With one hand braced on the tile, Dan took his shaft in hand and stroked from base to tip. His thoughts were all on the woman on the other side of the wall. In his mind, her dark hair splayed over the white pillowcase. She licked her lips and raised her arms to him. He stretched over her and took her mouth.

Cum pearled at the top of his crown. He spread it around and over his cock, all the time imagining what it would have been like to slide into Mary’s pussy. He knew she creamed with barely a touch, thick, fragrant stuff that would have coated his cock the way it had covered his tongue.

His hand stroked faster, to the base and up to the crown, squeezing lightly, the way he thought her pussy would grip and loosen. God, he wanted her so bad it hurt.

His breathing quickened, matching the pace of his hand, pumping now like a piston. His balls tightened and drew up. In his mind’s eye, he saw Mary close her eyes. She met him thrust for thrust. The only sound in the room was the slap of their bodies coming together and her moans of desire. She came, and screamed his name. Her pussy closed around him, caressing his cock until he had no choice but to let go.

Streams of cum hit the back of the shower wall, but in Dan’s imagination, he filled Mary Franks with everything he had. In his shower-dream, he hadn’t used a condom. He never did in his imaginings. But usually he dismissed his dreams as soon as they ended. This time he wondered what it would be like to fuck Mary bareback. To feel her skin grip his, to know his seed became part of her body.

He thought about after the sex. What would it be like to lie and hold her until her breathing returned to normal and the loving glow faded from her skin? To talk softly into the night about everything and nothing, and then love again and again, until peach tints lightened the eastern sky.

“Stop it,” he ordered himself. But he knew he wouldn’t be able to put thoughts of Mary aside, not for that night, or for many others. And that worried him because his being with her was the worst thing for her. He also knew if he stayed there, one wall wouldn’t be enough to keep him away.

Chapter 3

“Good morning, sleepyhead.”

Dan looked up into Mary’s face. Her hair tangled over her shoulders. He reached out to brush a strand off her face then leaned up for a kiss. What he’d intended as gentle turned hot as soon as she ran her fingers through his hair and rubbed her sweet tits against his chest. Being with her was a mistake and he knew that in the depths of his conscience. But he was no saint, and somehow during the night she’d found her way into his bed. He wrinkled his brow. Or was this her bed? She touched his cock with hesitant fingers and he didn’t care where they were. They were together, and naked, and more than touching was fair game.

With a start of surprise, he realized her tongue was pressing into his mouth. The shy girl he’d known in high school could be a little vixen. He couldn’t be happier.

Her touch on his dick became stronger, more confident. He arched into her hand, sucked her tongue further into his mouth, kneaded her tit. This wasn’t something he’d ever imagined doing with the Mary of years ago, but now nothing seemed more important than burying himself deep in her body. He wanted to feel her legs wrapped around his waist and hear her moan his name as he pounded into her.

“Mary.” He ground out her name in need that bordered on pain. Suddenly she wasn’t kissing him—not on the lips, at least. “Oh, baby, yes,” he whispered, flexing his hips and pushing his dick into her mouth. She deep-throated him. He gasped for breath. Her tongue scraped along his length, swirling over the crown and teasing the slit where he was ready to erupt. Then she took him again, all the way. His balls tightened and drew up in seconds.

Her hot, wet mouth sent him over the edge. He came fast and hard, and then harder yet when he realized she swallowed his cum. His mind blanked, giving over to his body and the incredible sensations flooding him.

“Honey, you were wonderful,” he said when he finally came up for air. He reached to stroke her hair and found…nothing. His eyes flew open to discover he was alone in bed, though the sticky residue coating his leg and stomach were testament to the fact he’d come. Just by his own hand.

“God damn it.” How long had it been since he’d had such a realistic wet dream? Memories of his teen years flashed back. Mornings when he’d woken alone, dick in hand, and wishing some
hottie
was there with him. Not being a “
hottie
,” Mary Franks had never been part of those adolescent wishes. Now he couldn’t picture any woman’s face but hers. Because of the dream, or because she’d stirred something in him last night, something protective and warm, that put her in a class separate from other women? A warning rang in his head to beware of women who would distract him from work or who might have marriage on the brain. But instead of a klaxon, the noise was the level of church bells. Not unpleasant at all.

