Scott lay down
beside her, resting his hand on her breast, holding it cupped in his palm,
feeling her heart beat wildly under his touch.

It was exciting
to watch Ty fuck her. Ty was in a hurry, obviously very aroused indeed, and he
threw Rhonda’s legs over his shoulders, tilting her ass high in the air for
maximum penetration.

“Ah, God she’s
still quaking,” Ty gasped as he pushed into Rhonda.

Scott grinned.
Sometimes being second was even better than being first. It’s why they always
shared. He kept his hand moving gently on Rhonda’s breast, cupping the full
globe, a perfect handful, rolling his thumb over the nipple, then tweaking and
stretching it, loving the way it grew longer and harder in his fingers. He
leaned over and kissed her again, deeply, thrusting his tongue into her mouth,
tasting the insides of her cheeks, the roof of her mouth, before having to break
loose so they both could breathe.

Ty was red-faced
and sweating, so Scott knew he was desperate to come. Scott decided to help by
pinching Rhonda’s nipple. Whether it was the catalyst or not he wasn’t sure,
but only seconds later Rhonda shook in her second orgasm, and Ty slammed into
her one last time.

Scott slid off
the bed to collect a couple of warm, wet washcloths to clean them all up, then
pulled the deep blue quilt over them all, certain they’d sleep right through
the night.

Chapter Four

Ty was right.
The mall was packed with people for the next three days, and although some were
there just to look and gape at where the trouble had taken place, many others
bought something, even if it as just a belt or pair of gloves.

Sue, the
florist, sold out of all her cheaper arrangements each day, and promised her
assistant a pay rise on the strength of the sales. The jeweler was considered a
hero, and had to reorder stock of heart bracelets and gold chain necklaces
twice that week.

But for all the
storekeepers the best part was that the teenagers would not be coming back, and
life could return to its usual, easy-going, pleasant manner, where every
customer was a friend, not someone to be scrutinized in case they stole
something.

Website sales
were also higher, and for the first time Rhonda found herself needing to wrap
parcels during her lunch break to keep up with demand. “Who knows, maybe I can
hire a helper at least a few hours a couple of days a week soon, if sales stay
this high,” she said to Tilly.

“Maybe you could
share a young person with one of the other stores. If she worked for you from
nine thirty to noon, then somewhere else from twelve thirty to three, or
something like that a couple days a week, it would be a reasonable job for her
and help you both out.”

“Actually, those
hours would likely suit a young mom with school-age children. That could really
work. But first, sales need to stay high or it won’t be financially viable,”
said Rhonda.

“Oh, it’s all
very exciting,” said Tilly.

“Who knew
something good could come from a disaster like those shoplifters.”

“I just hope
they get locked up for a good long time, not slapped on the wrist and set free.
I guess it depends if any of them have rich parents or connections to excellent
lawyers.”

“They were lucky
the jeweler wasn’t badly hurt. That will go against them,” said Rhonda, feeling
hopeful of a good outcome.

Tilly raced off,
but later came back to say Harry, in the sporting goods store, was also
thinking about hiring some extra part-time help, so she’d told him about Rhonda
in case sales did continue to increase. “He likes the idea of sharing someone
with you,” said Tilly over her shoulder, as she hurried on her way again.

Rhonda had
wondered whether she’d feel safe at work after the scare, but she did. As
always, she felt herself surrounded by friends and well-wishers, and she was
busier now with less time to brood and think, although her thoughts sometimes
went off on a tangent as she wrapped parcels.

One thing
constantly on her mind was where her relationship with Scott and Ty was
heading. Scott and Ty were partners. Had been partnered and living together for
years. She was what? A treat? A little icing on their cake? Certainly, they
were endlessly kind and caring to her, never making her feel superfluous, but
she really couldn’t see herself becoming a part of them, the way Tilly had
become a part of the relationship between Noah and Sylvester. Ty and Scott just
seemed so together, so interconnected, she simply couldn’t imagine herself as a
permanent part of their relationship.

And that hurt.
She loved them both deeply and intensely, in a way she’d never dreamed
possible. Two men at once. It seemed totally off-the-wall as a theory, but the
practice was yummy, and she enjoyed every moment with them both. But as for
permanency, it didn’t really seem to be in the cards.

Which hurt.
Because she wanted them both with a deep and abiding passion.

Chin up, woman. Enjoy what you have now and don’t
sweat what hasn’t happened yet,
she ordered
herself.

“Ty, the boss
wants to see you right now.” Carrie’s head appeared over the top of his cubicle
as she spoke, then she was gone in a cloud of French perfume.

He shook his
head. He much preferred the sweet, subtle scents Rhonda wore, to the
all-pervading, and no doubt horrendously expensive ones, chosen by Carrie.

He jumped to his
feet, snagged his suit jacket off the back of his chair and shrugged into it,
then checked his necktie was still properly tied before hurrying along the
corridor. What the hell could the boss want with him? All his projects were
moving along well, nothing was late or looked liked being overdue. Surely
someone hadn’t complained about him? Oh well, he’d find out in a minute.

Ty patted his
pockets flat, checked his zipper was pulled up, then knocked on the boss’ door.

“Come.”

“You asked to
see me, sir?”

“Ty, yes, sit,
sit.”

Ty sat, trying
to look confident, rather than how he felt, nervous.

“The Board has
approved our expansion into a couple of large towns on the other side of the
state. They’ll just be small outrigger offices initially, but the plan is to
grow the business using them. We’re looking at appointing a fly-in/fly-out
project manager to oversee the establishment and development of the new
offices. Someone with in-depth knowledge of the business, but someone young and
energetic with the enthusiasm it takes to build new business.”

