Chapter 1
Lucy and Micah
Lucy had found her mate two days ago and she was planning on asking Zoe and Kaiden if she could move out of the house and into a place with Micah. She was also planning on asking if little Damien could move in with them. She had become extremely attached to the little guy. Damien was one of the toddlers brought in on the boat and Lucy was instantly in love with him. Lucy had taken Damien and a baby into her room that first night. The baby she had swapped back and forth with the other girls, but little Damien was always with her.
Mary had made some bread from the vegetables in her own garden and asked Lucy if she could take the loaves to Grace, the older woman who lived at the edge of the border. Lucy took that as an opportunity to take Damien for a walk and maybe Micah might come with them. Lucy knew her little man was full of energy and needed to get some of it out of him. A long walk would be very good for him.
Lucy grabbed the basket and made sure little Damien was all ready to go. They went out the back door and down to the barracks first to see if Micah could get away. They had all just finished dinner so he should be available to go. She found him near the entrance to the gym area.
“Hey Honey, would you like to join us for a walk to Grace’s house?” Lucy asked him
“Trying to tire the little guy out are you?” Micah teased. He had also become very infatuated with the little guy.
“Yes I am, he fights me every night so I figured a long walk will do him good.” Lucy replied
“I would love to spend some time with the both of you.” Micah replied. He grabbed little Damien and threw him on his shoulders. “I will let him walk as soon as we pass the playground. All the kids are playing right now while the little ones are inside getting their baths.”
“Sounds good, I know I would never be able to get him off of the swings and then I definitely do not want to deal with a fit.” Lucy laughed. She grabbed Micah’s hand and they headed in the direction of Grace’s house.
They pass the new playground area and saw all the older kids playing and having a blast. Damien squirms on Micah’s shoulders, so Lucy quickly promises him that he will be able to play on their way back. As long as he is a good boy right now and sits tight.
As soon as the playground is out of sight and Damien is distracted with the butterflies, Micah sets him down. They let Damien run all around them as they slowly walk to the house. Grace knows they are coming and should have some recipe cards for Lucy to take back to Mary. Lucy and Micah talk as they walk slowly and watch Damien at the same time. They talk about all the things that they want to do and how many children they might want to have.
As they near the house Lucy breaks off and meets up with Grace at the back door. They exchange the bread for the cards and watch Micah with Damien for a bit. Micah is chasing Damien all around the field pretending to be a monster. Damien is squealing and running away in complete happiness. Lucy and Grace hug and say their goodbyes.
Lucy runs up to Damien and scoops him up into her arms.
“Hey little man you want to go play on the swings now?” Lucy asks
“Yep yep yep!” Damien squeals
Lucy sets him down and he takes off in the direction of the playground. Micah laughs and they are soon walking very fast to keep up with the little guy. Lucy has never been happier and feels that her life is finally coming together. Her life in the house has been wonderful and since Kaiden has come home it has been even better. She and Micah always had a crush on each other and they finally acted once they were both turned and the strong Pull was there. He was quite older than her, but age didn’t matter anymore.
As they crested the small hill the playground came in to view and little Damien took off towards it. Some of the older kids were still there and others were running from the house back to the playground. Lucy could see some of the mothers from town gathering their children up to take them home. Lucy and Micah slowed their walk as Damien met up with all the children. The kids from the house were all there now and all having a good time.
Lucy and Micah sat on a little hill and watched the children play. After a few minutes movement off to their left caught both their attention. Men and women were rushing towards the playground at full speed. Lucy looked back to the children and then the missile in the sky caught her eyes and she took off to grab Damien. Micah was quick on her heals.
The missile was getting closer and closer and Lucy felt like she wasn’t running fast enough to get there. She had just grabbed Damien when Micah grabbed her and the world went black. When she opened her eyes again she was surrounded by other Dragon’s and was looking down on the huge crater where the playground once was.
Jaco burst through the doors completely naked. “GET DOWN! He sent the missiles and one is headed straight for the….” He yelled out right before a loud explosion sounded and the concussion threw them all backwards and down, the windows shattering down around them. Once they were all able to get up the reality of what happened hit them all hard. Vivi got up and ran to the window to look out. What she saw was a huge crater in the ground where the playground was just built, where all the older children were playing. They had sent them all back out after being checked. Vivi’s heart broke at the sight.
“NOOOOOO!” Vivi screamed
Vivi crumpled to the floor hugging her chest and crying.
“BEN!” Monica screamed
“Oh my God, Abby! They were out there too!” Piper sobbed
Zoe didn’t hesitate, she grabbed Monica and Piper’s hands then ran out the door. She shifted while still holding them and their hands were grasped in her claws once she was Dragon. Zoe took off into the air carrying them to where the playground just was. They landed hard, Monica and Piper both looking all around with worry and fear on their faces. There was screaming and crying all around and through the chaos Zoe spotted the puppies running. Ben and Abby’s heads then showed over the hill and Monica and Piper both ran towards them. Zoe stayed where she was shocked at what had just taken place. Her Dragon let out a loud wailing roar.