Dream or not, Dan knew he’d never felt anything with another woman that he had when Mary kissed him, never. The sweetness he’d known in her was still present, he’d seen that well enough last night when they had dinner. He’d glimpsed her passionate side, and now wondered if it was anything as strong as his imaginings.

A tap sounded at the connecting door. “
Da-yan
?” Barely more than a murmur, Mary’s voice floated through the door. He liked hearing the way she said his name, softly, with a hint of Southern drawl that turned it into two syllables. “Are you awake?”

“Yeah, give me a few minutes.” Dan stretched, then threw off the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed. After a quick shower, he dressed in slacks and a sports jacket and opened the door between his room and Mary’s suite.

“Good morning, sleepyhead,” she said with a shy smile when she saw him.

Déjà vu.
Her words made him hard. Sticking his hands in his pockets, he leaned against the doorframe. “Hey. Did you sleep well?”

“Not really,” she admitted. “But I didn’t expect to.” She blushed and glanced down.

There were a number of reasons why she might have thought she wouldn’t sleep well, the foremost being the fact she was on her honeymoon alone. But a part of Dan hoped his being on the other side of the wall might have been a contributing factor.

“You can’t tell,” he said. “I mean, you look beautiful. No dark circles under the eyes or anything.”

She took a deep breath and let it out all at once. “Good. That’s one less thing to worry about. How about you? How did you sleep?”

“Like a baby.” He glanced at his watch. “Jeez, it’s late. I’m afraid I have to be over at the MGM in a couple of hours. But there’s still time for lunch. Want to join me?”

She worried her bottom lip. He watched, his hard-on unrelenting. After last night’s kisses he knew how soft her lips were. His dream reminded him of what they could do besides caress his own lips. He almost groaned.

This is Mary.
He needed to keep reminding himself that she was in a very vulnerable position right now. He was destined to be her friend, not her lover. And as for the memory of her lips, tongue and mouth taking him to heaven, she wasn’t responsible for his pornographic imagination.

“I’d love to have lunch with you.”

“Absolutely.” He straightened up and turned for the door.

“Dan, there’s one more thing.” He faced her, waiting. “About last night. I-I don’t know what got into me, and I apologize if I made you uncomfortable.”

She looked up with such confusion in her eyes, it pained him. He ran the back of his finger down her cheek. “I should apologize to you. You needed a friend and I forgot that for a minute. Forgive me?”

An emotion he couldn’t identify flitted across her face. Then she smiled. “Now we’ve both said we’re sorry, we can face looking at each other across the lunch table.”

“I can’t think of a better way to spend time than looking at you across a table.” Mary laughed, but Dan’s stomach did a flip at how much he meant the words.

You’re not the marrying kind, and Mary obviously is. Keep your distance.
Trouble was, having tasted her kisses and—almost—experiencing what her body could do to his, distance was the last thing he wanted to keep.

After lunch at the Pirate Cove restaurant, Dan and Mary walked along the Grand Canal at the Venetian. Dan halted in front of a store display window. “You’d look great in that dress.”

Mary giggled. “Me?” The striking, black dress was ankle length with a slit up the front. The top covered the breasts of the mannequin, but only barely. A column of sparkling gems connected the mere inches of fabric between thigh and waist. “Those look like real diamonds.”

“They do, but I bet they aren’t. Let’s go in and see.”

“Oh, Dan, I don’t think so. First of all, I’m sure I can’t afford it, and second, I don’t have anywhere to wear it. As if I could wear anything like that in public, to begin with.” She raised her brows and shook her head, but in the back of her mind, she pictured herself in it, walking into a room in heels and simple jewelry.