Ty nodded and
tried to look intelligent. What the boss was saying was interesting, and
confirmed the gossip that’d been going around the office, but it had nothing to
do with him. Or did it?

“The project
manager position will come with a significant pay rise, an apartment in that
new tower block close by the airport for ease of commuting, and productivity
bonuses as each benchmark is reached.” The boss looked at Ty with a searching,
penetrating glare and suddenly Ty realized this
was
about him. Was he going to be asked to apply for the project
manager job?

“Are you
suggesting I apply for this position, sir?”

“No, I’m saying
you’re my nomination for the job. You’re outstanding at what you do, and have
the energy and vision to make this new venture succeed. How do you feel about
travel?”

All Ty’s breath
left his body. A big promotion and pay rise sounded wonderful. The new
apartment would be good too. Maybe they could ask Rhonda to move in with them.
But the travel? That could be the death of his love life.

“How much
travel, sir? I mean, how long would I be away each time?”

“That would very
much depend on each situation, but we were thinking mostly day trips, one most
weeks, with a few overnight stays involved. You certainly wouldn’t need an
apartment over there. It’d be more the occasional night in a hotel if the
business couldn’t be completed in a day.”

“So I’d fly out
on an early morning shuttle, then back again at night, most times?”

“Exactly. With
an overnight stay when the situation warranted it, but nothing like weekly.
You’d likely get yourself a routine organized where you were there every
Monday, here Tuesday to Friday, or something along those lines.”

Ty guessed
there’d be a fair bit of extra paperwork he’d be completing in his own time,
too. Project managers didn’t get an apartment unless they were making some
sacrifices. But it sounded doable. He could manage that, and Scott could look
after Rhonda the evenings he was unavailable. It could work. It really could.
He kept his face bland and said, “Of course I need to discuss it with my
family, but I’m interested, sir, very interested. It sounds like an exciting
position indeed.”

“Good, good.”
The boss drew a folder of papers into the center of his desk and started
discussing the job in detail. Ty found himself more and more fascinated. It
really was something he could get stuck into and make a go of. He’d have quite
a bit of freedom with timelines, and decision-making, and the opportunity to
really build his career. He felt sure Scott would understand. They knew each
other so well he was certain of Scott’s response. Rhonda, he wasn’t so sure of,
but she was a generous and giving person who ran her own business, so surely
she’d understand and be glad for him too?

By the time he
left the boss’ office, Ty’s feet were hardly touching the ground. He was
thrilled, excited, and awed that he’d been chosen. He had the address of the
apartment building and the choice between two apartments. The company would pay
the lease for an initial twelve months, and after that it would depend on him
meeting his productivity criteria. But even twelve months paid for was amazing.
It’d be a huge saving for him and Scott, and truly was the golden opportunity
to ask Rhonda to join them. It’d be their home as a threesome, not squeezing
her into a home already belonging to the two men. It was perfect. Well,
assuming they all liked one of the apartments it would be. And assuming they
were happy with the idea of him flying back and forth across the state each
week.

He could hardly
wait to get home and tell them both his good news.

****

Ty managed to
refrain from telling Scott before they saw Rhonda. It was hard because he was
almost bursting with his news. But he really wanted to tell them together. He
continued to wait as they walked with Rhonda to the bank and the Post Office,
then to her car. At her car, he finally said, “I’ve got some news from work I
want to tell you both. How about we go the bar for a drink before we go home?”

“Or we could go
to the steak house again, and you could tell us while we wait for our meals?”
suggested Rhonda.

“I like that
idea better,” said Scott.

“All right,
we’ll meet there.”

The bubble of
excitement inside Ty kept bouncing up and down in his chest. He was sure they’d
be happy for him, but he was also a little worried it might change the dynamics
of their relationship and spoil it in some way. And what if they hated the idea
of the apartment, or didn’t want to move? He wanted Rhonda to move in with him
and Scott, and he knew Scott did too. But it wasn’t something they’d ever
discussed with Rhonda. What if she truly loved her own apartment, and hated the
idea of moving? It was a neat, tidy place, and she’d obviously cared for it
really well. Then there was her lease. He knew nothing about that either. Maybe
it was something she couldn’t break without a huge penalty.

His mind
wouldn’t switch off. All the way to the steak house he kept churning the
problems over and over until his stomach was so knotted with tension there was
no way he could ever eat any food. Just because this was a good thing for him,
didn’t mean the others would see it as good for them. Yet the three-way
relationship was terribly important to him. He couldn’t bear to lose either
Scott or Rhonda. They were both a part of him, under his skin, in his blood. He
couldn’t live without having both of them in his life.

By the time they
were all finally seated at a table, Ty blurted everything out in one breath.
“I’ve been offered a really cool promotion to project manager, but it means
some travel. Mostly I’ll be away one day a week, but there’s the possibility of
needing to stay overnight here and there too. It comes with free rent in an
apartment in that new tower block by the airport for twelve months.”

“Oh, wow,
congratulations. That’s wonderful news,” said Rhonda.

“Man, congrats
indeed.” Scott punched Ty’s arm in joy. “Now slow down and tell us the
details.”

Ty took a deep
breath and did so, trying to be fair about the positives and negatives in the
way it would affect them as well as him.

Rhonda broke in
on him. “But, Ty, don’t you want this promotion? You’re making it sound like a
bad thing, when all I can see is a wonderful opportunity. More money is always
good, but as well as that, you’ve been given the opportunity to lead a project
and really extend yourself. If you can do this one well, you’ll be running up
the corporate ladder, not climbing it!”
