A Recap of
Episodes 6-10
After killing his brother
,
Frano
focuses on training Camila and Rita as
slaves. He soon discovers that
Rita
is Sophia Salvi—a lover he previously thought was
dead. He moves her into his bedroom, the two growing closer by the
day.
When
Matteo
fails to assassinate Frano, he sets his
sights on kidnapping Thierry through the Landi sisters.
After having sex
with one of the sisters, he unexpectedly witnesses Jagger passing
out from drugs. He hands Jagger over to his own sister so he can
attend the party to capture Thierry. The next day,
the
Padre
attacks and rapes
him.
Teodora
returns to her house with a
drugged-out
Jagger
. The following morning, he confuses a dream with reality
and thinks she has molested him. As a result, he enslaves her,
taking her back home, where he runs into Honey. He rejects his
former slave, leaving
Honey
distraught.
Alessandro
tries to calm Honey down. He ends up having sex
with her, but soon discovers she’s an FBI plant sent in to entrap
the D’Angelos.
Christo
crucifies the Landi sisters, which ignites a mafia
war. Inconsolable, Pedro Landi storms the D’Angelo household,
wanting to execute the Donatelli sisters in retaliation. He kills
Ghita, but Alessandro and Frano manage to save Andriena and
Camila.
Camila
frees her niece from Jagger, but
unwittingly falls into his clutches. After a tussle, a spark is
ignited and they engage in sex. Aware that Frano doesn’t want her,
Camila makes an arrangement where she continues to sleep with
Jagger while Frano keeps Rita. However, she starts plotting a way
to get rid of Rita so she can have both D’Angelo men to
herself.
Seven years ago,
the
Padre
catches
Sophia
spying on Frano
skinny dipping. He tells his twin, which results in Christo
threatening her life if she doesn’t stay away from the D’Angelos.
She ignores his warning and visits
Jagger on his birthday. After she rejects Jagger’s
sexual advances, he breaks down and confesses to her about what
the
Padre
has done
to him. Upset, Sophia runs from his room, ending up in Frano’s bed
instead.

SOPHIA
I jumped into
the front passenger
seat of Frano’s car, excited to be going out with him again. I’d
seen him whenever I could; sneaking out at all hours of the day to
be with him. It had been a week since we’d made love the first
time. It felt as though I was in a dream, a wonderful one I never
wanted to wake up from.
“
You are so beautiful,” he said,
leaning towards me. He cupped my face and kissed me, taking my
breath away. After almost making me pass out from lack of oxygen,
he broke the kiss and placed his forehead against mine, again
murmuring how beautiful I was. I loved him—absolutely and utterly,
the man beyond perfection.
“
I love you too,” he said,
making me realize I’d spoken out loud.
I blushed, still in disbelief
that he did. I could never get enough of him. I just wished we
didn’t have to sneak around to see each other. Unfortunately, we
didn’t have a choice, because no one wanted us together. My parents
had ordered me to stay away from him, my mother in particular, who
seemed to think Frano was the devil incarnate. His father also
didn’t like me, plus he was engaged to Angelica Rosso. Even worse,
I hadn’t technically broken up with Jagger; although I was sure he
realized I didn’t want to see him anymore. Whenever I thought about
Jagger, I felt guilty over what had happened. I hadn’t seen him
since the night he’d told me about the
Padre
. I still couldn’t wrap my head around
what he’d said: that the
Padre
had abused and raped him. I’d asked Frano about
what he thought of the
Padre
, whether he was a trustworthy man, and he said he
was. So, Jagger
must’ve
lied to gain sympathy from me.
Not sure I believed
that,
I
squashed the uneasy feelings down, only wanting to think about
Frano.
“
I want to go somewhere
different today,” he said. “What would you like to do?”
“
We can go for a swim,”
so I can ogle your
body.
“
The lake?”
I shook my head, not wanting to
risk the
Padre
catching us, especially since I knew he went there. The
memory of seeing him spy on Frano skinny dipping returned, again
making me think of what Jagger had said about the man. Yet again, I
squashed my uneasy thoughts down, not willing to ruin my time with
Frano. I would deal with it once I got home; possibly even ring
Jagger to see how he was doing. Regardless of what he’d done to me,
I still cared for him.
“
How about the
river?
” I
asked, forcing Jagger out of my head. “Hardly anyone goes
there.”
“
That’s because it’s not as nice
as the lake.”
“
It’s more private.”
“
True.” He smiled. “And it
has a lot of bushes to ravage you in.”
I giggled.
He grabbed my
shoulders
.
“How about I ravage you here?” He latched onto my neck, kissing it
so hard I was sure he was going to leave a mark.
“
Frano! Someone will see
us!”
He pulled back and glanced out of the
windows. The grassy countryside was empty, except for a couple of
wild goats eating by the abandoned cottage. We’d been secretly
meeting there, so no one would find out about us, plus the cottage
was a good place to make love in.
“
No one’s here,” he
said.
“
Someone could drive
by.”
“
Okay, I’ll take you to the
river,
one-who-should-be-obeyed
.”
Smiling at his words, I clicked on my seat
belt. He started up the engine and pulled out onto the stony road,
making me feel better that we were moving. I was constantly
paranoid we’d get caught, because now that I had Frano, there was
no way I was willing to give him up. Again, it was like I was in
the best dream ever, constantly floating on cloud nine, where the
only angel I saw was Frano D’Angelo.
Until he
started talking about his
fiancée.
I
hated it when he brought up Angelica,
because it reminded me he wasn’t mine to keep. Although he didn’t
want to marry her, it still made my heart hurt.
“
Angelica visited again today,”
he said. “I can’t stand that woman. She’s always touching me.
And,
Dio
mio
, she has
the whiniest voice.” He glanced at me. “I wish I was marrying you
instead.”
I sat up straight, what he’d said
instantly lifting my spirits. He’d made a similar comment after
we’d made love the first time, but it was in the heat of the
moment, so I wasn’t sure he’d meant it.
“
You want to marry me?” I
asked.
“
S
í
.”
“
Really?”
He nodded
. “But, I can’t.”
“
Why not?”
“
Because the marriage to
Angelica will strengthen my
famiglia
. My father wants to be connected to the Rossos,
so I have to marry one of them.” He turned into the road that led
to the river, both sides lined with tall trees.
“
Why can’t you align with
my
famiglia
instead?” I asked.
“
My father and yours don’t
get along.”
“
Then let’s go to America
and get married.”
He laughed.
“
It’s not funny!” I snapped,
both angry and hurt at his reaction.
He glanced at me, his smile
disappearing. “I thought you were joking.”
“
I wasn’t, and I don’t
appreciate being laughed at,” I said, crossing my arms over my
chest.
A smile split his
face
. “You
look so damn cute when you’re angry.”
I scowled at him. “Don’t try to get on my
good side.”
“
I have to, because you don’t
have a bad side.”
“
Flattery will get you
nowhere.”
He
flicked me another glance, his
expression now somber. “If I could marry you, I would. I wish I had
control of my life. I don’t even like the American course my father
has me enrolled in.” He frowned, then a small smile pulled at the
corner of his lips. “Actually, maybe your idea isn’t so bad, just
without the marriage part. You’re old enough to leave home now, so
we could meet up in America when I head out for my next semester.
We could live together.”
Excitement coursed through
me
.
“Really?”
“
S
í
.”
We emerged from the trees, the river now
coming into view. The water was rough with some calm patches where
large rocks blocked off the flow. Trees and bushes surrounded it,
keeping it a private option.
