“I’m so glad for you, sweetheart. If you
could get a person of responsibility, it will make things much easier for you.”
“There’s just one thing,” said Lily in a
sexy voice. “Uh oh,” sighed Andre. “What is it?”
“Well, only Elena can work and they are
living in one room of Rita’s sister’s house with all her family. I know you are
so generous with helping people out, I wonder if they could move into that
vacant apartment your father doesn’t need now that he’s moving into his own
apartment.. She would be close to work and have privacy to live on their own.”
“Lily, love, you fall for every person
who pulls your heart strings. If I say yes to this request, will you please not
bring in any more needy people who can’t pay rent?”
Lily threw her arms around his neck and
asked, “Is that a yes?”
“You know it is.” He kissed her and
said, “You knew I would say
yes
just as you know I can’t say
no
to you.” “Thank you, sweet husband. You get back rubs for a week,” Lily
promised. “I need to go tell them. Be right back.”
Molly and Andrew both had been listening
to this exchange and burst out laughing. “We knew how this was going to end.”
“Does she know how much the rent on
these apartments is?” asked Andrew. “No. But it doesn’t matter because she is
correct that it would be helpful if Elena lives close and she and her mother
seem to be in dire financial need. If this girl works out, it will be a
tremendous help to Lily. She has been successful beyond her ability to keep up
with the demand and she really needs dependable help.”
Suddenly Tony approached their table and
kissed Molly on the cheek. “I thought I saw you over her in your signature red
dress. Let’s dance, shall we?”
“I’d love to but let’s not show them up,”
smiled Molly.
They started dancing a slow waltz tune
which allowed Molly to add her special turns and twists with her red skirt
flaring out. Next was a fast number and they decided to dance one more. Once
they started dancing, the other dancers had moved out of the way to watch them.
Tony kept the special moves to a minimum but did lift Molly over his head with
a slow slide down. The applause was loud and enthusiastic.
When Tony returned Molly to her table,
he said, “Dinner Wednesday?” “Yes, I’ll look forward to it,” replied Molly.
On the ride home Andrew was very quiet
while Molly and Lily were excited about meeting Rita and Elena and hopeful that
Elena helping sew would increase the rate of production.
When they got home, Andrew offered to
walk Molly to her door. Andre and Lily went on upstairs to their apartment.
At her door, Andrew told Molly he was
flying to Chicago tomorrow and didn’t know how long he would be gone because he
had a lot of business to take care of. He kissed her hand and thanked her for
the pleasant night out. He walked back to the elevator leaving her surprised at
his cool manner.
Lily and Andre entered their apartment
and immediately embraced. “Let’s watch the stars for a while,” Andre suggested.
Lily agreed and they changed clothes and put on their robes. He sat in a
lounger and pulled her into his lap with her head on his shoulder. They watched
the star studded sky for a while, and then she felt his hand sliding inside her
robe. She giggled, “Your hand is cold.”
“It’ll get warm.”
She lifted her face and he kissed her. “I
love you so much. I absolutely adore you.” “I love you, too,” she responded. “You
have made my life complete.”