Zach landed next to her with Alexi and Gosha in his front claws. He let them go as soon as his back feet hit the ground. There were wounded and Alexi and Gosha needed to get to them. Alexi and Gosha both ran to the wounded and called for any other Blood Dragon to help. There was only one Blood Dragon that was turned from the half-bloods and her name was Bronwyn. Vivi and Christian were the next to arrive and Christian went to help, but Vivi just stood there with tears flowing from her face. Heartache was written all over her face, her body was trembling all over.
Kaiden arrived, he had also shifted and his Dragon leaned into Zoe and whined a little. He wanted to hold her and comfort her.
Angel we need to be human for this, please shift back
I can’t Kaiden. She is demanding she is here for this. I just don’t know why.
Alright I will stay with you then
Thank you
Sis, uh why can’t I change back?
Zach asked Zoe through their mind link.
Our Dragons must be needed for this.
Zoe replied
Ok then, I will listen
You can talk to Halina right?
Yes
I think we are going to need her here too, in Dragon form
She stayed with the babies
Get her Zach!
Zoe Demanded
Ok
Butterfly, we need you down here and you need to be in Dragon form
On my way already, I can hear Zoe when you two are near each other in Dragon form.
Halina responded
While they waited for Halina they all stood and watched the crowd. Zoe searched for her magic, trying to locate all her Dragons. Raquel and Megan were with Vivi now. All three were heartbroken and afraid. There were four wounded men who had apparently been thrown back from the blast and some had severe burns.
Kaiden how many did we lose?
Zoe asked
Angel I am not sure, we lost the fifteen older kids and I don’t feel about twenty others. Hopefully I am wrong.
We need to have someone put the fire out. There is ash and flowers all over the crater, but I can’t count how many.
Zoe saw Carmine rushing down the hill, his hands outstretched and the fire dying down. Everyone that was in the house was now following Carmine down the hill. The half-bloods that lived in the homes were all around and holding their children tightly to them. Some of the kids had small cuts and burns, but otherwise looked ok. They must have gotten away right as the blast hit. The four Pearls stood and just watched what was happening. Charles was out taking a headcount and taking note of anyone who was wounded. It seemed he was directing all of the wounded to the area where Gosha and Alexi were. Others were hugging and crying one another. Smoke billowed around them and you could smell the fear inside of everyone.
As soon as Halina landed next to Zach she leaned into him. All four of them touched then, Zach and Zoe instantly closed their eyes. A rumbling came from deep in their chests and then they were both blowing a pearly color smoke over everyone. Heads snapped up in their direction. Tears didn’t stop, but the feel of fear did. They were no longer afraid and seemed to be determined now.
Zoe was the first to shift back, Zach right behind her. She stood there facing her Dragons, naked as the day she was born. Mary rushed over handing her a robe and then one to Zach. Kaiden and Halina shifted back and were handed robes as well.
“Tonight while I was giving Lily a massage I noticed something was inside her foot. I took her to Gosha and Vivi and they got it out. I then took it to Jaco and a few minutes later I learned that it was a tracking device. The kind with GPS, it was also the kind that was tied to a sister chip, which obviously was in a missile. Aldrich had implanted these devices in his smaller children. We thought we had them all out. Jaco took the ones we found and took them far out to sea. We missed one and that is why we are all standing here now. I am so sorry. I can only guess that he still cannot find us here, otherwise we would be surrounded outside the border. But the missiles are an object and not a person. I am so sorry I have failed you and that we lost our family members today.” Zoe cried placing her head in her hands and letting out a sob.
“Zoe this is not your fault. This is the work of Aldrich. He used us, he just murdered his own blood, and he is going to pay for this. You will not take blame for something that monster did. This is not your fault. If anyone is to blame it is me. I begged you to take them all in and you did. You are the best people I have ever met and I take full responsibility for this.” Vivi asserted
“No one is to blame for this but Aldrich and I will not have either of you trying to take blame. We are going to honor our family and have a funeral pyre for the ones we lost. We are going to remember them. We are going to take some time to grieve and then we are going to get back to training. Now more than ever we need to stop him. Earth Dragons, will you please go to the forest and gather trees for the pyre right over the crater, Fire Dragons if you will light the fire when we are all ready. We will all say some words and grieve this tragic lose. We will then take our grief and fight back.” Kaiden said
Kaiden turned and hugged his Angel to him as she sobbed her grief into his shoulder. Zach and Halina wrapped their arms around the couple trying to give Zoe strength.
The Earth Dragons ran to the forest to gather trees. Alexi and Gosha had finished healing the wounded and now those men stood proud and determined. Vivi had gathered her strength and went over to the group that had formed with smaller wounds. Vivi and Christian were healing those as Alexi and Gosha had used up a lot of their strength healing the others.
Paulo came running up to Kaiden as him and Zoe were walking to the wounded. “Kaiden there is a Blood Dragon couple in the woods that would like to speak to you. They say they are wanderers and have seen the website.” Paulo says
“Alright take me to them.” Kaiden responded
Kaiden and Zoe both follow Paulo along with Tia and John. When they made it to the forest and saw the couple. Zoe sucks in a breath. The woman looks like Vivi.
