“Wait, so I can have children?” Alex said
happily.

“Yes, you can, your body has changed to allow
the fertility of our Meridian women, I have to warn you though, our
women were fertile, you could be pregnant soon,” Sage said with a
wink and a smile when she turned to her mates with a shocked look
on her face. Xander puffed up and then nodded to Sage.

“Continue,” Xander said.

“Right, so regular women’s DNA, we know we
could not impregnate them because they would die in childbirth
along with the babe. Meridian males are not capable to produce
children with any other female species other than a Meridian. Any
other species female would die, along with the child. Whereas,
Meridian women, they are able to carry a human’s child, or a
Hopis’s child, although, they would die in childbirth, I believe
it’s because the women are giving half of the Meridian DNA, in
order to save the children. Their bodies do it instinctively. Now
Sam and Gabby, you both have part Hopis and part Meridian, you will
change to full Meridian, unless you deny the mating. However, if
you do and become involved with someone other than a Meridian and
become pregnant, you will die in childbirth.”

Sam and Gabby gasped and looked at each
other. Alex reached out a hand and grabbed Sam’s hand for comfort.
This was crazy, on the surface they had been a walking talking
time bomb.
She grew silent and thought about her father, her
face began to turn red as she began putting the pieces
together.

“Wait,” Alex stood. “So my father was Hopis,
and so he would have known all of this, because of my mother. He
wanted me to marry James…”

“Umm, his family is also Hopis related,” Cash
said, slowly.

“That asshole was going to kill me,” Alex
yelled. Her mates stood to comfort her as she raged at the
implications. When they finally calmed her down, they placed her in
the middle of them at the table so they could continue to comfort
her.

“Sorry, Alex,” Sage said and then continued.
“So we can assume that somehow the Hopis captured some of our
females and used them for breeding.”

Casius growled and stood. “How are we going
to find out if some of our females are still alive? They could be
mates to some of our men. We have been lucky enough to find
ours.”

“Well shit, you
can
form a sentence,”
Gabby snorted.

Casius growled at her and then continued. “As
I was saying, since our women are obviously descendants of our
Meridian women, there have to either be more with half-blood, or
they still have some of our females. Either way, we need to get on
with finding all of the people who could carry Meridian blood, they
are in danger.”

Xander nodded, “Cash, Rosul, we need a
printout of the families and their children.”

“Wait, I have a bit more. Sam and Gabby, you
will have to make a decision soon either way. From what I can tell,
you both will begin to get sick from your body wanting to shift and
change since you are so close to our source. It is tied to our
lifeline, and since you are near, it is trying to help you. So you
have to either mate, or leave,” Sage said and all of the men jumped
up.

“No,” Cash said and Sam looked at her
twin.

Alex stepped up and said, “Okay, we need to
talk, girl talk, so give us a few minutes here guys.”

***

Alex led the women back to the front room
where there was comfortable furniture already in place. “Okay,
ladies, it is time to make a decision. As you know, I have already
mated so I will be staying. I feel a connection with this place and
these men. I can’t explain it, although we have talked about it. It
is as if I am home for the first time in a long time.”

Sam and Gabby looked at each other and
nodded. “Yeah, so do we, I just am trying to figure out this whole
mating thing. I mean, how could they possibly know I am the one
they want to spend the next three hundred years with. Hell, I am
bitchy on a good day. What if they get sick of me?” Sam asked.

“Shit, at least yours talks to you, mine is
like pissed off at me when I open my mouth, I don’t know about the
mating, but yeah, I want to stay,” Gabby said.

“Can we at least take our time, I mean, Cash
and Rosul are great, I don’t know yet if I love them or not, we
have all been busy tracking down information. We are discovering
more about our parents than we have ever before. Although, I’m not
liking what I’m hearing about our father. He had to be Hopis, and
he knowingly got our mother pregnant to kill her,” Sam said.

“This is fucked up, all we wanted was our
family history,” Gabby stormed. “Now we find out our father is a
murdering bastard and our mother a captive alien from another
planet. Wow, talk about a freaking mess.”

Alex sighed, “I get it, but there are others
out there that may need our help. I can’t allow anyone else to die
for my father’s weird and twisted plans. I know he is at the head
of all this. All my life he has tried to make money, connections,
and all of it had to be for a purpose that I didn’t know. He has
plans, that is…who he is, and so we have to find out what the plans
are.”

Gabby nodded, “Are the guys going to let us
help?”