Ralph stood across the ballroom. Even at a distance she saw interest flare in his eyes. Then he walked closer, looking more like a lion stalking his mate than a man coming to ask her to dance. The intensity of his gaze strengthened with each step, broadcasting the knowledge that he intended more than a mere twirl around the dance floor. The surety of passion to come had her sucking in a sharp breath. Anticipation surged through her. Ralph had never made her feel this way before. The scent of desire surrounded her. He finally stood before her. She looked up, but not into Ralph’s dark chocolate eyes. These eyes were blue as the sea. They belonged to—

Dan gently tugged her into the shop. “You aren’t getting out of your promise to come with me to the cocktail party, Mary. And I can afford the dress. Since you’re doing me a favor, this is my treat.”

Before she could protest further, a nicely dressed, middle-aged woman approached.

“May I help you?”

“Yes…Betty.” Dan must have seen the woman’s nametag. “How are you?”

She smiled. “Very well, thank you. May I show you something?”

Mary hung back, saying nothing. Suddenly, the shopping trip dimmed the brightness in the day. This reminded her of too many occasions with Ralph, of having decisions made for her. She hadn’t realized how much she resented his forcing his tastes and desires on her, but the contrast to Dan—at least Dan had asked before he’d dragged her into the store to buy a dress she didn’t want—had shown her how much of her true feelings she’d put aside to please the man she’d planned to marry. She shuddered at the thought of a whole lifetime of pushing her thoughts and wishes away in order to make Ralph happy.

“We’re interested in the black dress in the window.” Dan winked at Mary. “As long as those aren’t real diamonds.”

“No sir, but they’re the finest reproductions.” Betty inclined her head and folded her hands. “We can custom order a dress made with real diamonds if you’d like.” Without asking anything further, Betty said, “Miss, please follow me.”

“Go ahead,” Dan coaxed. “I’ll wait here.”

“There is a seating area with coffee off to the right, sir. That is where we will come for your approval.”

Dan’s
approval
? Of course, he was buying the dress for the evening. Mary followed Betty into the dressing room area.

“Go ahead and take off everything but your panties and I’ll be right back,” Betty directed.

Betty seemed like a nice enough lady, and there was really no harm in trying on the dress. She’d never had anything so elegant. Or expensive. Or sexy, in a sophisticated way. Ralph’s idea of sexy had been a wet tee-shirt, or tight leather skirt, which he’d once bought her. To keep the peace, she’d occasionally dressed alluringly for Ralph, but it had always bothered her, wearing clothes that didn’t suit her personality simply because he liked them. And she’d done other things just for him, too.

Why then, had he slept with other women? As angry and hurt as Mary was, she wished she’d stuck around long enough to ask him what he wanted that she hadn’t provided.

God, she’d loved him. Past tense, right? She could never go back to things as they’d been. For now, Dan was being nice to her—rescuing her, in fact, as he had in high school when he’d taken her to the senior prom. But what about when she ended these few days in Vegas and went home? When she was alone again, would she crawl back to Ralph? Maybe his imperfect affection was better than none at all.

She shook off her thoughts when Betty reappeared, carrying the black dress Dan had spotted in the window. Betty took charge, sliding the dress over Mary’s shoulders and arranging it over her breasts to cover the nipples. She zipped up the back and stood to the side. Mary looked in the mirror and gaped.

The garment showed every curve of her five-foot-eight athletic body she had worked hard to stay in shape. Black georgette and silk fell from an inch-wide band across her shoulders to a deep
vee
at her cleavage. There the column of gems began. A light gray mesh studded with the crystals drew the material together for the few inches to reach just below her crotch. There, the fabric fell as a soft skirt, but split all the way to the floor. Mary moved her leg forward. The material fell gracefully to the side, revealing more skin than she liked.

Still, she looked…well, good. Really good, she had to admit. Sexy, even before she arranged her hair or added high heels. She walked toward the mirror and examined herself as Dan would see her. Peach tinged her cheeks. Then she envisioned others, men who didn’t know Dan escorted her, and the impression they’d have of her if she appeared like this. “This won’t do, I’m afraid.”

“I agree. But we can fix those panty lines.” Betty slipped away, returning a minute later with black G-string panties.

She studied Mary with a critical eye. “With these, there would be no lines to disrupt the flow. You look stunning.”

“Thank you, but what I meant was, I can’t wear
this
. I’m practically naked.”
