“Amber you don’t have to run or be alone any more, you don't have to do this alone. I have friends; you can too. Please, stay with me, I can protect you,” Blake pleaded with her.

“Blake, please don’t.” Sadly shaking her head to emphasize her wish, “I didn’t let you come before because, well, I just couldn’t and I can’t now. This is my life and how I have to live it.”

“Damn it Amber! Wasn’t it you who told your mother that being on the run all the time is no way to live a life? You know that’s true!” Blake exclaimed. What he didn't tell her was that he had lived most of his life on the move. Not on the run like she did, but always on the move, looking for her. “You need to be with others of your kind!” He let his frustration show and immediately regretted it when she jumped from the bed, putting distance between them.

Not believing he had brought her mother into the conversation she exploded. “Blake, my mother has nothing to do with this. I told you then I don’t want to be part of a pack. And nothing has changed!” She kept her back to him, hiding the effect he was having on her emotions. She wanted to belong, but not at the cost of his life.

Blake could hear the pounding of her heart; the sadness in her voice when she spoke. He knew he was upsetting her, but damn it, he refused to lose her again. He leaned forward, twisted, and quickly put his feet to the floor to stand. His intention was to go to her and wrap his arms around her, to make her feel secure. Instead, everything went black

CHAPTER TEN

A
t the sound of the loud thud, Amber jerked around, gasping when she saw that Blake had fallen. Rushing to his side, she knelt and brushed the stray strands of hair from his face. Her fingers slid across the cut that was almost healed at his hairline. He appeared to be out cold. There was no way she could lift him from the floor, so she sat down beside him. “Oh, Blake, what am I going to do with you?”

“Hopefully stay with me,” he murmured, opening his eyes to look up into her face.

She started to shove him from her lap, until he winced in pain. “Are you messing with me? Or did you really fall?” she asked him with a stern look on her face.

“Honestly? I got dizzy and fell. But if it makes you feel any better, I like you fussing over me.”

“You’re terrible; you know that, don’t you?” Amber couldn’t help but smile. The old feelings for him were returning fast. At the thought of leaving him again, a lump formed in her throat.

To make them both comfortable, Amber sat on the floor, scooting her back against the bed. Moving Blake’s head to rest on her lap, her fingers absently stroked his soft hair.

Blake closed his eyes and almost moaned at the feel of her hands caressing him. He had to start talking or he was going to grab her and kiss her right then and there.

“How long have you been living here?” Blake questioned her, watching her lips.

“Almost a month now,” she responded softly.

“Right under my nose and I never knew you were here,” He found himself relaxing under the gentle touch. The aches and pains in his body were ebbing under her touch.

Blake’s body still felt weak and sore from the accident, but nothing would keep him from her side. After his visit with Seriana, his pack’s werewolf healer, the damage to his body had begun mending. The cut on his face was almost healed, and the bruises were almost gone. The bump on the head would take a couple days to mend, but the arm would take a bit more than Seriana was capable of. In a week, when the moon was full, he would change and his arm would be fully functional again. For now, he had to deal with the uncomfortable cast that prohibited any type of movement.

“I didn’t know you lived around here,” Amber couldn’t stop herself from staring down into his handsome face. She was relaxed, sitting on the floor with his head on her lap, but she knew that he must be sore.

“Let’s move up to the bed and get you more comfortable,” she proposed, almost rewarding him with a punch in his good arm for the leering look he gave at her suggestion.

Blake laughed and with her assistance sat up, then stood. He reached out with his free hand and helped her stand, as well. Before she gained her balance, he pulled her into his tight embrace.

He was definitely taller and had a lot more muscles than she remembered, but he smelled the same. The masculine scent of him filled her senses while she stood in his arms. It felt right to wrap her arms around him and lean her head against his broad chest. The sound of his heartbeat was strong, quickening when she melted into his strong arms.

They moved in unison towards the bed where she hopped on first, scooting over as he slid his long frame in beside her. Amber felt safe with Blake by her side.

Even back at that awful school, she had always felt safe with him. They would sit for hours just talking. It seemed natural that he would slip his arm around her shoulders. As he had back then, Amber allowed her head to rest on his chest, while Blake wrapped her in his warm embrace.

Snuggling into his warmth, the loneliness of the years seemed to melt away while she lay there with him.

Blake allowed his injured left arm to rest across his stomach as he held onto her with his right. Smiling when he felt her pulse quicken at his touch, he heard the slight intake of breath as he ran his fingers lightly under her breast to rest on her side.

He wanted to cup her breasts, feel their weight in his hand. Wanted to run his hands up and down her body, commit her form to memory. But he needed to close his eyes for a moment; his head was swimming. She soothed him as he lay there with her body pressed against him.

Amber lifted her leg and laid it across his, nestling further into Blake’s hard body. She breathed his scent deeply into her lungs. Heat radiated from his skin through the t-shirt. Amber imagined running her hands under the thin material, across the muscles she felt there. The stirrings began deep in her stomach, radiating between her legs. Her wolf was pushing to be released, to roam free; it called for her to mate. Amber felt her skin ripple and the pressure begin in her jaw. She pushed hard for her wolf to remain calm. The short amount of time she had with Blake, she wanted to spend with him in human form.

Blake was the only person that she had ever considered having sex with, and that had been years ago. Since then, she had never experienced that kind of attraction. Now that he was here, those feelings had returned, she felt the need all the way to her bones. She wondered if he felt the same way. When they had been at the school, he had told her that she was beautiful and that he really liked her, but had never pushed her beyond her comfort zone of friendship. Not until the last day. She wondered if he remembered the kiss.

