. From the corner of his mouth I could see his lips curling into a smile.

“Well… What’s your name, beautiful?”

“Angel,” I said to him as I puckered my lips around my cigarette.

“Angel… How appropriate. Nice to meet you, Angel. My name’s Brent.”

I offered my hand to Brent and he shook it. Brent wasn’t much to look at. His blonde hair was messy over his head like he had either been having too much fun in this casino or he had a really long day at work. His tie was loose around his neck and his suit jacket was wrinkled probably from having been taken off so many times before. I could see a bit of his gut sticking out from underneath his shirt. He was perfect.

“It’s nice to meet you, Brent,” I said to him. “Are you from around here?”

“No. No, I’m not. I’m in town for a business conference. My company flew me out here and now that my work is done, I ended up in this casino.”

“What is it you do, Brent?”

Brent went into elaborate detail about what he did and who he worked for. It had something to do with computer sales and how he was responsible for adjusting to market demands. I didn’t pay too close attention. I was just letting him talk. When I did that, it tricked them into thinking that maybe I was interested in them for something besides what was in their wallet.

“That’s really interesting, Brent. Really interesting.”

I continued to smoke the rest of my cigarette, making sure to accentuate my lips each time. I did the same with my drink. There was a moment of silence between us when I licked the rest of the alcohol off of my lips. When my tongue curled up against the opening of my mouth, it set off a chain reaction. His throat bobbed as he swallowed a gulp. His blues had stopped blinking. And most importantly, I could hear his cock beginning to thicken inside of his pants. He was interested. But now came the tricky part.

“So, Brent, how much longer are you going to be in town for?”

“My flight leaves tomorrow morning.”

“Your last night in the city. I’m going to miss you, Brent.”

“Oh, now now, Angel,” he started to chuckle. “You don’t have to go and lie now.”

“No, I really mean it, Brent.”

I didn’t.

“There aren’t many men like you in the city. It’ll be a shame when you’re gone.”

“Well, thank you, Angel. You’re a pretty special woman yourself. I mean, you should see yourself right now. All dolled-up and sitting there in your little red dress. Really special…”

I winked at him and narrowed my eyes to remind him that I was just as interested as he was. Then I turned in my chair to give him some better attention.

It always starts with the knee. In this case, I pressed mine up against his. Our legs touching each other signaled a prelude of what could come next. But only if he was willing to pay the price.

“What do you have planned for the rest of the night?” I asked him.

“I don’t know,” he sighed. “These machines are crooked. I wish I didn’t waste my time sitting in front of one of them while I fed it money.”

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, Brent. It sounds like this casino hasn’t been treating you too kindly.”

“No, it hasn’t.”

“Well, why don’t we see if we can change that?”

“What did you have in mind?”

I bit the corner of my bottom lip as I stared into his eyes. I didn’t know if it worked or not but I would always try to do more than the obvious. When men locked their eyes on me, I tried to focus and will them into seeing things my way.

“Maybe we can spend some time together,” I said to him.

“That sounds nice, Angel.”

“We can have some fun.”

“Fun sounds nice.”

“What do you think?”

“Yeah…”

He nodded his head, his eyes lost in a mesmerized trance. I pushed my knee forward, past his own knee and up against the inside of his thigh. The feeling of his cock continuing to engorge itself pulsed against the fabric of his pants and vibrated my leg. I knew that he was close.

“You want my company, don’t you, Brent?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“It’s one hundred for one hour…”

“One hundred?”

I could hear the surprise and reluctance as his voice suddenly shifted. Men would always pull back when I gave them a quote. And that’s when I really turned it on.

I lowered my hand down onto his thigh. Dancing my fingers up his leg, I searched for the tip of his thickening cock as it was restrained by his pants.

“Yeah, Brent. You’ve already wasted some money tonight. I can promise you that this definitely won’t be a waste.”

“I don’t know…”

“We’ll have some fun. A lot of fun.”

He didn’t say anything. He just stared at me and sighed a deep breath. I knew that he was torn between the desire building up inside of him and trying not to blow all of his money on some girl he just met less than fifteen minutes ago.

“I promise, Brent. We’re going to have a lot of fun.”

I licked my lips again and narrowed my eyes as I stared at him. He gulped and started to look around. He was literally trying to free himself from my grasp but I wouldn’t let him go. Drastic measures needed to be taken if I didn’t want to lose him. I raced my hand up his thigh and found it quickly.

“Ooh!” I squeaked softly. “You’re a big boy, Brent. I like big boys.”

“Is that right?”

“Mmm-hmm.”