“Well, Cash and Rosul have already let me
help them on the computer,” Sam said, hopefully.

“We will make this work, I promise. If they
say no, we will go around them,” Alex smiled and then stood. “Let’s
go back and hear the rest of this mess, and tell the men they need
to get a lot more wine.”

The women walked into the room and there was
silence, either they had been talking about something they didn’t
want them to hear, or they were waiting for them to return.

Casius glared at them and said, “So are you
leaving?”

Gabby stomped her foot, walked up to the
large man, and stood nose to nose with him and said, “Don’t put
words into my mouth. We are staying you big asshole, so there. My
sole purpose in life is to make yours miserable, so suck it
up.”

Casius grinned, grabbed Gabby, and pulled her
into a kiss. Everyone stared, shocked at the man who rarely showed
emotion. When he released her, Gabby had a stunned look on her face
and she was panting.

“Well that answered that question.” Xander
laughed.

“Okay, so we have a drop coming this evening.
Casius and his men are going to get the supplies, I ordered more
computers and routers, we should be able to set up a network they
can’t trace as quickly, and then we will be able to search for a
longer period of time,” Rosul said and they all nodded.

“We make the announcement, that we are still
on blackout, and we make a plan and then stick with it,” Xander
said. “We will meet in the morning after the shipment.”

“There had better be a lot of wine,” Gabby
grumbled and glared at Casius who was smiling. She shook her head
and looked at her friends. Alex could see the kiss had affected
Gabby, she and Casius only had to find their other mate.

Epilogue

William Bernard V stood at the helm of his
large ship. He brought his children just as his father had brought
him when the time had come for him to retire. Unfortunately, his
children would have a larger problem than he did—due to the fact
that his father was a selfish bastard.

William had three children, a set of twins,
Macon and Makenzie, and his youngest William VI. They would take
over the secret his family held and the burden they bore. He was
almost to the place where they would drop the supplies over the
edge of the ship for the Meridian.

“Hey, kids, can we talk for a few minutes?”
Senior said and waited while his children good-naturedly complained
about having to come out here with him so late.

“Dad, what’s up? I mean, you would never have
brought us out here for no reason,” William asked.

“You are right. First let me say, I love you
all, I am so sorry I have kept a secret from you for so long, but
you will understand when I tell you,” he said, eyeing each a his
children.

“Dad, are you okay?” Makenzie asked.

“Depends. I have a pirate story to tell you,”
Senior said.

The three of them groaned until William
began, and then they listened intently. He laid out what his
ancestors did and promised, when he got to his father, William
hesitated.

“My father was a selfish bastard. The three
of you know I never had a good relationship with him. When I
decided it was time to pass on the family secret and have you three
take over the business, I had to tell you. So I gathered the papers
and inside I found this,” William said and held up a packet.

“Hang on dad. You are telling me, our family
has been protectors of an alien race for decades, and we are
supposed to not call the mental hospital and check you in?” Macon
said firmly.

William snorted. “I know you are having a
hard time with this, which is why I brought you out here. You will
see. First, let me say I have unfortunately left you with the task
of making sure that we continue to protect them, my father was
going to sell them out. All for the price of my mother. It
disgusted me to find out that he was given a woman. The only thing
I can say is he apparently loved her for a time, before she died
giving birth to me. He didn’t know she was going to die and when
she did, he refused to help them any further. We have to make sure
the people my father made the deal with never find the coordinates
we have. Each time we come out here, we are taking a chance. We
have to be more diligent.”

“Dad, I have to agree with Macon,” Makenzie
said. “What are you saying about grandfather. Who was our
grandmother? Who was grandfather going to help?”

“She was a captive from the Meridian planet.
We are descendants of the Meridian as well.” William dropped the
bomb and they all stood stunned. “We can talk more after the drop,
it is almost time.”

He led his children out to the deck of the
boat, there were three large pallets waiting to be dropped. When
they reached the place, he asked them to help him.

“Dad, do they know our grandfather betrayed
them?” William yelled as they got the pallets ready.

“We will talk more in a while,” Senior said
and nodded to them to drop the first pallet.

All of the children watched and waited. When
they saw the first man appear out of nowhere and wave, they sucked
in a deep breath, then when they saw him dive back under the water
and a large tail flapped the water’s surface, Makenzie fainted.

***

Casius floated at the edge of the ship and
heard what the young man yelled. Anger pulsed through him as he
thought about Bernard’s family betraying them. He needed to get his
men home with the packages and make sure they had not been
followed.