Suddenly, she heard a soft snore and looked up to see that he had fallen asleep. Amber wanted to kick herself for letting her thoughts run away with her. She felt the stirrings of her wolf urging her to mate with the man, the wolf, in her bed.

Mentally, she hissed silently.
Calm down! Leave me in peace for tonight!
With one last mental shove, she felt the feelings subside, but not fully retreat. Her body still felt restless, as if the wolf was pacing inside of her. It seemed to take forever, but she finally calmed down enough for Amber to relax as she listened to Blake’s even breathing and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. She allowed her breathing to match his, her heart rhythm to beat with his, and she drifted to sleep with his arm still around her.

In her dreams, her solid black wolf ran through the meadow, bounding through the tall grasses and wildflowers. Looking over to the side, Amber saw the large black and gray wolf joining her race towards the trees. When he came alongside her he shortened his stride to match hers. They rubbed their sides together without faltering, and continued.

They ran playfully together, veering left, then right as they ran. Amber knew that the wolf who had joined her dreams was Blake’s. She had seen the large black and gray in her dreams before, but never knew who he was. He never got close enough for her dream wolf to smell him. Now that she remembered his scent, Amber allowed Blake to run with her in her dream world.

She slowed her pace to a lope, then eventually to a walk. Blake’s wolf took her cue and slowed to a walk beside her. They were both breathing heavily, their tongues lolled out the side of their mouths as they panted. Amber’s wolf stopped and rolled over onto the ground, stretching, kicking her legs. Blake’s wolf walked around her, looking down at her. He made several circles watching her while keeping constant awareness of their surroundings to ensure there was no danger.

Amber’s wolf felt safe with Blake’s and wiggled her back in the tall grass. She yipped playfully and Blake responded by pouncing on top of her. Frolicking like young pups, without a care in the world. The two wolfs twisted and rolled, nipping and biting each other gently as they tumbled on the ground.

The black wolf jumped to her feet with the black and gray following quickly behind. Amber sprinted to the taller grass, swerving from side to side while she ran. Looking back at him over her shoulder, she saw the black and gray’s teeth were showing in a smile. Blake cut her off as she played hide and seek through the grass. When he got close enough he grabbed her by the scruff of the neck. Her wolf tensed for a moment, but submitted to the powerful male by crouching submissively to the ground. Blake’s snout nuzzled her neck, licking while he lay down beside her.

Amber awoke from the dream with a smile on her face. She had never had such a dream and her wolf was elated. Slowly opening her eyes, she became aware that Blake was leaning on his good arm and was nuzzling her neck. Alternating kisses with small bite
s, he flicked his tongue across the sensitive area behind her ear, then moving to her ear, drawing the lobe into his warm wet mouth.

Her body trembled involuntarily with the sensations, her nipples hardening instantly while the juncture between her thighs tingled, rapidly becoming moist. Her wolf was close to the surface and she urged Amber on. It didn’t take much encouragement. Moaning, she wrapped her arms around Blake’s neck, turned her head nuzzling his neck in return and was rewarded with his answering moan.

Miraculously, the buttons on her shirt slowly came undone while he continued nibbling on her neck. His hands explored the red lacy bra covering her firm breasts. He pushed the long necklace she wore out of the way as his fingers brushed the swell at the top of the bra.

She pulled back realizing that he was using his injured arm to caress her. “You’re going to hurt yourself.’

Preoccupied with kissing his way down the front of her chest, he mumbled. “Wolf, remember? We heal faster than humans.” His tongue lashed out and flicked the hard nipple that strained against the thin material causing her body to spasm in response. “It’s a little sore, but nothing I can’t handle,” he continued, his fingers lightly pinching her through the bra, causing her to arch her back in pleasure, giving him more access.

Her body was on fire. Amber had never been touched so intimately. Her fingers dug into Blake’s hair clutching him to her breast with a moan. Her skin rippled as her wolf stayed close to the surface, heightening her senses.

Blake pulled back and looked into eyes that were dilated, almost black with desire. He felt the ripple of fur beneath her skin and looked at her in amazement.

She reached up and pulled his mouth down on to hers, not giving him time to think or ask questions. He responded immediately to her aggression, slipping his tongue across her lips until she opened her mouth to receive his velvety wetness. His tongue explored her mouth and her tongue reached out and slid across his in a caressing sweep. He growled and deepened the kiss.

His hand slid down the firm muscles of her stomach to the jeans she still wore. He hesitated, giving her the chance to object. When she didn’t stop him his hand continued over the top her jeans to her zipper and down further until he cupped the warm core of her body. He pressed softly with his fingertips and her hips rose up to meet his hand, as if they had a mind of their own.

Pulling his mouth from hers, he eased himself down the front of her open shirt and kissed the lace of her bra, running his tongue along the lines his fingers had taken. She tried to sit up to grab him, but he pushed her back on the bed.

“Relax, baby, let me explore,” he said roughly as his mouth clamped down on the rosy bud that fought for his attention through the lace.

Amber had never known such pleasure existed. She had seen movies, but had never allowed anyone close enough to want them to touch her. She craved his touch. She wanted him to continue.

Blake pulled the bra down and exposed her full breast to his exploring tongue and mouth. His hand continued to gently stroke the heat between her legs. Alternately, he ran his hand over the wetness that soaked through her jeans, to her stomach and back again. He couldn't get enough of touching her.

The tongue flicking across her hard nipple caused her to writhe beneath him in desire. When he pulled away, she moaned in displeasure pulling him back to her. He pulled the bra down further, exposing her other breast and lavished attention on that one, as he had the first one.

Shifting his weight, he pressed his hardness against her leg. Feeling the bulge in Blake’s pants, Amber wanted to touch him, but every time she reached for him, he pushed her hand back. “Let me love you, baby. Just relax and enjoy.”
